About 6 months before our wedding, after looking around and speaking to lots of people, Mel was recommended to us through one of the small business meets in Oxford. Mel came and met us for a drink locally and as we talked through our requests I knew she was 'the one'! She grasped immediately what we wanted - candid, reportage style shots that were an organic record of out big day - and this is what she delivered.As well as giving us beautiful photos that hung closely to the brief, the service provided was also super quick and efficient - even sending us 5 photos to wake up the day after our wedding. Why was Mel the best woman for the job? And why was the photoshoot such a success?My dogs are both family and friends. So when I decided I needed a photographer to capture the true essence of my dogs for my business (My Animal Matters) I knew immediately that Mel was the one. Why?Mel is a dog lover.She is natural around dogs and she has a warm and lovely nature so of course the dogs picked up on that. For me, this was THE most important criteria when picking a photographer.They had met Mel before so they knew what to expect.The photoshoot took place in our home so of course they are their most natural somewhere familiarDogs are highly intuitive and pick up on our energy and intention. The intention was simply for them to be themselves and let the camera capture that. No performing, unless they chose to do so.When Mel arrived she allowed them each to sniff their way around her equipment. They were able to familiarise themselves with the new objects in their own time.We took our time. There was no feeling of rushing or having to get the perfect shot. Mel just worked with what was in front of her and made everyone feel completely relaxed.I was relaxed as I trust Mel and trust her around our dogs. If there had been any element of awkwardness, the dogs would have picked up on this so it’s so important to find a photographer you click with – excuse the pun!Lots of snooze time afterwards as even though they coped extremely well, it’s a new experience and so plenty recovery time to process the experience in peace.Thank-you to Mel of Vivacious Mel Photography for creating some wonderful memories for our very special family. Mel photographed our wedding in Ireland last April and she was a pleasure to work with. The engagement shoot, although an unusual concept for me to consider in the beginning as I don’t like being the centre of attention, was great fun and resulted with some beautiful photos of us. During the run in to the wedding day Mel was calm and very helpful with advice and tips. ... it was a bit like Torville and Dean's bolero ... but without the ice, and the skates and ... well OK, not like Torville and Dean exactly - but the easy slow tuneful melody started with Mel setting the scene ( moving the furniture - checking the light - putting me at ease ) developed it's pace ( with real movie star lighting and some stage direction ) and before I knew it, she had captured me, ( the me like I feel on the inside ) cue surge of relief and hurrahs all round - the pixels were all aligned and I had my new portrait photos for my business website, LinkedIn etc. and the session was over.
