Wow! This place is unbelievably awesome. Amazing service, excellent food, byob, chill atmosphere. Loved every minute of it. Choice of Chef's Tasting Menu or A La Carte. No menu's, the server will explain the choices for you.Highly recommend the chef's tasting menu. We had egg rolls, curry mussels, steak and rice, Korean fried chicken with potato kimchi, and Singapore noodles. Can't wait to come back and try more! More...
I can't say enough good things about this place! When you factor in the food, ambiance and service this is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. I like to bring a bottle of wine or sake to drink (full BYO) and order the tasting menu. It's plenty of food and offers a full mix of options like noodles, mussels, egg rolls, buns and usually ends with mochi. You won't be disappointed at $50/per. More...
Truly excellent and unique food from a talented chef. Perfect for a date night or special occasion.
Amazing food and fantastic people!
Great small restaurant but hard to spot because of the construction going on and hard to find or no parking spot
The best! Every.Single.Time. Don't know why I ever had this less than 5 stars. Birthdays, special occasions, any regular old night, it is always such a good atmosphere and even better food. Love love love!
Fun atmosphere in a small cozy seating area, BYOB is always a plus, and the food is spectacular. Egg rolls make you say wow. How often does that happen. Great especially for a group outing, but make sure to reserve a table More...
Excellent spot. Don't overlook their catering. People always comment on how much they enjoy the food from here.
The food was amazing and our waitress Jackie made the visit! First time there, but we will definitely be coming back. Great work Chef!
Bento Box. This is a great place for a group dinner - a birthday dinner perhaps with friends and family. We were indeed there for birthday celebrations - and they didn't disappoint. 5 course meal for about $50 or so after tip - which for Chicagoland prices, that's a pretty good deal for all you get. Did I mention it's "bring your own" beverages? An incredibly good egg roll, Korean fried chicken, mussels, noodles with pork belly and chicken, and an ice cream dessert. Trust me, you'll be full. Also, they can cater to any dietary needs - very accommodating. Let's talk ambiance. It's pretty straight forward. An inconspicuous restaurant with an open concept and about 3 tables, this place only seats maybe 30 people max. You can make friends with the tables around you or bring your whole crew and takeover the space. What's even cooler - is that you can take over the music if you ask nicely and really set your own vibe. Big fan of the makeshift environment aspect. This is a solid 4 stars for me. I'd return, and bring new friends to experience this. Great place for out-of-towners to try. More...
This Gem is a MUST!!! First, if you plan on dining here make a reservation. They only have 6 tables so it leaves little for them to accommodate walk ins. Second, BYOB if you plan on having alcohol. They highly recommend it as she told me they want you to leave Drunk, Full and Happy! Third, you do not get a menu, you eat what they serve you and it's shared with all your table mates. Hey, it leaves the opportunity of missing a great dish out of my hands because I get to eat everything!!! Every dish was so flavorful and as they prepared it you could smell the delicious aroma. It makes you anticipate the next dish. The woman who was serving everyone, had such a great personality. She made the experience so much more. Excellent music in the background. I like a little Johnny Cash! The egg rolls were a perfect starter. They are not typical egg rolls as you get hint of peanut butter in them. Next came the mussels in a sweet green curry sauce. This had to be my favorite dish. I was drinking the juice from the serving spoon. She offered to just package it up so I can make something at home with(love it).3 rd course was fried chicken thighs with kimchi mashed potatoes! AMAZING dish! Must be a signature for them. Has a slow burn. Chicken soft and moist. Kimchi potatoes? You can't go wrong!4th course was grilled chicken on Singapore noodles with basil and snow peas. Can you say" I'm so FULL!!" My husband LOVED this dish. Chicken is super moist considering it was grilled. Flavors were out of this world! We took most of this home as my stretch pants had hits its elasticity maximum!Lastly, for desert we had Lychee Mochi! A perfect ending! All of this for $40 per person! Truly an amazing place. Don't pass this place up! More...
This place was soooo amazing! My friend and I went tonight on a whim-no reservations. The waitress was so nice and welcoming. They don’t have a menu which is so cool! They have a tasting menu but we just ordered 3 entrees. They were giant but if you go you have to get all 3!! The mussels were so delicious! It was my first time trying mussels. They were cooked in this curry broth that was so perfect for the colder weather. It really hit the spot! The noodle chicken dish was great and then the crispy chicken dish with sweet potato and kimchi was soooo much flavor. Each dish had little kicks to it and were really outstanding. Food was fresh and we had lots of leftovers. It’s BYOB and I can’t wait to come back with my husband. More...
I love the Beef Bulgogi!I simply love this dish. It has spice and flavor unlike any I have ever tasted. And of course I always get the egg rolls. The dipping sauce makes them. The mussels and Thai sauce are out of this world. Always an amazing meal from Be to Box. I wish the delivery options were super tight as I never feel like the menu is updated on the sites and sometimes the restaurant is offline during hours the restaurant is clearly open. This is a missed opportunity for the restaurant. More...
This place is AMAZING!! Tonight was my first time and I will be coming back. My friend and I ordered 3 entrees to split which was PLENTY of food. We had lots of leftovers. We ordered the mussels which were outstanding!! It was my first time trying mussels and I am so glad this is where I decided to try! The curry sauce/broth they are cooked in is unreal! It was the perfect element on a chilly fall day. The chicken/noodle dish is sooooo good and the Korean chicken with potatoes/kimchi is delicious. Our server was so nice and so welcoming. They don't have a formal menu which I thought was so weird at first but it just fits with the vibe. I HIGHLY recommend if you are looking for authentic, fresh, flavorful Asian food in Chicago. Best Asian restaurant in chicago! The service is outstanding!Chefs menu is the way to go.
We love this place. Bring your favorite bottle of wine to go with dinner.
Sushi night was fun. Liked all three rolls: soft shell crab, hamachi, spicy salmon with kimchi
Found this place on accident because our previous reservation at a different restaurant was not BYOB. We called this place and they said no problem come on in. Love the concept of paying a price and the chef makes dishes for you to enjoy. Made it easier to just eat and by the time we left , we were beyond full. Definitely need to visit this if you're near More...
The food is amazing. Really nothing can compare to it.
Incredible food. I knew it would be good, but better than I even expected.
Definitely a gem in Bucktown, the food is always stellar. I wish there were more variety, but the few things they do, they do very very well.
we really enjoy coming here with our pre selected byob wine. great eats but the best way to eat here is to order the 40 dollar chef's 5 course meal. it includes everything that you want. the owner is the cook. we seriously love this place. More...
We were pleasantly surprised when we stumbled upon this wonderful hole in the wall neighborhoody spot. Most flavorful mussels I have ever had. The food is stellar and the chef accommodated for my husband's pescatarian diet with shrimp substitutions. Also the service feels homy. We will definitely be back, with friends. More...
We loved all the food we tried! Best mussels I've ever eaten, service was good, and love that this is BYOB.
Absolutely superb food and excellent service. Plus, reasonably priced. Go,.enjoy, tell your friends!
Amazing neighborhood spot. Opens Thur Fri and Sat for dinner. Very accommodating of dietary restrictions (pescatarian). We will be back!
JFC. 10 stars. I always wanted to be cremated after death but had no idea what to do with my ashes. Now I know. I want to be cremated and have my ashes placed in a casket, which is filled to the brim with Chef Rick Spiros' Thai Curry sauce. Thank you for your service. Wow.
Stellar BYOB Asian option in Logan square with an intimate and casual vibe. I stumbled upon this place with my girlfriend while trying to find food in Logan, and we were disappointed when they told us the restaurant was booked all night. The following day, we placed a reservation online for four people and picked up some alcohol on the way there. We were blown away with the tasting menu. Everyone at the table agreed that the egg rolls and mussels were the best of either we had ever had. Additionally, this tasting menu actually fills you - we all felt completely satisfied from the meal! Couldn't more highly recommend the tasting menu, because you pretty much get to try everything on the already limited menu. Make sure to get a reservation and don't forget to byob! More...

