Q&A

For me, my best portraits come from authentic moments. Finding common ground, and learning about my subject's story creates an immediate connection. My images are always a reflection of that human exchange.

It's always important to get a sense of the client's vision for a project. Establishing a clear sense of how the content will be used, where it will be placed, and the end goals for the content are paramount; the more information I have, the more I can help the client maximize on their goals.

I love engaging with people -- especially people who are convinced they are not 'photogenic'. I love debunking that for them.

I've always had a very independent sense of creativity. Photographers and artists like Annie Leibovitz, Kevyn Aucoin, Pat McGrath, and Peter Lindbergh have repeatedly inspired me to follow my instincts and visual curiosity.

While I consider myself highly technical and formalistic from an artistic perspective, I think the most differentiating quality about my work is that it is truly made in front of the camera. I plan meticulously, and I execute accordingly -- the end product is an authentic, beautifully lit photo, with minimal retouching. I've been called a perfectionist, and I won't disagree with that.
