A really nice place with very helpful staff. The veggie dish we had was fab and there were a couple of other interesting veggie dishes too.

Authentic Lakeland pub. We did not dine but beer was great and atmosphere cozy and welcoming on a cold winters night.

Food was very nice. It's not cheap but locally represents decent value for money. The service was a weird mix of self service as in you have to get your own cutlery and sauces which isn't the end of the world but for 3 courses you'll be paying £70 with a few drinks. Decent selection of alcohol but for tall people the beams are low so watch your head! More...

Great location to have a pint, walked from Ambleside to Troutbeck and stopped off here mid way. Lovely traditional feel. Good selection of food and ales!

Great pub to stop at half way along a walk. It has a lovely beer garden with nice views and the club sandwich is highly recommended.

Haven't tried the hotel, but I've eaten and drunk here several times over the last three years. The food is fine, adequate, if a little expensive. It's all about the beer and cider, and the friendly atmosphere. The main bar is the hub, with folk evenings, spoken word evenings or plenty of opportunities for a quiet post-walk pint or five. As you move through the rooms, the view improves (big windows looking down the valley) but the atmosphere gets a bit more "hotel restaurant". I prefer the first two rooms. As for the beer and cider... five local ales and (literally) a wall of ciders! Always in excellent condition, too. More...

The hotel might be a little hard to get to, but it's well worth it. We only needed the room for one night so we picked one of the lowest priced places we could find, but we got way more than we expected. The building looks great, pretty unusual look inside. Everywhere was very clean and tidy. And the staff were absolutely great. All very friendly and helpful, as well as good conversation. The choice of drinks in the bar was remarkable. Definitely intend to stay there again, and can't recommend the place highly enough. More...

We called in as a party of Five,on the off chance of a drink as the weather was glorious.
We ended up stopping for a meal, every meal was really hearty and presented with great care and attention. Food and drink prices are also very reasonable
Recommend a stop at any time.