Intimate, friendly atmosphere, INCREDIBLE FOOD, chef Rick Spiros is genius. Definitely do the multi-course meal
We LOVE LOVE LOVE Bento Box! My husband and I eat there about twice a month. While the menu is small, the food is absolutely delicious. It is BYOB also. Suggest getting a reservation in advance especially for the weekend (although occasionally there are a few seats for walk-ins). Servers and the chef Rick are super nice. Rick accommodates allergies if possible. We feel his chicken dishes are the best we’ve ever had anywhere. Go there ASAP!!! More...
On our entire 4 day trip to Chicago, this was the HIGHLIGHT. We were recommended Bento Box by a friend who used to live in Chicago. Our table did the tasting menu and every single dish was better than the last...how is that possible? The Singapore noodles were my favorite. The korean fried chicken was impeccable and had an unbelievable amount of crunch. We considered going back to BB for dinner every other night of our trip, but figured we should mix up our eats. I love the unassuming nature of BB and will recommend it to EVERYONE I know who is planning a trip to Chicagoland. More...
The food here is great, the Red Chili Chicken Singapore Noodles, are GREAT, I don't normally do spicy, but this was a sweet heat, that was like a spicy party in my mouth. Mmmmm Caliente Fiesta
asian food and the feeling at this location is great. certainly worth a return visit.
One of my fav spots for delicious asian food. Super savory. If it was closer to my home I would be here often.
They told me my food will be ready in 20Minutes and it's already been triple the time. I hate wasting my time, I could've spent that 40+ minutes to do something productive. I just moved across the street, very bad first impression--------Rick the owner reached out and expressed his apologies. Gave them another shot and they delivered! I appreciate the great customer service. Moral of the story, sh*t happens. More...
Bento Box continues to be one of my absolute favorite restaurants and relatively hidden gems in all of Chicago. I threw a surprise birthday party for my husband there three years ago and it was perfect. We were only a dinner party of 10 so not enough to warrant renting the place out. I reached out to BB early and they were happy to make the reservation for us. We were doing the tasting menu and the chef even allowed me to make some requests for my husbands favorite items for that night. On top of that, the BYOB allowed us to bring in a crate of wine and liquor and my brother in law set up in the corner and spent the night as bartender, whipping up cocktails. The food was incredible as always and for our friends who had never been, they had no idea the 5 course meal they just experienced was only $35 a person! We hadn't been back to Bento Box since that fabulous night...until this past Friday for an impromptu date night. They have commercialized a little bit - they take credit cards now, they offer take out and delivery, and they increased their tasting menu to $40 a person. But the BYOB is still free, the venue is still perfectly unassuming, and the food is still absolutely mind blowing. We were thrilled this time to try many dishes we had not had before - hangar steak and Singapore noodles, Korean fried chicken and kimchi potatoes, and my husband's first time with the green curry mussels. Everything was amazing and I'm determined to figure out how to recreate the kimchi potatoes because I've been dreaming about them ever since. You simply can not go wrong with Bento Box but I also hope they always remain a little less famous so they can be one of my personal insights to the city that most don't know about. More...
Absolutely love the Bento Box. The food is delicious, but it's the service that really makes the place unique. I've gotten the tasting menu all four times I've been here and every time Darius, their only server at the restaurant, has surprised me with his level of attention and service. You can't teach that level of kindness and it's what brings me back every time More...
First time to this place and I'll definitely be coming back. The food is fresh, healthy, and super flavorful. Entrees range from $8-11 and big portion sizes. Great staff too!
OMG the food here was delicious! My family had the red chili chicken and the green curry chicken. They were fresh tasting and full of flavor. Delicious! We ordered take out so I cannot comment on the service but the staff were friendly when I went in to place my order and to pick it up. Highly recommended!! More...
Delicious food! Creatively Asian fusion. Attended a private party and it was very well handled and intimate. Also byob. Great service and food was delicious and beautifully plated and served! Great value also!!!
Delicious food and enormous portions! And it BYOB! I was there last weekend for a special occasion with a party of 10 people. The place is very small and they have specific sitting/dining times. The dinner includes a 5 pre-selected course meal and I have to say that I was impressed with every single dish! More...

