A few weeks ago I was really stuck in a rut and knew things had to change. I did a search on the Internet and liked the idea of getting back into fitness with a personal trainer, in a relatively private setting. My main aim, really, is to get into a routine where activity and training are part of my lifestyle, although I would like to lose some weight (classic) and generally feel better about myself. In my first meeting with Umberto, he listened to my aims, asked pertinent questions and as a result has devised a programme that I am really enjoying. He gives you all of his attention in the sessions, focusing on good technique as well as firing up muscles that have been asleep a long time. I leave the sessions feeling energised and positive, and look forward to each one. He doesn't just give advice for the hour you are there. He helps you to adapt your lifestyle, little by little, so that the little changes become healthy habits. I have not cut down on food at all over the last two weeks (although I am supposed to be cutting back on the vino) - if anything I have been eating more (protein especially on Umbertos advice), yet have lost 2kg. Not only that, but I keep prodding myself in the stomach since I am convinced it is starting to tone up (as well as admiring my legs in the mirror and striking muscle-man poses but that is probably too much info). I have been training with Umberto for a couple of months now and in my opinion believe he is one of the most experienced and committed Personal Trainers around.
Having struggled with illness and not being very active over recent years, I was overweight, felt very lethargic and lacked the confidence and motivation on my own to better myself.
Since training with Umberto my fitness and strength has improved considerably and each day I wake up feeling more proactive. Umberto knows how to motivate me during our sessions and makes each of them challenging and rewarding. He ensures that my technique is always correct to avoid any injuries and he is always ready to start training ahead of time with an exercise routine planned out for me.

I have regular 1-1 training with Umberto. He is an excellent PT who tailors sessions to meet my goals; includes plenty of variety – free weights, bodyweight, HIIT, stretching, co-ordination and mobility – in the workouts; and is knowledgeable about physiology, anatomy and nutrition. He is also incredibly supportive, engaging and encouraging and, unlike some PTs, doesn’t prejudge or underestimate what his clients can achieve. Whatever your age or gender, Umberto will encourage you to achieve your maximum. With his help, I have lifted heavier weights than I would have managed otherwise; strengthened my core; improved my posture, stamina and co-ordination; and become more mindful of how my body should feel and respond to exercise. How do you help your clients achieve their fitness goals?
I do have a different approach to fitness where knowledge transfer is at the heart of the session. My clients are empowered so they can apply techniques and programs in future on their own. Adaptability and flexibility to clients needs are a must in my business.
What’s the secret to getting the body of your dreams?
Hard work and consistency. There are no short cuts!
What do you love most about your job?
I define myself a people person and i love the interactions with everyone. Because of that i have the opportunity to learn something new every single day, something not strictly related to fitness only.
What inspired you to start your own business?
A motorbike crush! When i broke my left shoulder i didn't receive adequate care from NHS and i thought "i will never be able to use my arm normally again". But at some point i decided to fight back and apply the small exercises from the physiotherapy in a bit larger scale in the gym 6 times per week. My recovery was astonishing. In 3 months doing that i recovered almost 90% of the normal use of my left arm. At that time i was heavily overweight as i was on bed for a while after the crush so i set to lose weight as my next goal. Using HIIT training with light weights and fast speed i lost around 30 kilos in 4 months! One day my girlfriend said "if you like what you do that much why don't you help others to achieve the same". So here i am.
Why should our clients choose you?
Differently of some other PTs i have experienced pain, i have experienced frustration, at some point i hated my body and i know how people feel when they talk about their life. For this reason i have created Umaxfitness gym. A completely different environment compared to commercial gyms. A small community where members come from similar experience and they are looking for something a bit more advanced for their training.
