They were very helpful when I called with questions. As a result, was able to avoid an expensive procedure for my bird. Glad to have a good bird vet in the area.

I had to take my parakeet to the vet at the last minute because she had an egg stuck in her. I called two other places and they weren't able to squeeze me in or didn't have an avian vet. But one of the vet offices gave me the number of Wildwood. I called and was relieved when they had a late appointment. From the receptionist, vet tech to the vet, everyone was so nice and understanding. They were gentle with my bird and Dr. Azevedo sedated her and took out the egg and put stitches in. She gave me tips for how to discourage egg laying and prescribed medication.Unfortunately my bird passed away despite doing everything we could for her. I'm thankful for the compassionate care they gave my bird. After I spoke to the receptionist to cancel the follow up appointment, later that night, Dr. Azevedo left me a voicemail saying that she was sorry that my bird passed away and if I had any questions, to let her know. That was really nice of her.I would recommend this hospital if you have an emergency. And I now I know of a vet that is close by and can see birds. More...

Bunny was experiencing painful gi stasis and saw two different vets before coming here. Both times they have told me that he doesn't have a very high chance of survival and kind of just left me to deal with it without any advice or direction on where to go from there. Neither wanted to give him an x Ray. One of them said they would need to give him gas to relax before an x Ray because rabbits are jumpy (wtf). I couldn't just go home and leave my bunny to slowly pass.  I called so many places to see if they can take him and Wildwood was able to take him in before they closed for the night. Dr. Azevedo did all she could to figure out how to help him get better.. she took the time to call before and after each procedure and updated me on his progress, going through the x rays with me and thoroughly explaining what my options were and what each medication given was for. Although it was a very emotional and stressful time to be in, because his diagnoses wasn't that great according to the x rays and his refusal to eat anything, her constant communication really helped ease my nerves. After two weeks of dropping in and sometimes leaving bunny there overnight for a few days, he miraculously started eating and pooping normally at the 3rd week. I'm not sure how that happened, for all I know he was just being a brat and wanted to show me what stress really was... but I am super thankful to Dr. Azevedo for her compassion and dedication. Also, the rest of the staff was super nice :) thank you!!! More...

I can't say enough great things about Wildwood. Dr. Sanders and Dr. Peak are both highly-skilled, compassionate doctors who go above and beyond to make sure your pet is healthy and happy. I have two Reticulated Pythons, Kenai and Mira, who developed severe bacterial infections. They did extensive lab work to identify exactly what was wrong and ensure that the right antibiotics were being used, did thorough physical exams, addressed all of our questions and concerns, and even did followup calls and emails after hours to make sure the treatment was going well and explain their test results. Both doctors and the vet techs and staff went out of their way to make sure our pets felt as comfortable as possible during the exams, providing heating pads and towels and handling the animals with care. The front office staff are also very kind and knowledgeable and are always a joy to talk to. I was given many tips about preventative care by making changes to housing and substrate as well. Above all, every single person I've interacted with at Wildwood is a kind, genuine, and empathetic person who seems to care about my pets as much as I do! Highly highly recommend bringing your reptiles here, whether they're sick or just for an annual checkup. You will be in great hands! More...

Read especially if you are looking for an exotics vet! I have been to multiple exotics vets (and to some vets claiming to have exotics expertise, though perhaps not so much in hindsight). Of the many exotics vets I have brought pets to, I give HIGHEST PRAISE TO DR. WELSH AND HER TEAM; techs and front desk staff alike! I brought my 4 y.o. male leopard gecko to Wildwood Vet Hospital on an emergency basis a few days ago, and I could not be more pleased with his recovery thus far. My pet's treatment by Dr. Welsh and her team has been stellar. Dr. Welsh is truly knowledgeable about reptiles - her exam of my leopard gecko was thorough, she laid out all treatment options I could consider in handling an emergent condition (including pricing of all treatment options). But, best of all, because of her patience and her genuine investment in rehabilitation of my pet over the course of two nights (I left him to be boarded at the clinic), we were able to take the least invasive and most cost-effective route in beginning to return him to health (he needed neither of the procedures which were initially presented as last-resort options). I will be bringing my leopard gecko back to Dr. Welsh and I would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone with exotic pets! Thank you to this wonderful team. More...