Just rock that prefixed menu, it's amazing and just great to chill and munch some super innovative Asian!
Some of the best Asian food I've had in Chicago!
Dined for a monthly ethnic BYOB event. Whine the place is very small they do still take walk ins. Manager, chef, waiter all very attractive. We ate there on a Friday and chose the chefs selection option, which is 5 courses for $40. Each course was amazing! Loved their kimchi mashed potatoes and fried chicken with slaw. Everything was the perfect amount of spicey. Will def go back More...
So so Good and great atención ! Definitely I will come back .!!
This review is long overdue. We have lived in the area for 6 years now and have eaten here more times than I can count. Having tried everything on the menu now I have yet to be disappointed . Great spot to bring friends or family to eat as the environment is pretty intimate and easier to talk with your group. I hope this place never changes as it is our favorite restaurant in Chicago. Also, even though we typically dine in, we do order takeout a fairly often as well and the food is still top notch! More...
Love the tasting menu! Definitely one of my favorite places to eat. The service is great and I love the atmosphere.
This my third time at Bento Box and I cannot say how pleased I am. With a limited, rotating menu of Asian fusion fare, I have been surprised and delighted by the bold and inventive flavors. The space is cozy and the prices are spot on. With a BYOB policy, this hidden gem is not to be missed! More...
I was here a few months back for a date night. I can't remember all the dishes we were served (as the coursed meals change frequently), but I do remember that it was ALL fantastic. For $38 per person, this place is an absolute steal. But the sleeper hit for me was the service. There were two guys serving all the tables in the restaurant when we were there - obviously super busy, but they were incredibly attentive despite this. And so friendly! This was really the icing on the cake for us.Make a reservation, BYOB, and get your butt to the Bento Box. You won't regret it. More...
I almost don't want to write a review for this place because it feels like a well kept secret. The food here is some of the best I've had in the area. Everything was prepared perfectly and with a ton of flavor. The menu is very limited but we'll rounded so you should be able to find something that you want to eat. They are also very accommodating for allergies and will alter some dishes to cater specifically to you. The atmosphere is really casual and low key. I wouldn't really recommend this place for big groups since it is tiny inside. Edit- I went back and had another great dining experience. Got the tasting menu and the chef want satisfied with one of the dishes he sent out, so added two more dishes to the tasting menu. Not only did I have a great dinner but plenty of leftovers for an awesome lunch the next day. More...
The food is excellent for me,those are my kind of foods
Absolutely spectacular! It is a cozy and intimate restaurant that seats approximately 20 people total; they have different seating times and let you know ahead of time that they appreciate you only utilize a table for up to two hours; which is understandable. When we went, there were six of us. We each came in with a bottle of wine in tow. PS - extra awesome sauce is that they are BYOB. They were very accommodating with glasses, corkscrews and an ice bucket. The chef came out to greet us and ask if there were any food allergies or aversions since everything is prepared fresh in the kitchen, they can make alterations if needed. Luckily, we are all game for all of it so we did the five course tasting menu, served family style.1st Course: eggrolls - I wasn't excited at all for this until I shoved it in my mouth. It was easily the best egg roll I have ever tasted.2nd Course: green curry mussels - not even exaggerating when I say at least two people at my table drank the remaining sauce out of their bowls3rd Course: Korean fried chicken - it was served over kimchi mashed potatoes. Crazy good!4th Course: Pork Laap - what an incredible combination of spice with a subtle hint of sweetness from the pineapple5th Course: Singapore Noodles - I will say the amount of heat on this dish was a bit much for a few of us at the table, but for the rest of us, it was perfect. They packed leftovers up in individual containers so we could each bring home a little package of love for later! Service was on point. My one and only complaint is that it is cash only, but eh, no biggie! More...
Truly the best darn egg rolls I've ever had in my life!
Great take on Asian food. Bring wine and cash only. Good vibe inside, the servers were really good. Would go back.
Great local place in an intimate setting. Try the tasting menu for the full experience.
Excellent food but they don’t sell drinks and don’t take credit card.

This is a really unique and intimate restaurant. We tried the chef's choice menu for $38/person. In my opinion, it's decently priced for 5 dishes (two full sized, three app style). We loved the Singapore sling noodles and the basil curry mussels, but the oyster sandwiches came out really soggy and the spicy corn elote was chewy and overdone. Overall though a great experience with a friendly and attentive server. The food came out fast and hot and we will be back! More...
I mean...this was just really, really good. Get the tasting menu. It's 5 courses, a lot of food, everything i sextremely flavorful, and the service is polite and fantastic. It's BYO (ya!) and cash only (nay, but what can you do?). You feel like you get your money's worth at $38/pp. More...

The beautiful Chef promised me he would make Beef Bulgogi this week. I can tell you it was all I thought about until I saw it appear on the menu. He did not disappoint! I simply love this dish. After many years of wanting to visit this place, I finally got the chance. My wife's boss hosted a private birthday party there and we were treated to a 5-course meal. **Warning** all of their dishes have some spice to them. Started off with pork and cabbage eggrolls, followed by asian fusion tacos, korean fried chicken with sweet potatoes, pork belly panang curry, and singapore noodles. All of the dishes were very flavorful and the spiciness did not overwhelm the flavors. My favorite dishes were the curry dish and the korean fried chicken!!! I am kicking myself for waiting so long to visit the Bento Box. this place is not in my restaurant rotation. More...
We love love love this spot! Definitely get a reservation a week or more before if going on a Fri or Sat. Small restaurant with only two seatings and they will turn you away if they are booked even if it looks like seats are avail. The food is just delicious. It is BYOB and reasonably priced, but cash only. The Singapore chicken is wonderful, as is the green curry chicken. Servers and chef are very nice. We go there at least twice a month and think it is one of the best restaurants in Chicago. Definitely check it out either to dine in or order delivery or pick up. More...
Two of us got the 5 course tasting menu and were so stuffed by the time the last dish (Singapore noodles) was served we had to take most of it home - our super friendly and accommodating server, Jesse, offered to wrap it up for us. It was still amazing the next day.Hard to pick favorites...but the Korean fried chicken was ridiculous. Best cooked chicken I've had in years, paired with kimchi mashed potatoes and asian slaw, absolute perfect setup. The Green curry mussels were SO GOOD we couldn't help ourselves from eating the sauce like soup after we finished everything else in the bowl.Rick + the staff place so much importance on the cooking process and the quality of each ingredient, you can really taste the difference. Everything was so fresh and flavorful.Beyond pleased with my experience here. My only regret is not checking it out sooner!10/10 would eat again More...
This place is a gem, but not hidden as I'm under the impression it's fairly popular. It's a tiny spot with maybe 6 tables -- I highly encourage to get a reservation. It's cash only and BYOB. The menu is very small; all written on a chalk board. I think certain menu items are consistently there while everything else rotates. Like everyone else, I got the Singapore chicken noodles (can't recall exact name) and it's freaking amazing. I normally never eat chicken when I eat out because I find the meat itself to be flavorless, but they knock it out here. It's nicely charred but not dry! The service is really good too! Again, it's a small restaurant, but they hustle with their service. Very attentive! Another interesting point to mention is that the kitchen appears to be very flexible with ordering (assuming they have everything necessary) I hope to try that out next time when I feel more creative! More...
It was truly an amazing meal. We ordered 1 of everything!
Really really good food. And amazing BYOB. I wish I could give 4.5 stars because our only issues were that we really wanted sushi and didn't realize that it's only served on weekends. .. there are literally only 6 dishes on the menu. And that we had to go find an ATM because that's a lot of cash to carry. But food was so good - pork/cabbage egg rolls, Singapore noodles, and Bulgogi bibimap. I'd go back! More...

