We had Steve to perform a Gin tasting night at the golf club. Steve was professional from the start,producing a welcome drink of prosecco with a choice of gins, before a 30 minutes talk about the history of gin,which was very informative and Steve was clearly very knowledgeable. Then the important part of blind tasting 8 gins! These ranged from the cheaper supermarket best sellers to £50 bottles. Then 8 different tonics to try,and again some very interesting results. We booked Steve for my best friends hen do. There was 20 of us in a big house in Norfolk for the weekend. Steve was brilliant. He made it very easy to book and make changes when some people pulled out at the last minute and even made sure the non-drinkers didn’t miss out on the fun. We arranged for Steve's cocktail masterclass at a barn we were staying in for a hen do, there was 19 of us and everyone had a great time - even those who didn't drink much! Steve was very helpful when making the booking and then caught up with me a week or so beforehand to confirm details, attendees, etc. We made three cocktails each and had the most deadliest shot I've ever tasted! As I had originally booked for 22 Steve made up the extra drinks we would have received which I didn't even think about & they tasted delicious so i'm glad he did! Steve happily set up the bar himself with no need for any input from myself, Steve was very friendly, funny, knowledgeable and even took pictures of us all throughout the night that he then shared with one of the group to pass on. Steve was excellent for a surprise birthday party. His guidance leading up to the event along with tailoring cocktails to the Theme was superb. All at the party were very impressed with his knowledge, good humour and excellent cocktails. He was completely self-contained, left no trace or mess only very happy and sloshed guests. We booked Steve for Bartender, Bar and Glass hire for a 40th birthday and New Year's Eve party. He provided great advice on cocktails, a full shopping list for us to get the ingredients we needed (but supplied the tricky ones for us) and then spent the evening mixing fantastic cocktails for our guests. What do you love most about your job?
StB spent the first 3 years growing Thirst First, taking bigger and bigger events but in early 2016 he realised his true love. And realised there's a huge niche in the smaller, more intimate Events. Now, while Thirst First does take on larger events, we truly specialise in Events for 6 to 50 people. Mainly House Parties, Hen Parties and Corporate Events
What inspired you to start your own business?
After a 17 year career working, running and managing Pubs and Bars in Cambridgeshire, Essex and London, self-teaching myself cocktails along the way, I decided that I wanted something different. I’d spent a few years during this time in Cambridge University, where out of term, we were running big outside Bars for Weddings, Conferences and Balls. Turns out, I enjoyed this waaaay more than actually working in the same environment and same customer’s week in, week out. I won’t lie, the manual labour involved is a lot more and "Event Bartending" is a whole different ball game to working behind the same bar day in, day out…but I fell in love. After a few years of thinking and saving, I quit the “real Job” and Thirst First was launched.