OMG! I can't believe I haven't done a review of this place in San Jose for Dr. Diana Welsh and her husband Dr. Chris Sanders in the Redwood City location! I started keeping birds in 1993. At that time it was Dr. Pat Latas there. When she left in '96 or '97 Dr. Chris Sanders took over. It's always stressful when you have a great vet then someone new takes over the practice. At the time I had a green cheek conure and a golden mantled rosella. I live alone and am alone so my pets are my kids. I walk in to there then location in Portola Valley to a lovely office staff, all very knowlegable about exotics. At the time this location was called Wildwood Bird & Reptile Hospital. They saw only exotics, and still do at the Redwood City location. I was in heaven there mingling with like minded staff who adored their exotics. Dr. Sanders was great. He spent a good amount of time when I had issues or concerns with my birds and the front staff were so helpful as well. Sue Hons was my birds' sitter for a few years in her lovely cozy home with 1 room being a bird room. I loved going there and knew my birds loved being there. I called it a birdy spa.In 2012 I got my first guinea pig. By that time I had moved from the Peninsula to Fremont so San Jose's location was easier to get to for me. I can't say enough how much I love Dr. Diana Welsh. She exudes absolute love for animals. First she picks my gp up and holds her up to her shoulder with a big smile on her face chatting with her while listening to her breathe. She does a very thorough examination and addresses all of your concerns. She takes all the time you need to have all your concerns addressed. She is the warmest kindest most caring person and her love of animals is deeply felt. That's the kind of vet you want. She and her husband are true exotic vets. Many vets claim to be exotics as well but they never did the additional schooling and are not certified. They say they are because some people bring their exotics to them so that's their experience. Not a good idea. Exotics are very anatomically different than cats and dogs. If you have a heart problem you don't go to your pcp, you ask to go see a cardiologist. Same thing here. Dr. Welsh also sees cats and dogs, basically any animal you can think of while Dr. Sanders has kept his practice to birds and reptiles. He does come to their San Jose clinic to do acupuncture on dogs. They both adore animals and it shows. They have my pets as patients for life! Too bad we can't give 10 stars!! I can't recommend them enough!! More...

Wildwood Veterinary Hospital was recommended to me by two friends.  We went there for a second opinion on a large lump that developed near our Golden Retriever's elbow.  The tests at the other vet were inconclusive but it had been recommended to remove the growth.  Unfortunately, the first vet hospital referred us to a specialty hospital for the surgery, and the cost seemed prohibitive.  As a result, we didn't act quickly and watched the tumor continue to grow. Finally, we went to Dr. Welsh at Wildwood for a second opinion. Dr. Welsh took care of the surgery in-house and was amazing with post-surgery recovery. This all happened years ago, and our relationship with Dr. Welsh and the Wildwood staff developed as we continued to have Wildwood care for our dog's needs. Dr. Welsh is an amazing, kind, soft-spoken woman with an incredible amount of veterinary knowledge and experience. During one of our visits with our dog, we met another client in the waiting room with her pet snake who had been diagnosed with a respiratory infection. We've seen birds, reptiles, rodents, and of course the usual dogs and cats waiting to see Dr. Welsh. After our dog passed away, we were brought to tears to receive a hand-written card signed by EVERY staff member... some of whom wrote personal stories about our dog. It really showed how much they care about every client that walks through their door. I would highly recommend Wildwood Veterinary Hospital to anyone in the area. More...

Dr. Tina Peak and staff are the most wonderful people on earth. They care and monitor your pet and they are extremely resourceful. I first called for urgent care and they told me Dr. Peak is only seeing guinea pigs here on Mondays and Fridays because Dr. Sanders doesn't see guinea pigs as he has allergies. (I do relate to that as my parents are allergic to guinea pigs) I had her for only two appointments for my beloved late guinea pig Pumpkin. The clinic is very quiet and relaxed. Normally Pumpkin was very uptight in other clinics as phones are ringing, dogs are barking, and cats meowing. It's nice that it's a small clinic. I'd rather take any pet here rather than City vet clinics. Unfortunately Pumpkin was put down today. Dr. Peak and staff know how much humans are attached to guinea pig owners. Plus they are inexpensive compared to city vet clinics. Thank you Dr. Peak and the whole staff for your care and compassion. To my family, you were guardian angels for Pumpkin as well as us.