Thanks Bento Box and Chef Spiros for another yummy successful party. Delicious as usual. Having a party with you guys makes us happy hosts!
Excellent food but they don’t sell drinks and don’t take credit card.
Great local place in an intimate setting. Try the tasting menu for the full experience.
This is an interesting restaurant. For starters, it's really small. We had a party of 5 and I felt like that was the largest party size you could bring in here. It's also cash only, but the prices here are pretty high. Expect to shell out $22-$50/person. Yes, that's a lot of cash to carry around in an era that's increasingly going cash free. The food here is classified as Asian fusion but I felt like it was Asian-y enough for my tastes that I liked it. We got the tasting menu for $38/person for the table (except 1 person who got ramen).1) Pork and cabbage eggrolls. I actually think this might have been my favorite dish. They used some sort of spicy cabbage (kimchi?) in the eggrolls and it was perfectly fried. It went well with the orange sauce.2) Green curry mussels. WELL, everyone else at the table got this but I told the waiter I can't eat seafood, so he gave me green curry chicken instead. It was tasty. The curry was delicious and the chicken was juicy.3) Chili chicken wings. This reminded me of bonchon Korean fried chicken. It was tasty, but not really that unique. It was a little on the sweet side. Thank goodness it was not drowning in sauce. I would have been upset.4) Fried rice. I was a little disappointed in this dish. It was a little spicy, sure, but nothing too special. They also had chicken in this dish, and I already just had chicken, so I wasn't totally feeling it.5) Singaporean fried noodles. This dish was tasty but it was the last course and I was already feeling pretty full. Maybe they should have started with this so I would have eaten this on an emptier stomach. This dish size was huge. Once again, it had the chicken, which was fine, but I was getting a little tired of chicken at this point. I thought the flavors of the Singaporean noodles were good, a little spicy, tangy, but I think in general I don't really like Singaporean noodles all that much (as a whole) so I wasn't super in love with this dish. Their variation of the dish was more on the saucy/soggier side. I actually like my noodles to be a bit on the crunchier side (bird's nest?)Ramen: my friend opted for the ramen. The broth was incredibly rich and fatty. It was dubbed a 48 hour broth so you can imagine it simmering for awhile. She loved the pork meat. I only tried the broth but thought it was tasty. $20 for a bowl of ramen is pretty steep though. They put water vases on the table but they don't refill your water for you. This place is also BYOB.I like this place enough that I would come back. Service is friendly and the food is good. However, I'm a little irked that this place is cash only considering how expensive these entrees are though. I also thought overall, the food was indeed tasty, but I think it's a little overpriced given the quality/portion sizes. With tax and tip it was about $48/person for the tasting menu. More...

Yummmm. Bento Box is great. It's definitely a small hole in the wall type of place. We live in Bucktown so sometimes we walk there. We got the Singaporean noodles- no regrets here. It's a little sweet and tangy with a lot of veggies in it to keep that good balance. I've always gotten take out and they wrap everything well and clean. I guess the only reason why I gave this place 4 stars is because it's a bit pricey. But they do give huge portions! Oh also, their menu changes every weekend so you have to look on their website. Which is really an interesting concept if you think about it. But the Singaporean noodles are usually there! More...
I didn't get to take a picture because it smelled too good. This is the BEST Singapore noodles I've ever had. Everything was perfect. LOVE! Four of us had the 5 course tasting menu. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.Pork Laap and Singapore Chicken is my new favorite thing. Do yourself a favor, grab three of your friends, some booze and just do the tasting menu. It is plenty of food for four to share, with leftovers, and you get a great selection of wonderful flavors. It's served family style, in a small room, casual, chill environment. The menu changes depending on the season or what's available. The chef hung out with us. It was magnificent. It wasn't that expensive, either.BYOB and cash only and I MUST RETURN!!!!!!!!!!! I love this restaurant. More...
Bento Box is really good. Food is delicious, salmon in particular. The place is small so I prefer take-out.
The place looks modest from outside, and has limited seating, but the service and the food elevate the entire experience to another level. The lighting is just romantic enough and still great for a small group of friends. The place is BYOB, and cash only, and they change their menu every day. We ate the mussels in green curry and the chilli chicken Singapore noodles. Both of their dishes were prepared to perfection, although I must note that the green curry was closer to pesto in flavor. The ingredients were fresh and we had some leftovers to take home with us. Definitely try this place out. We will be going back. More...

