We consider the quality of the cake to be the most important factor, which is why we use the highest quality ingredients available, and free range eggs from the surrounding farms.

I went to collect my grandsons birthday cake today at a cost of £80. The place in Hove is very difficult to find. When I eventually found the RING doorbell the woman who answered was extremely abrupt. Gave my name and then waited . Nothing. I rang the doorbell again to be told, rather nastily, that she was boxing it up. After quite some time, a rather disgruntled woman arrived with a box. Still standing outside of the building, so no chance to see where the cake had been baked I asked to see the cake. She told me the cake box had been sealed. When I asked to see the cake she was very put out. I told her that her customer service was absolutely horrendous. She just sneered at me. She put the cake box on top of a bin and opened it. NEVER use this company . Get a better deal at Tesco - at least you know it’s been baked in a reputable bakery and can see into the box before you buy it. More...

Hi Sandra, thank you for the feedback. We have a google pin giving our exact location, if you struggled to find us your were more than welcome to phone for directions, admittedly it isn’t the easiest place to find, but we offer free delivery on all orders to save our customers the hassle. We are a small hard working team and I know all my employees very well, I know who dealt with your collection, and I know she would not have been rude or disgruntled on any level, if it came across that way, I apologise on her behalf but I can assure you it was not intended. All our cakes made to order and we box them up when they are ready to go, this takes about 15 seconds, however we are on the second floor and its a large building so we can’t unfortunately bring the cake to you instantaneously. We generally don’t allow customers to come into the bakery for collections as it is a working kitchen, you would be required to wear a hair net, apron and overshoes to meet environmental health regulations, that is why we brought the cake down to you If you’d like to know what the bakery looks like you can check out our instagram - https://www.instagram.com/harrybattencakes/?hl=en You're quite right, Tescos is a lot cheaper - because there cakes are mass produced, use cheap ingredients, are full of preservative (so they can sit on the shelves for weeks on end) and are a fraction of the size - your £80 cake, a 10” feeds 35 people and weighed 6kg. For what it’s worth, Tescos (and all other supermarkets) don’t actually make their own cakes, they’re supplied by another company and boxed in Tescos packaging. Tescos won’t divulge who that company is so there is no way of know if they are a reputable company or what their food standards are like. We have a 5 star health and safety rating (which you can verify with the council) and countless 5 star reviews, I’m not sure what else we can do to be considered a ‘reputable company’

Harry made us a fabulous 3 tier semi-iced cake for our wedding in October at Wadhurst Castle. As we live out of town we weren't able to meet up in person, but it was very easy to talk things through with Harry over the phone and by email. We arranged to try some of the flavours with some samples through the post. The lemon curd filling was amazing and we also went for butter cream with fresh raspberries which worked really well too. We have had lots of comments from guests on the cake, it tasted delicious. Harry listened to exactly what we wanted and tied the finishing touches in with our colour scheme perfectly. We had a wonderful Lego train cake built by Harry for our sons birthday. It tasted great and looked amazing. Their was a fully working train made out of cake and a hidden Lego motor driving round the train track, with a train station made out of cake as well. The train stopped at the station for the cake cutting. I found Harry through the wedding venue, The Ravenswood in West Sussex. We went for a naked three tier cake with passion fruit, chocolate and carrot flavours. What inspired you to start your own business?
Having always baked and spent a great deal of my free time, not just cooking, but designing and creating things with my hands - starting a business that makes beautiful and delicious creations seemed like a natural choice.
Why should our clients choose you?
Most cake makers are only concerned about what the cake looks like, but the taste of the cake is just as important. We don't bake our cakes any sooner than 36 hours before the cake is due to be eaten, this ensures they stay as fresh as possible.
We are also happy to provide samples and fully discuss what you want your cake to be like so you know exactly what you'll be getting on the day. We also have precautions in place to make sure your cake arrives and is set up safely, so you have nothing to worry about.
