The wonderful Texas Joe’s gives you the chance to experience the best barbecue this side of the Atlantic in my personal opinion. With a selection of great beers and a massively loaded bar, if you like say, a Margarita then you’ll love what they do here. The staff are really personable, and they know their subject.. (I.e. the food!!) I make the comment re barbecue above and I stand by that, but if you don’t want barbecue and fancy some of the other Texan options on their menu, let me assure you these are really rich and full of that Texan home cooked feeling. The food is decent. I would eat it again, especially the short rib. The service was terrible. The owner was walking round scowling, did not crack a smile once and never looked up from the desk when we left. He was barking orders at the staff. We were hounded by the waiting staff to order, removing the plates when we were still eating, and rushing us to pay the bill when we still had 20 mins left on the booking. Don't bother. More...

Th short rib was melt in your mouth tender. Nice size and the sides of cornbread and Mac and cheese were awesome. Reason for 4 star is because the smoker only uses English oak, and given it's a Texan BBQ place it should have a touch of hickory wood in there otherwise it's not Texan. Also the meat needs more of a bang of flavours from the dry rub. Edit: Updating this to 5 stars rather than 4 because I visited again and although not perfect, my main criticisms were about excessive saltiness and I didn't find that this time. I tasted the chicken wings, the beef rib again, and the beef brisket. The chicken wings could still use a little less salt, but all were delicious. Minor criticisms would be that the portion sizes are a bit inconsistent (beef rib in particular), and the beef rib was definitely a bit drier than last time. I would still strongly recommend ordering the fries without salt to balance things out. I found the pickles enjoyable and less overpowering with fennel than last time. Original review: Overall, I'd go again. But I think they could make some easy improvements. The beef short rib was packed with great smoky flavour and was perfectly tender, and the portion size was decent (which you would expect at £22). The burnt outside of the rib however was really excessively salty, which made that part a bit inedible, a shame because the flavours were great. The slaw was heavy on the fennel, which was interesting but overpowering. The chips were also well cooked, crispy, but again, really very heavily salted and I couldn't finish them for that reason. The buttermilk and sour cherry pie initially looked a bit small for £7.50 but actually it was very rich, but it didn't quite work for me - the sour cherries being too sugary to balance the sweetness of the pie, so I wouldn't order that again. Love American BBQ, over all good experience but not sure I’d gone back as quite expensive. The meats were good, but what stood out were the stuffed jalapeños which were really flavorful… on the contrary the wings were covered in a thick layer of pepper which wasn’t very good and the dessert also was not to my liking… no actual complaints but wish the meat trays were more loaded for the money paying Kid-friendliness: Not kid friendly. Small crowded tables.

Excellent and attentive service from the team, and catered for my toddler when they informed us some of their food had spices and may not be suitable for him. Really enjoyed our dinner here. Everyone’s brisket was cooked perfectly. So smokey and delicious. My pork was incredibly soft and tasty all the way through. The sides were all fantastic as was the bone marrow. Service was good. Overall the five of us all agreed we made the right choice choosing this place for our get together meal.