Such amazing food! A very small restaurant but well worth a visit. The menu is small, so they can focus on really creating deliciousness in every bite. Yesterday, for a birthday dinner, my boyfriend and I tried the tasting menu consisting of pork & cabbage eggrolls, absolutely delicious green curry mussels (I swear I would've been so happy with a bowl of rice to add to the rest of the sauce just so I could lap it all up), bulgogi tacos, pork belly panang curry and finally the besttttt (and their signature dish) grilled/charred chicken singapore noodles. SO DAMN DELICIOUS. The portions were so perfect for the tasting menu, I'd def recommend doing that for your first visit! Key things to remember: small restaurant so on the weekends you need a reservation. Cash Only. BYOB. More...
Easily my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. Must get the tasting menu. It's a lot of food but everything is SO good. I'm usually not a fan of mussels but these mussels are something special. They've changed the menu since my first trip here but the last time I was in they made a special appetizer that I requested from the first time. I'm not sure what it was called but it was some sort of fried chicken dish with a sweet chili sauce on top. The Singapore noodles are a crowd favorite and I would have to agree. I've been back multiple times since my first trip and the experience has been great every time! I recommend it to everyone that asks for suggestions in the neighborhood! Thanks for the delicious food and great service, Bento Box!! More...
The Singapore Noodle dish is one of my favorite dishes ever eaten. I live in the neighborhood, and this place is a gem! BYOB, good service, and outstanding food. Cash only.
Very good flavors, but I wished the fives course pricing fix meal had a dessert. It was more so five different dishes rather than courses.
Love this spot! Singapore noodles favorite noodle dish ever.
Asian Fusion can either be delicious or an embarrassing disaster (anybody remember #Phogate?). The Bento Box is spot on. FOOD:Singapore noodles: super delicious with a careful layering of flavors that is neither too sweet, salty, spicy, nor sour.Green Curry Mussels: a plentiful appetizer that comes with thick garlic bread to sop up all the briny, aromatic curry at the bottom. VALUE:For weeknight takeout, it's a bit on the pricier side at first glance, but it comes with SO much food that it's practically two meals. Also, if you're dining in it's BYOB, so that should offset the final cost quite a bit and bring its value up.SPACE:It's a tiny, tiny space, so be sure to make reservations! Their service is wonderful as a result of the small space. The chef can be seen pounding away at the curry paste with the mortar and pestle, signaling that he gives more than a modicum of respect for the traditional methods of Asian cooking. The Bento Box has a definite regular cadence in my cycle of neighborhood eats, and I hope it never goes away.P.S. The Bento Box is such an odd name. Isn't it roughly translated to "The lunch box box"? Y'all aren't even open for lunch (smart since there are hardly any businesses around). More...
Such amazing food! And, I have a sesame allergy- we ordered delivery, they accidentally put sesame seeds on top, without hesitation they sent a new order. Seriously, best food and great people. It's not often I can have asian food due to my allergy, they were so accommodating. Thanks Bento Box. More...
You are missing out if you have never had the Singapore street noodles. They are life changing. Great local spot. Cash only. Great service! BYOB if you know what's good. Portion size def. large enough to share. Highly recommend!!!! More...
I usually never comment on restaurants and I admit I was confused at first by the name--but the waitress was very knowledgeable in explaining the origin of the restaurant and how it came to be called The Bento Box. That being said if you judge a book by its cover, don't bother coming and leaving bad reviews. This place had amazing food. Exceptional quality and service, and the type of food that makes you appreciate Asian fusion. There's a reason why this place is packed on the weekends, and people who complain about a place like this obviously have no idea wtf they're talking about. From the chili chicken Singapore noodles to the mussels and egg rolls, and larb with sticky rice, EVERYTHING was on point. Food was prepared with care and consideration, and I hope it never changes. I almost never go to restaurants where I have this kind of experience with absolutely no complaints, and this place was what I needed to reinforce my belief in Asian fusion. So fucking good. I'll be back can't wait to try the sampler 5 dish course next time If you're on the fence, jump off and go get you some damn good food More...
Delish! Thanks Chef for accommodating us with no reso on a Saturday. My sister loved it..... Everything is prepared with love and the dishes are so damn delectable! The staff is always lovely as well. Try if you have not yet. Thanks Again :-) More...

all the yummy & BYOB! food & service cant be beat in an overly-expensive neighborhood.
Wonderful food with a lot of flavor and spice to it. The wings are crunchy, sweet and spicy too.We got the tasting menu and we got the appetizers pretty much together. They got cold since we could not keep up with the quality so we had to waste them. They slowed down the next course but not the finally one we had to just box and take home. I bet it was really good when it was hot. So come hungry and eat fast to keep up with their timing. More...
Basically, bento box is amazing. I could rave about their food, but that's a completely valid assumption you should have. Their service is just as good as their food . But please, let me elaborate about that. Second time at bento box, and it never disappoints. What was particularly great about this time though was perhaps the fact that while making my reservations, I told them I had a shellfish allergy. No problem she said. However, when we got there, turns out one of the dishes was oysters. Without even asking, she brought me out my own mini dish of tempura mushrooms. It was excellent service and hospitality on every level. General tips: Call for a reservation. Do the tasting menu. You won't find a better deal. CASH ONLY. And BYOB. No corking fee. I can't recommend this place enough. More...

The food was amazing and it's BYOB...can't ask for more than that!
The food was incredible, especially the Singapore noodles and the Thai chicken wings. Would be a solid 5 stars if the place wasn't such a pain to get into- I had to call a week in advance to finally get a Friday night reservation, and it was still on the early side of the night.
This place is such a gem. The green curry mussels is one of the most delicious dishes I've ever had, but everything on the tiny menu is fantastic. Service is always friendly and it's BYOB. It's a wonderful little date spot and I'm so glad it exists. More...
The Bento Box is delicious and fun for a small group or a date! The restaurant is tiny so make a reservation or go early! It is worth waiting if you have to (there are a few bars down the street) . The best part of Bento Box is that it is BYOB! Everything on the menu is delicious. Especially my all time favorite dish, green curry mussels. Egg rolls and red chili noodles are also amazing but beware they are very spicy! A little spice for me is okay but this is more than a little. It is worth it though! The pricing is just right and the experience is one of my favorites. More...

The Bento Box isn't a bento box place at all!lol! Theres a small but intriguing menu written on a chalkboard wall. It's a tiny restaurant. We tried the green curry mussels and the bulgogi bibimbop- scrumptious! Ironically the bountiful bowl of mussels cost less than the bibimbop. Cash only! Will definitely come back again! More...
Wonderfully intimate, yet casual dining option; a true standout. I've been coming here (and bringing others to partake) for years, and never once have we walked away disappointed. The food is exceptional, props to the chef, and the service makes you feel like a welcome guest at a friend's dinner party. Come check this place out. More...
Homemade egg rolls, basil noodles w/ grilled chicken, and korean beef stew were all incredible.
Wow! One of the most delicious dinners I have had in awhile! I have had this place bookmarked for quite some time and decided to finally make a trip out to this 4. 5 star restaurant! Upon walking in, I was quite disappointed. Seating is VERY limited and it was crazy cold inside! Luckily my date and I was able to be seated right away. The waitress was very nice and told us the portions were very big. As other yelpers have said, the menu is different daily but we checked their facebook page to kind of get an idea of what we were going to order. We ordered the chili chicken singapore noodles and the duck red curry. When we first got our order of the duck red curry, they gave us just a small bowl. Big portions?! I think not! I was so sad and felt betrayed by yelp and probably being a little too dramatic... but wow! the dish was so delicious and with the rice and other dish, was so filling and more than enough to eat! Our next dish was hands down the most delicious dish ever. The singapore noodles were so flavorful we could not stop eating it even though we were so full. My date rarely likes to go back to the same spots in Chicago but he said he would definitely come back for this! They offer a 5 course tasting menu for $38/person. I will definitely have to come and try this :) yay!Besides the limited seating, the other downside is that it's cash only.. but it's totally worth it. I would come back here in a heartbeat!! (unless.. snow and chicago traffic and limited seating and no cash. haha) More...
We've been coming to Bento Box for a few years now and I keep telling everyone it's one of my top 3 favorite restaurants in the city. Chef Rick does an amazing job with each dish - the flavors he puts together are simply unmatched anywhere else. Everything on the menu is delicious, and you cannot go wrong with any of your choices, but you would be doing yourself a disservice if you do not order the Red Chili Chicken Singapore Noodles on your first visit. We (or Chef Rick, I should say) have gotten multiple people legitimately addicted to it; like, can't go a month without eating it...and don't worry, you'll be back numerous times to try the other rotating dishes Chef puts on the menu. Great restaurant and great staff, we'll continue visiting this cozy spot for a long time to come! More...
Very delicious! Always fresh! The best Singapore noodles of my life
Went here for the tasting menu and was completely blown away. The food is incredible. I think we had 5 courses for $38. Incredible value and quality for the money. Everything was delicious and made in-house. The place is BYOB also which was always fun. This spot is a 5 star experience and excellent asian fusion food. Can't wait to go back and eat there again. Absolutely f*ing fantastic! If you haven't been here, you must go.

