I’ve been going to Ben at Artist studios for 3 years now. Started with the group lessons once a fortnight. I’ve had the occasional 1-1 for extra help here and there too, and I’ve recorded a couple of time as well. I really miss the group if I miss a couple, and return at the next given opportunity! I have attended the group singing lessons twice. Ben's work as a teacher was fantastic. I felt listened , supported and encouraged during the lesson. Also being in a group where everybody is in the same situation made me feel supported, getting feedback from them about my singing lifted my self confidence. It was a very relaxed atmosphere. I've taken part in both the group singing lessons (brilliant value for money) and the individual tutoring. Each time I found Ben to be very encouraging, trying to adapt the learning style to suit my voice. In the individual lessons I tend to bring a song in and we go through it together. There's a good mix of theory and practice, and at the end of the session I usually find that I can sing the most difficult parts of the song that I really struggled with before. Last time we had a lesson I was practicing for an audition and after Ben's lesson I got the part! So it was definitely worth doing. More...

Great singing lesson! In only 30 minutes, Ben helped me to sing the top note in Lately by Stevie Wonder, C#5, which I have never been able to hit before and thought was out of my range. I found Ben when I was looking for a vocal coach to improve my lectures. Only later my girlfriend suggested to take some singing lessons as well. In both areas I am very happy by the progress I have made. The range and level of skills that Ben brings to the task is amazing. Not only is he an excellent singer and teacher.He has a deep understanding of the process by which sound is generated in the throat, and uses understands how it affects speaking and singing. This enables it to make very specific recommendations. His broad expertise enables Ben also to respond quickly to your wishes. In a few minutes he can get into any song that you suggest. When I started I was expecting progress to be slow but the opposite was the case. Within the first hour Ben pointed out several small mistakes I made, and within 1-2 more hours I learned enough to start to avoid them. Ben is a very talented all-round highly skilled musician. He can teach voice in any genre from classical to pop to rock, blues, jazz, and everything in between, he can identify and provide solutions for voice challenges. As a music producer, he provided an arrangement my song from start to finish in two hours! He was very astute to listen to my musical requests of the time offered and provide them to a very high standard. He gives what you request of the lesson, making the end product very worthwhile, whether it is a voice lesson, or a recording or a workshop. Always encouraging, he provides feedback in a skilful way and is nonjudgemental of any errors, moving forward with pace and positivity. This is a mark of a good teacher. This makes you feel comfortable and able to relax. which is essential when working with voice or composition. He is very resourceful and professional with an extremely high level of musicality as a singer and instrumentalist, able to teach diverse facets in voice or instrumental teaching, as well as improvisation, songwriting and composition. Ben was fantastic - he calmly took me through a series of steps to help me write a complete song, undaunted by my lack of ability or experience. As a singing coach, he helped me understand the technical dynamics of my voice and where to improve; with songwriting, Ben was able to take me through the theory and practicalities of writing meaningful lyrics, developing a melody and hooks, and create the building blocks of a song from nothing. He gives both individual and very affordable group lessons. I have been working with Ben Woodward for 4 years now. I originally went to see him for vocal coaching because I wanted to start singing again. He is a fantastic vocal coach who makes singing fun and interesting as well as improving your voice a lot. You come out of lesson with a smile on your face feeling inspired and your confidence raised.I then went to one of Ben's Songwriting workshops. I loved every minute of it and at the end of the session I had a song! We then went on to build the song up in my weekly sessions. From that day I have been songwriting and collaborating with Ben on all my songs. I come up with the lyrics, melody and chorus and Ben plays the piano/guitar/cello around that - he is amazingly quick at picking up what I am wanting from my song and playing the instruments accordingly. I love putting my songs together and get such a buzz from creating something and I couldn't do that without Ben.I now have a CD that is produced and recorded by Ben which is available for sale in Rise Bristol.I would highly recommend Ben for Vocal coaching (excellent teacher), learning songwriting skills and recording your tracks.
