We discovered Blakewell Fisheries at the North Devon Show this year and bought their hot smoked trout which was delicious and so decided to try and find them. A very fun little lake, well stocked with rainbows of fairly decent size. There is enough here to test your casting and placement for a half day at least. A couple of hours spent with a very happy child, caught three lovely trout for tea, my son had a fabulous time living his dream catching fish and bringing home food for the family. Stayed for some lunch which was also fantastic. The whole experience was aided by very helpful friendly staff. A day for the memory book for my boy. He caught the fishing bug, hook, line and sinker. My in laws brought my husband, my children and I to Blakewell Fisheries so our children could have their first experience of fishing. They enjoyed the excitement of catching a fish, and were pretty proud of themselves for having caught their own evening meal, (which they helped prepare for cooking!). Not a morsel was wasted! Visited today(4/7/19) ... very nice picturesque fishery, was concerned that the hot sunny weather may make the fishing tricky but managed a 5 fish limit none the less. Rainbows were all fully finned and in tip top condition and the ones I caught around the 2-2 1/2 lb mark (with a damsel nymph imitation fished slowly just under the surface for those interested). The girls in the shop were all very polite and helpful as was John, the fishery man who helpfully gutted my catch and bagged it up for me. The cream tea the wife and myself had after fishing was also very good. A very enjoyable morning recommended to any visiting fly anglers or worth a look around the fish farm part if you fancy something a little different for the family to do. More...