I'm definitely not a foodie so I don't know how to give a rave or sophisticated review but I can tell you the chef at this place simply gets it. A menu with great choices but it's not over done and not over thought. If you're a fan of kimchi run to this place, don't walk. I've tried everything on this menu and the pork/cabbage rolls stand out as well. Fresh ingredients, intimate yet fun setting make this place a must. More...
Been meaning to go here for a while. The sampler last night was a selection of 5 of their dishes, each outstanding! Yum!
Yep, I'm going back. Fresh food, nice vibe, a giant portion,... if you like asian come here for sure.
Probably my favorite restaurant in Chicago! Everything here is good. Trust me. You can't go wrong.
My favorite restaurant in Chicago. Hands down. And we visited all the top rated restaurants around. Customer service was great! The noodles & curry were off the charts. Flavor & presentation were phenomenal. I couldn't get enough of the food! Luckily they were large portions, so we have some to take back to the hotel trendy modern ambiance for a hole in the wall restaurant. Worth the drive! Try this spot. More...
This place is a gem!!! Cant say enough good things about it. Been there several times and if i could go every week, i would. We always get the tasting menu and have never been disappointed. Food is simply delicious. You can taste the fresh ingredients. Service is great, too. Plus its BYOB - can't beat that. My favorites are mussels and egg rolls. And the singapore noodles. Divine!! The pork belly noodles alone are worth going for, but expect long lines and "meh" service on the weekends.I'm pretty sure you'll need to stop at the ATM, too, as Bento Box no longer accepts cards. (Yeah, I know -- this really sucks when you're traveling.) More...
The food here is quite tasty and unique. The portions are also very generous. The Singapore noodles were my favorite. I also had the steak Bi Bom Bop which was good, but not as flavorful as the other dish. Additionally, the service is very friendly and it's BYOB.The only watch out is they are cash only and the dishes do run on the pricier side. More...
Pint sized eatery with Daily Menus that will knock your socks off. BYOB, with a Walgreens nearby. Don't miss the small store front driving like we did. Street parking available. It is a little on the pricy side, worth it, but it's cash only so come prepared. More...
Great food, reasonable prices, byob. Do the tasting menu.

Have been eating Chef Spiros food for a while now, dating back to his Madam B days with Dirk Flannigan. This guy is serious about his Asian food. ... Consistently good food and service. A bit pricey, but fair for stellar preparation and quality.
Went with a bunch of people and the chef just kept bringing course after course of pure deliciousness. I loved not having to make any decisions (other than how to politely take the last helping off the generous trays). Totally fun night - can't wait to go back. More...
It's a disgrace that I am just now getting to review this place because it's seemingly becoming an integral part of my weekly diet. You need to know a few things up front: it's a small storefront, BYOB, cash only, and just a completely casual dining experience with high-end food. I love all of these things about Bento Box. My style is shorts, shirt, and flip-flops coupled with wine and orgasmic food flavors. You can do that here.If it's a first time visit, I recommend the bargain tasting menu at $35/person. Now that I'm something of a regular, my usual order includes the pork/cabbage egg rolls, sometimes the mussels, and any of these: the Singapore chili noodles, the bi bim bop, and lately, the pork belly vindaloo. The menu changes daily, but there are usually a few staples. It really depends on the availability of ingredients. They also have carry out if you're tired of the usual pizza, sushi, or Thai showing up at your doorstep.Do yourself a favor and go here; it's definitely in the top 5 of Bucktown's best food spots...probably even top 3. More...
We had the five course dinner. Everything was superb! Started with cabbage and pork egg rolls - very good, but I don't expect too much from egg rolls, they just take the edge off. Then we had the mussels in green curry sauce. They were big, juicy and tasty. I got to devour Nancy's portion too, because she is cautious around shell fish. We then were treated to chicken wings that were in a marvelous sauce. The pork belly dish was wonderful - with the meat being just juicy enough. We finished with a noodle dish that I can't remember what chef Rick calls, but it was oh so good. The noodles were slightly crunchy and delightful. I can't visit Chicago without visiting the Bento Box! More...
This small place in Bucktown is fantastic! -Food was excellent-Great BYOB-Don't let the term "tasting menu" fool you. Portions are not small (not too big either)-An amazing menu that changes often-Service is the best, very attentive and friendly-Remember cash only (no worries, two ATM's near the restaurant)-I noticed that they have cooking classes-The place is cozy and seats a total of 22 +/--I asked about renting the entire restaurant for a dinner party. . .Yes they do!

I cannot say enough good things about this place. Hands down the best Asian food, dare I say just food in general, that I've ever had. The red chili chicken noodles are fantastic, the egg rolls are insane and the bi bim bop will rock your world. Cash only, but I've since gotten over it, it's worth it! More...
Most excellent meal, well balanced and thoughtful. Delicious mussels and curry. Nice body buzz that one gets after many courses of delicious entrees that compliment each other. Awesome!
The best restaurant I have been to in Chicago. $35 for a 5 course tasting menu. Nothing tasting size about it. We are talking huge portions. Note I also do not subscribe to the Chicago belief that huge portions automatically gets credit for being good food. But in this case it was both outstanding food and massive portions. Everything is homemade and cooked to order. The waitress/hostess was extremely friendly and genuinely wanted to ensure that everyone was happy with each thing that are. Great for either a date night or a small group hoping to Byob and relax. The meal- everything was a 5Pork egg rollsGreen curry mussels Pork belly and potatoes in spicy peanut sauce with riceCrab and shrimp sushi rollSingapore noodles with chicken More...

