Born and brought up in Minster village I know the Island pretty well but I rarely ever go back to visit. The South side of the island is wonderful to walk between Elmley and Harty, the North side has the clay cliffs which are brilliant for eocene fossils. The cliffs were my childhood playground but if you're not familiar with them and the beach between the boom at Minster and warden bay don't even think about going there without someone who knows the place as there are some very real dangers! Leysdown is like a forgotten trading post in Australia's Northern Territory and makes Seasalter look like a beauty in the South of France. Please don't go to Sheerness as the North Peckham council estate is prettier and safer. Tell you what, just don't go to Sheppey! The East Kent coast between Tankerton and Hythe and the country side within has everything you want,and remember that the Seasalter and Whitstable beaches are awful and Romney Marsh is very much like Leysdowns big brother More...

Shame this lovely little island is in the thames estuary and has no real beach you can really enjoy! Little bit dated, and with one way on and off, a little bit restricted traffic wise.

Been coming here for years and it never disappoints. Great pebbles and mud beach with excellent pub overlooking it. Some people are snobby about the many families visiting to stay in caravans or campsites, but it makes it more authentic and unassuming to have children and all ages around happily enjoying the island.

Sheerness - Not the prettiest of areas. We parked up after getting petrol as we saw some beautiful gates which we presumed would lead to a park and then onto the beach. (Note to self never presume). This place is fascinating and some of the architecture is lovely but it’s been neglected by the council and should have money invested in facade improvements.
