I had never been to a gym or yoga or exercise class of any type. I dropped in for a community yoga class. I did not know it was a Core and Conditioning class rather than meditation and breathing class - HOWEVER - I had a great experience from the minute I arrived to the minute I left. The yogi made me feel welcome and personally attended to - letting me know when I was succeeding and guided me when I needed to be repositioned. I enjoyed my first experience here and will come back. I have been studying with Emile for around 3 years. Emile is by far one of the most compassionate, energetic, and engaging teachers I have ever had the fortune to learn from.
While respectful of your edge Emile's super power lies in sparking ones curiosity about where you can take yourself through crafting a well balanced practice. Stay woke!

I must give BIG PROPS to my son Noah Julian for his expertise & knowledge on strengthening my left fretting hand. Using a series of movement & hand exercises he has put the guitar back in my hands after eight grueling weeks of pain & no guitar. Although my left thumb is repositioning due to carpal tunnel and nerve damage, my thumb & hand are slowly strengthening & bringing back my love of playin' music to my heart & soul. Thanx & much Love Noah for caring enough to get me from not giving up! SHOUT OUT to, Noah, Emile and The Yoga and Movement Sanctuary for their help healing the Mind , Body & Spirit... Peace & Love ! Of course I have a vested interest here since Noah and Emile both teach at my studio, Magu Yoga, but I wouldn't have hired them had I not thought they were the cream of the crop. (Although I don't think crops actually produce cream). I think these fine men are stellar humans and wise old souls teaching intelligent movement/yoga with an avant guard perspective that speaks to not only the young new mover but also to the experienced practitioner who has moved beyond the dogma of "tradition". They also give damn good hands-on assists. And this is coming from a woman (me) who is sort of known for her assists if I do say so myself. xo Check these boys out asap. More...

I met Noah Julian over 5 years ago at a yoga class at my gym in Bala cynwyd. From the moment I started taking classes with Noah, I knew that he was a special and gifted teacher (not to mention a lovely and warm person). I have continued to take classes with Noah both privately and at his YMS studio. He has both inspired and motivated me to be the best physical self I can be. I cannot say enough about Noah and the awesome YMS studio he co-owns with Emile. Noah, Emile, Jonathan, Lily, and Ron are all amazing, creative and dedicated teachers. I feel YMS is the best yoga and movement studio there is. More...

I worked with Noah Julian in an individual capacity while suffering a depilating illness. Noah worked collaboratively with my Naturopathic and Chiropractic Doctor. Initially developing a restorative yoga plan to aid in physical and emotional recovery. After months stabilizing, physically I was in disrepair. In tandem with my Chiropractor’s recommendations Noah tailored a framework program to build strength and stamina that would progressively increase, enabling me to develop my own home practice. His ability to clearly communicate with me and my other health professionals my progress has exceeded my expectations. Noah has a research based approach with an astute knowledge of body mechanics, techniques for developing a meditative practice, and is cognizant of individual limitations but also how to maximize potential.

Thankfully I’m doing much better and an happy to attend one of his classes at the studio .

John led a great class. We had fun, worked hard, and left feeling much better than when we walked in. The movements were specific to areas where we had lingering tightness, and we even got to play with a little acro yoga. Class was challenging, and definitely unique (Restorative and Partner Therapeutics). Highly suggested! More...

YMS is my favorite studio in Philly. I will even go as far to say that YMS is my favorite studio (period). I relocated out of state and mean it when I say I haven't found anywhere as good as YMS. Come here for expert level instruction, expect an open and welcoming environment, and advance your practice to the next level. Noah and Emile each have different approaches to movement but can accommodate anyone. You may think moving across the floor like a lizard is not your thing, but just go with it and you/your body won't regret it. These types of movements are so beneficial and critical in building strength for more advanced movements and even for holding postures. Or just come in and ask to work on handstands if you want.  Come here and experiment with all the classes and find what you like. There is really something for everyone and no matter the class size, you will feel like you are supposed to be there. If you aren't a member, please do yourself a favor and become one now. It is a huge investment in yourself for not a lot of money (seriously worth it!), and you will be supporting a great community and teachers who care and focus on quality, which is so hard to find these days. This new Yoga studio is not your regular yoga-for-fitness, lululemon crowd situation. For starters it's owned by three dudes, but before you get any notions that this will be some sort of broga-crossfit hybrid, you should know the ratio of owners with manbuns to not is 2:1 and facial hair is 3:0, and they have various trainings and talents involving circus, yoga, and meditation.  They're all very friendly and knowledgeable,  and their goal seems to really be to help people progress in their own yoga and movement journey, and go beyond a typical yoga experience. They even have workbooks for new members to journal, set goals, etc. These are not your typical brogis. The mediation and movement class was extremely relaxing but not super physically challenging (it's really more of a challenge mentally, you should be ready to free your mind, and the rest will follow). The intro class was a great class for beginners, very in depth and accessible. I'd love to come back and check out some of their more unique offerings,  like classes involving the rings. The studio is brand new and running some great intro month specials for new customers.  An unlimited pass also get you access to the studio during open studio time,  which seems like it will be basically like recess/free play and could be a great way to get some tips on developing a home practice. Bonus: all their mats are lululemon and there's no rental fee! Their blocks are these weird wood blocks that look very cool but are not as soft as I'm used to. The studio is long and narrow with one bathroom/changing room and a coat rack and some cubbies up front. Beautiful space and only one mirror which I Iike. There's no physical door between the lobby area and the yoga room, so hopefully your mindfulness can keep out any street/lobby sounds.Check it out if you're looking for something different! More...