Best little secret in Bucktown! Thank you Chef Rick~
Every visit to Bento Box has exceeded my expectations. Excellent food, terrific service, byob w no cork fee. Unique dishes and the staff makes you feel at home- very intimate dining experience with less than 20 seats in the restaurant. All of this and more is why I continue to come back to Bento Box as often as possible. Take note they are CASH only. The food: get the egg rolls- they're the best I've ever had. I'm also a fan of the Singapore chicken, the portion is huge and even when I split with my boyfriend we have some to take home. Those two are the only items I've noticed that are almost guaranteed to be on the menu. They switch up the other items a lot but often repeat. I believe they post the current menu on FB before the night but I like the surprise of a new and different menu when I show up! I recently did the tasting (5 courses for 35 a person) and it was PHENOMENAL. I have never been disappointed by a meal here and it continues to outrank all the restaurants I've explored in the city. Even better, it is only a stones throw away from the Map Room for a great beer after a fantastic meal. More...

Amazing! Singapore noodle dish was a hit as well as the green lipped mussels appetizer. Oh I can taste it now!!Be sure to grab $$as its cash only. BYOB too!
Myself and 2 friends were able to sneak in last night (Friday) around 7, though everyone else had a reservation. This place is not near any other restaurants and is very small with room for only 20 or so guests. Every night is a new menu and we decided to do the tasting menu. Started with amazing pork egg rolls, then mussels that were so good, my friend Elliot drank the juice from the bowl. Then we had pork belly and rice tacos which I ate in all of 15 seconds. Then a steak dish that I wish were bigger and finally a Singapore noodle and chicken dish. It was also great and came with some signature hot sauce to compliment the already spicy dish. The food is amazing on its own and for $35 is one of the best values out there. I love the setting and interaction with the staff who are all very knowledgable and friendly. Can't say enough about this hidden gem in northwest Bucktown. More...
Phenomenal.Came for an 8:30 date night with husband. We both had heard a lot of great things about The Bento Box, so we opted for the chef's tasting menu to get a better feel for the dishes they currently offer. Portion sizes were HUGE making the tasting menu's $35 price tag beyond fair. We were stuffed and still took home leftovers.Included in our tasting menu (the menu changes):- Pork & Cabbage Egg Rolls- Mussels in Lime Leaf Curry with Thai Basil Garlic Bread- Spicy Beef Bulgogi Tacos- Thai Red Curry with Pork Belly and Pineapple- Red Chili Chicken Singapore Noodles with Thai BasilThere were no weak dishes of the group and it's tough to pick a favorite. For me, the highlights were the mussels (perfectly cooked) and red curry (delightfully spicy). In contrast to other reviews, our service was excellent -- attentive and friendly by our waitress and busser lady -- and it never felt as though they were helicoptering or rushing us out the door. Our 8:30 reservation was the last of the evening and there was not a private party scheduled after, which likely helped. The restaurant is smaller in size and does fill up; would recommend for a date night or small group.Assuming future service and food quality are on par with last night's experience, The Bento Box has favorite neighborhood restaurant potential. We'll be back. And soon! More...

Food is delicious. I dream of Singapore noodles. The only down side is the service is pretty lacking and at times down right rude. We walked in at opening time, were told that basically all tables were reserved starting in about a half hour. The hostess said "I guess you can eat if you eat fast." We were begrudgingly seated and were rushed ( btw no one else is in the restaurant.) Then eventually some parties started to trickle in as we were nearing the end of our meal. No checking in to see if we needed anything, didn't refill the water. This was all about 20 minutes later than the time we were told the place would be at capacity. Then to top it all off, when about half of the restaurant was full with "reservations" and we had finished our meal, the server said "oh, I guess you can stay now if you want." Unprofessional over all, and will ensure carry out dining in the future. More...
Definetely a hidden gem hehe! Quaint atmosphere, lovely staff. The menu changes daily with authentic, locally grown foods. It's a small, quaint space, and the menu is quite limited; but everything sounded/looked great. A friend and I split the egg rolls and the red chili chicken Singapore noodles, which were both phenomenal. The chicken dish could have fed four of us. Great place, best mussels I ever had, Thai curry flavor. The Singapore noodles with chicken is addictively good. Going to go back to try a few of their other dishes, but the first visit was a great experience. And the service was wonderful.
Such a surprise to have come across this quaint spot, love the byob policy to compliment their ever-changing menu. It is not run of the mill asian food, always spectacular.
The food: 4/5. We ordered pork spring rolls, Red Chili Chicken Singapore Noodles with Thai Basil and Grilled Scottish Salmon with Tempura Mushrooms. Pork spring rolls came as a set of 2 and were very flavorful, albeit a little greasy. The Scottish salmon was cooked to perfection, but the fillet was on the smaller side and the tempura mushrooms were mediocre. The red chilli chicken Singapore noodles was the most disappointing dish. It came as a huge portion, but it was all noodles and barely any chicken. The little chicken in it was tender and flavorful, but had skin on and was very fatty. We took left over noodles which lasted us another 2 meals, but would I pay $22 again for basic noodles and little chicken? I think not. The service: 2.5/5. When we made the reservations, they said we only had an hour and a half because they were closing for a private party. On the off chance we showed up 40 minutes earlier and were seated right away. Although we finished our meal in an hour, there was an entire bottle of sake for us to finish, but we were getting dirty looks from the hostess waiting for us to leave. We also got zero explanation of the menu when ordering. The first greeting we got was the question "what would you like to order?". Overall: 3.5/5. It's a more contemporary spin on East Asian food, but there is absolutely nothing Japanese about the Bento Box. A little overpriced, but the food is enjoyable, even though it's not on my short list of places to go back to. More...

