Wills
The vast majority of people put off making a Will for a variety of reasons, either believing that the people they would wish to inherit will automatically do so, or because they don’t think it is relevant to them at this particular time.
The reality is that you can put off making a Will until it is too late and this poses all sorts of problems for the people left behind and could mean that some, or all of your inheritance, either goes to the wrong person or to the state.
Everyone needs to make a Will. In particular, anyone with dependant relatives must do so. Anyone who owns a property or has any type of asset which you would wish relatives, friends or charities to benefit from should also make a Will.
Making a Will enables you to plan exactly what will happen to your property (estate) following your demise. This ensures that those you would like to benefit actually do so, in accordance with your wishes and at the same time avoiding any disputes between relatives.
Lasting Power of Attorneys
Who would you prefer is legally responsible for making decisions for you...a loved one or a stranger?
If you lose the capacity to manage your own affairs (for example from an accident or illness) you may be surprised to learn that the ability to make crucial life decisions are taken away from you and your family.
Instead, it would be a stranger appointed by the Court of Protection that would make decisions on your behalf, not your spouse, partner, children, parents, siblings or other loved ones and if any wanted to act on your behalf, a long, lengthy and expensive application to the Court of Protection would ensue with absolutely no guarantee of a successful outcome.
Trusts
You've worked hard, acquired assets and hopefully continue to do so
Perhaps you own a property or properties? Investments, savings and or personal belongings?
But what about third-party threats and ensuring that everything you acquire during your life is safeguarded for you and your loved ones?
No matter how vast or modest most of us have assets we wish to protect and hopefully pass on to our nearest and dearest.
A trust is a way of getting an asset or assets from one party to another, often with a set of guidelines to the trustees (those who control the trust) on how the assets within the trust should be used and when and how the ultimate beneficiaries receive those assets.
We use trusts to achieve our clients' objectives in many different ways but with the general view of protection of assets earmarked for preferred beneficiaries against some or all of the following threats:
Professional Document Storage
What happens if your Will is: Lost? Damaged? Destroyed? or simply not found?
This means there is no Will and the state decides who gets what. It is important to note that a photocopy of a signed Will is NOT a legal document.
Assets may not be passed on as you intended and if you have no living family members everything will go to the Crown.
Further, with no valid Will, a Court would appoint guardians for your children under 18 (potentially foster care), inheritance tax may be applicable that could otherwise have been avoided and additional costs would be applied to your Estate along with added stress to those left behind would ensue.
Funeral Plans
Death is a harsh reality which is bound to effect us all. So why not plan for it?
With our funeral plans, you can ease the financial burden from the shoulders of your family after your death.
Funeral arrangement costs which are rising day by day, according to the Sun lost cost of dying report the average cost of funeral Directors costs in 2019 was £4417 and by 2030 is expected to be around £6900.
By taking a Funeral Plan you can lock in at today’s prices and even if you die in 30 years there will be nothing else to pay.
