Walking With Dinopaws

Brilliant! Dominique has been walking Loki for over two years (I think) - she’s incredible. Loki goes absolutely nuts when he hears her van pull up, he can’t wait to go out with her and the gang, and he comes back tired and happy. I wanted to write a quick message about how good Dominique was with our Labrador, Bella. This is the first time we’ve used anyone else besides family to care for her and she was brilliant. Almost 3 years ago we adopted a beautiful but very anxious rescue dog. She was scarred both mentally and physically by the awful neglect and abuse she had suffered. Slowly she started to trust her new forever family and became less fearful and more playful. 2 years on our circumstances changed and we needed to employ a dog walker. We needed someone gentle, yet firm, patient and understanding. In May 2018 Domonique entered our lives. After initially coming to introduce herself she arrived to take misty for her first walk. Misty, on the other hand, had different ideas. She dug all 4 paws into the carpet and her bottom stuck fast to the floor as if superglued. That's OK- we thought, she will soon get used to walking with someone new- we thought, what dog refuses to walk- we thought. How wrong could so many people be. Every week, almost every day, Domonique persevered. Bringing with her treats, different ideas and always a sunny smile. She loved misty and was determined that Misty would love her too. But Misty was just too anxious to leave the safety of her home without one of her new family. We could not have imagined how difficult it was going to be and most dog walkers would have thrown the towel in. Not Dominique. She refused to give in. Finally, last week when Dominique arrived, Misty greeted her with a wagging tail and sat in front of her to have her lead put on. She then made her way to the door with a delighted and bemused dog walker in tow! Long after we had taken Domonique into our hearts, Misty had too. 6 months of determination and hard work had paid off. Misty now greets Domonique like an old friend. I can not express how truly grateful I am to this amazing, kind and gorgeous young woman. Thank you my lovely. I don't know what we would have done without you. BTW for those who are wondering, I should probably mention that Dominique steadfastly refused to take payment at any point, dispute my best efforts. She said she wouldn't take payment until misty happily walks with her. Well now we owe her big time! More...
