The first station, originally named Barking Road, was opened on 14 June 1847 by the Eastern Counties And Thames Junction Railway on the south side of Barking Road in the Parish Of West Ham. It was renamed Canning Town on 1 July 1873, and in 1888, this station was closed, being replaced by a new station on the north side of Barking Road (near Stephenson Street). The booking hall was replaced in the 1960s, and survived until 28 May 1994. The station was served by trains on the North London line to North Woolwich. Jubilee Line Extension and Docklands Light Railway In the late 1980s, plans for the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) extension to Beckton considered various options - either running directly east/west between Blackwall and Royal Victoria, or following the River Lea to call at Canning Town. In the early 1990s, the planned Jubilee Line Extension station on the site meant that the dedicated DLR station was not built, with a combined interchange station to be built instead. The DLR extension to Beckton began running through the future station site in March 1994. The new station was built on the south side of the A13, designed by Troughton McAslan. The tiered design of the station placed the DLR platforms directly above the Jubilee line platforms allowing for easy interchange. A substantial bus station was also built as part of the station complex. On 29 October 1995, the first part of the new station opened, serving the North London Line. The DLR platforms opened on 5 March 1998. With the opening of the Jubilee line platforms on 14 May 1999, the new station complex was complete and officially 'opened'. The DLR branch to London City Airport opened on 2 December 2005. This branch diverges from the branch to Beckton 0.25 miles (0.40 km) south of the interchange, with trains from both branches serving the current platforms. More...

Cavernous and spacious accommodating high density commuter traffic efficiently and effortlessly with step-free access. Naked concrete, steel and exposed intestinal piping - all shades of post -industrial grey here. Confident, purposed and anonymous.

Almost like a junction which connects lot of places with Jubilee and DLR. Can be a bit confusing for first timers. please note DLR is on the ground floor, 1st floor is Jubilee and top floor is again DLR(Bank/Tower Gateway and woolwich)

Just asked for Directions as I am not from London. The one that was standing with his hands in his pockets needs to work on his customers services. Sounded like I bothered him. Hire better staff. More...

Nice DLR stop. From here you can change to the Jubilee line to get trains to anywhere on the Tube with just 1 transfer. You can also catch DLR trains to Stratford International, Beckton, Woolwich Arsenal and Tower Gateway/Bank. Thus, this station is a great transfer point for people going from the Docklands to Central London. More...

I used to think this place had the best falafel in E13 area. Since the Covid-19, the prices went up so much and also the taste and size got very disappointing. Tonight, I have witnessed the most disgusting behaviour from one of your staff, where this Asian girl was swearing at and bullying this poor Eastern European girl front of the customers and she wouldn't stop, when though, it was embarrassing and downgrading, no one said nothing to her. This behaviour should not be tolerated. Clearly, she had really bad day/night but that doesn't give her the right to behave like an animal. More...

Omg what a confusing station!!! Doesn't help that the posters say platforms 1&2 for Becton and then u spot a rolling sign telling you its actually platforms 3&4 waited 20 mins till I realised I'm on not only the wrong level but also the wrong platform! Can't ask anyone any advice cos there is no one around! Now I know why I don't use the DLR! Rather use underground at least I know what direction I'm going in! More...
