Highly recommend Pawfect Dogsense - we did both the private and group training sessions and I think both were invaluable. In the private sessions we were able to get tailored training for our puppy including loose lead walking, de-sensitisation and the concept of “settle” which has paid dividends as he is so good at not pulling on walks and learning he gets attention / rewarded when he is calm, which was particularly helpful as getting a puppy during lockdown restricted our ability to socialise and have people over etc until he had been with us for about 4 weeks ! The group training was great for training our puppy in a stimulating environment (we have a cocker spaniel who wants to be best friends with everyone!) and getting lots of tips. Really grateful for the hard work the team put in. Training is undoubtedly one of the best investments you can make in your dog to set them up for life! More...

What do you love most about your job?
I love the people I work with as much as I love the dogs I train. I never set my learners up to fail or focus on harsh corrections or punishment because I'm an animal behaviourist and dog behaviour geek that finds all behaviour fascinating. It's not right or wrong in the field of animal behaviour its just functional or non functional and any behaviour can be changed! Every one of my sessions is fun and friendly and focused on building a solid bond of communication between you and your dog. I also love teaching classes, writing and doing talks!
What inspired you to start your own business?
I discovered dogs can smell cancer without training in 2008 and it blew my mind. I realised they needed far more study and respect across the board as many were still being trained with harsh correction particularly to their amazing noses! I set up my first training business in 2010 after having worked in a large UK rescue. I gave that business away in 2020 after training 10,000 dogs in 10 years and set up this business to work with dog clients and bigger businesses after I went on Channel 4's Puppy school and wrote the body language book 'Whats My Dog Thinking'

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
I developed an online learning portal over lockdown to help educate as many people as possible from the safety of their homes. I can also easily keep distance in 121 settings by working outside, in gardens and ensuring hand-washing and hand gel are used at all times. I'm happy to wear a facemask if requested, as long as I'm not in a greater amount of danger from a dog that's scared of facemasks!
