Quite a pleasant place. We sat in the big conservatory. Dinning room not open mid week lunch times. Service excellent. Food very nice. We ate fried fish in beer batter and they were quite happy to swap chips for new pots Fish beautifully cooked. It was very quiet but as we were 3 elderly people we didn't mind that. Some things there a bit to chef for us Roast lamb cooked very rare and fresh vegetables not just ale dente. Just under cooked. Still would recommend for a nice meal out.. More...

Great and homely feeling pub, great service and the food is delicious. The prices are a little more than I would pay, however that's not to say they're overpriced. I'm just cheap hahaha.

Great place for a drink and the food is probably the best for pub food in Dereham. Free parking. Dog friendly (dogs in the bar, but not the restaurant). Dan behind the bar is fantastic - such a great sense of humour and very welcoming. More...

Staff very friendly, food was lovely, the only reason I didn't give 5 stars was they didn't offer us a bottle of wine as this would have worked out cheaper than paying by the glass

The food here is excellent. Service is also great and the atmosphere very relaxed yet professional. It is a very old and historic venue so you have to be aware of the limitations that this category of hotel has to deal with. For example there is no double glazing (probably a listed building so not allowed) so rooms can be cold in winter. I didn't find it noisy, though, even though our room faced the street. However, an electric convector heater was provided in our room to compliment the central heating so we were happy with that. The bed was super comfy and we had a lovely night's sleep both nights. The shower left something to be desired as the water pressure is very poor indeed. Also I was disappointed that the only hairdryer was the very old fashioned wall fixture type which, frankly, is useless. I gave up and let my hair go au naturelle otherwise I'd still be there now! A simple modern hairdryer in a drawer is much more usual nowadays and would be preferable. However I was very pleased that an iron and board was provided in the room without asking. It's great that it's a dog friendly hotel and our dog was welcomed fully. The whole place is very pleasing and relaxed and we would definitely stay again. Oh, did I say food is great! Really, good! We went to the polar express train ride which is a 5 min drive away and stayed on this hotel. Highly recommend as very accomdating to families, superb food , beautiful food , very lovely, friendly and helpful staff and lovely rooms with so much character and comfortable nights sleep and all essentials you need. Can't believe it's only rated 3 stars . Will definately be visiting with our 2 girls again .Also must mention how refreshing it is to visit somewhere that can adapt and accommodate vegetarians. We will be back hopefully when we have an excuse to visit Norfolk which is 2 hours away from home . More...

Had a beautiful meal at The George this evening. Had heard about it but never been before, initial thoughts were what a lovely energy the place has, the Staff were very friendly and helpful, Mike and Katie served us and we were very happy with their service. We had the rump Lamb with sauted potatoes and green beans with a red wine sauce. It was presented beautifully and to say it tasted delicious would be an understatement. All in all I would highly recommend The George and look forward to visiting again. More...

Lovely place with beer garden and separate smoking area to keep all customers happy. Wide variety of food, the vegetarian menu is fresh and inventive.
The rooms are reasonably priced, clean and comfy. The road noise can sometimes be noticed but it's not too bad and I believe this is reflected in the pricing of the rooms.
On weekends The George Hotel often arranges for local talent to entertain customers with a good selection of excellent music. It's well worth a visit.
And watch the space of the newest member of staff. He's extremely helpful, friendly and always willing to help without the attitude you so often get from younger staff.
