I really enjoyed my photo shoot with Todd and Julie (who did my makeup).  The head shots that Todd created were professional and beautifully lit.  I appreciated how patient and thoughtful Todd was about trying different poses and making me feel comfortable in front of the camera!  I definitely recommend Todd's photography services and would be happy to work with him again in the future. We just had our first session with Todd and his assistant Anna!  We had a great time working with them.  Very professional!  We met at our favorite park for our holiday card pictures!  They were well prepared, had scouted the best locations to shoot and even brought props!Best of all the photos are fantastic, we received our proofs in less than 24 hours! We will look forward to working with them again!!Melissa R. Todd was amazing! He was very professional from start to finish and made me feel very comfortable in front of the camera. He gave me ideas on how to pose but also allowed me to share my own ideas if I had any . His daughter was an awesome assistant as well! He said that if I was displeased for any reason at all with the photo shoot I could let him know and we'd redo the whole thing free of charge! I would definitely use him as a photographer again! We just got back the photos from a family session with Todd and loved all the pictures! It was hard for us to resist ordering every shot. Todd is so pleasant to work with. He is very responsive, flexible and most of all patient! It's not always fast (and easy) to work with little ones. Todd has an eye for good photos, especially portraits, and he will make suggestions on how to get the best shot. But what we really appreciate is that he is also very open to our ideas as well. Family photos are a team effort and we loved working with Todd. More...

Q&As

Authenticity. As a photographer who works mostly with people (headshots, portraits) I could wax poetic all day long about photo composition, light and shadow, cropping and perspective, color theory and creative posing... but at the end of the day, what separates the good photos from the great photos is connecting with my subject, and reflecting their true, authentic selves in the photos. That process involves taking the time to get to know and connect with the people you are shooting, and knowing how to make them feel relaxed enough to just be themselves. All that other stuff won't make a bit a difference in the end if the subject is acting in a way that isn't really true to themselves. People are attracted to authenticity.

The first and most important question is to find out what their goals are when having their photo taken. Is this for business? Social media? Is it a special event? Do you want to transform yourself into someone you've always wanted to be, or show off the beauty that you know you have but don't expose to the world every day? In order for me to delight them with the photos, I must give them photos that satisfy their goals. As an artist I add my own vision to my photos, but it still must reflect my client as well. Past that, I just need details of what and where and who I will be working with. How many people? Is there a special location you want to shoot at? Did you have a specific outfit in mind? Do we need group shots with certain people? How long is the event? It just depends on each situation.

I love being artistic and creative and bringing my own unique perspective to my work. I am also fascinated with people and with faces however. The best part of all of that is marrying those things together. I love finding the unique beauty that is present in every one of us, and bringing it to life. I love the process of getting to know and connect with each and every client, and the confidence and joy it brings them when they see the finished product.

I've always loved photos. I often find myself on the web looking at all kinds of websites for beautiful photos, of people, of the world, and wishing that I could be the person behind the camera that took that photo that moved me emotionally. Having never touched a camera before in my life, I took a risk, invested in a decent camera and some necessary gear, and then went to "The University of YouTube" and studied all I could, then practiced all I could. Rinse and repeat. At first I found myself begging people just to let me take their photos for free! Within a year however, I found myself on the red carpet in Hollywood, taking photos of celebrities and attracting clients who connect with the look and feel of my work. It all comes down to desire and drive, believing in yourself, and the willingness to take risks and learn from mistakes.

A client should choose me if they like my work. I'm a great photographer, sure, but so are lots of photographers, and many may have skills and perspectives that I don't. But if you look at someone's work, and what they've done just feels right and attracts you, then that's a big clue that you are going to be happy with the photos that they provide to you as well. I know a lot of people are tempted to pick a photographer because they have a bargain-basement price, or offer a free toaster with every purchase (kidding). The end product is the bottom line however, and if you don't like the photographer's style and work, then the low price isn't going to make you love it anymore. If you don't like my work, then you don't pay for it. I won't put any photos out that I can't stand behind and defend.