Went here the other night. The food is great, we had the Beef Bulgogi and the Singapore noodles. Is it worth $22 per entree? I'm not sure. I think around $16-18 would be more reasonable, although their serving sizes were large. Based on Yelp's standard of $$ meaning $11-30/person, it's accurate. But, usually this means there will be a few entree's below $20 in my experience. But, there were only 3 menu options, all over $20. Appetizers were either $8 and $12 on the night I went. The place is very small, probably 6-7 tables with their daily menu in chalk on the wall, so you won't really know what they're serving until you show up. Service was fine, but the food took 30-35 minutes to arrive despite having 1-2 tables open. Definitely a good idea to BYOB to pass that time. More...
I live right down the street and it took me almost 2 years to finally come, but now that I've been I'll be back for sure! Great food, great service, BYO, tiny spot ... what's not to love? One my favorite places in the city. Great chef, food and service
This restaurant is one of the main things I regret about moving away from Chicago! After nearly 30 years of disliking anything with curry (even after spending 2 weeks in India), a curry dish at this place opened up a whole new world of food for me and my husband. I think it was a coconut curry with sweet potato and the chapati that did the trick. The Singapore noodles and the bi bim bap are my favorites, and the hostess and chef are so friendly! The space is small, clean, and comfy. It's also closed three days a week, so make sure to check the hours before you go. We loved Bento Box so much we asked the chef to cook a few meals a week for us after our first baby was born. My husband and I got to focus more on our baby boy, and less on meal planning and preparation, and our son got to eat some of the tastiest food when he first started eating solids. The ingredients were always fresh and Rick was great to work with. His food was delicious, and put to shame most of the other home cooked meals I've eaten since. The more I write about this, the more I miss being able to just run down the street and get take-out from the Bento Box. More...
The food is life changing. And Rick the Chef is a Master of this cuisine. The Manager Rachel is the best! So says her Dad.
My favorite restaurant, bar none, when in Chicago visiting my daughters
Had a wonderful Friday night experience at Bento Box. I ordered Spicy Singapore Noodles with Chicken and it was wonderful - soft but crunchy noodles with a nice and mild spice to them. My wife had the Korean Beef Bi Bim Bop, which was also quite tasty. Both meals were rather generous portions, and with the cozy, intimate setting and kind staff, we will be back.BYOB (no corking fee); reservation recommended; cash only; menu changes daily. More...
I have eaten at Bento Box twice now and both times were fantastic experiences. Every menu item has been above and beyond my expectations. As some of the other yelpers have mentioned, it is very small. I, however, find that to be part of its charm. It is BYOB and cash only as well. Love this place! More...
Had an excellent family style meal here with another foodie couple who had highly recommended this place. It is definitely a small and cozy space, so make reservations ahead of time to ensure a spot. The menu changes daily, so there's a nice variety of dishes and the availability is always changing. The advantage of eating family style is the chef chooses the menu items for the table, so there can be a mix of what's on the menu as well as a dish off menu. You can also request specific menu items you want to try. The flavors and ingredients are fresh and complex. I typically don't like spicy and my mouth was on fire for several of the courses, but it was worth it! My favorite dish was the Red Chili Chicken Singapore Noodles with Thai Basil. Food presentation was amazing. It was a lot of food per course, but we were able to split the leftovers to take home. Just don't forget to bring cash and booze since it's BYOB. More...
One of best top meals of my life! Incredibly inventive, freshest ingredients, generous portions. Curried mussels to die for! Worth trip from whatever you are. Inviting atmosphere, Cozy, intimate friendly. menu changes daily, BYOB. Bring group to try everything or go alone relax & enjoy.. Great music. Be sure to make ressie. More...
The short menu here is a mix of Asian cuisine: Japanese, Indian, Malaysian, etc. The ingredients were incredibly fresh and flavorful. We had the Singapore Street Noodles which was very flavorful with fresh basil, although I would have preferred the dish a bit more spicy. The Lamb Rogan Josh was outstanding and happily it did have a bit more heat! It's also BYOB with no corkage fee which makes it the perfect neighborhood spot!Make sure to call ahead for a table as it fills up pretty quickly. More...
This place is a rare gem. It's about as big as a Bento Box, but man, what great food AND service. Do NOT miss the fried chicken, even if you order it as something extra for the table. And if you get the mussels, order extra toasted bread up front. It's BYOB but if you're not prepared, Evolution Wines and Spirits is close. More...
First off, let me say I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. But here's what you need to know about this place before going.-Very small . Seats about 22. Best to call ahead to see if there's a wait.-BYOB with no corkage fee!-Changing menu with probably about 4 entrees and 2 appetizers listed at a time. They do run out of items.-There is no bento box at this place! Apparently, they tried it and it didn't work, but the owner kept the name. Also when we went, there were no dishes that were Japanese which is also deceiving. Items listed when we were there were korean bi bim bop, korean beef bulgogi, tandoori chicken, green curry mussels, and egg rolls.-CASH ONLY!-Price: entrees are $20-25 dollars. More...
I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to The Bento Box and will be back very soon! This place is small but cozy with probably less than 20 seats. The menu is displayed on a chalkboard and its byob, yay! We really enjoyed the spicy tuna tempura rolls, tandoori chicken, and red chili chicken Singapore noodles. Service was good, food was amazing, I will be keeping an eye on the ever changing menu. More...
This place is worth the drive from wherever you are from! Wisconsin, Indiana or far suburbs. Bring a bottle of wine and just enjoy the delicious, cooked to perfection Asian cooking. Had the Chicken Singapore noodles and Curry Mussels.(large portions) Great service as well. This place is always crowded, therefore I suggest making a reservation. Highly recommend! More...
It's hard to stand out in a neighborhood replete with quality BYOB eateries, but after two years living in Bucktown I'm ashamed for not having eaten here sooner. This has to be the best eats for not too much money in the entire city. Perfect balance of heat and savory and sweet in the Red Chili Singapore Noodle bowl. I want to inhale this food instead of oxygen. Get your butt over here and enjoy the night! More...
Insanely delicious. Great food, good people, and great atmosphere. I would recommend following the chef's menu where they cook for larger groups and have a bit more freedom with what direction they go in. Highly recommended!
Singapore noodle is my favorite. Very tasty and the portion is good. Better make reservation for dinner during weekend. It's not completely asian dish, more of a asian fusion. I take of one star because of the price is a little high for what it is. More...
Amazing variety of foods that were delicious!
OMG sooo good! They have super small menu just written up on a chalkboard that they told us can change daily based on what fresh ingredients the chef is able to find. There were 3 of us and we tried 3 dishes, we were so stuffed but wished we could have tried more! Everything we had was so delicious! Service was also really great, really nice waitress who chatted with us and told us about the restaurant. The chef also came out and spoke to us for a little while! Totally a hidden gem, such a nice place is not what I expected from walking by it everyday. So glad I gave it a try! More...
They made separately for my mom and I gluten free dishes. It was awesome to be able to eat a wonderful meal, without worrying about what's in it that could possibly make me sick later! Very cool atmosphere, and the Chef is a super cool dude! More...
This place is amazing. We went here with a group of friends and had the family style chef's choice. Everything was so amazing. The restaurant is really quaint and the staff is so nice! We will definitely be going again soon. More...
Quite possibly the nicest, most delicious food I've tasted in this neighbourhood. Great atmosphere, fantastic staff, can't praise it enough. Reasonably priced, great portion sizes, byob! Definitely going to be a regular customer. I had the bulgogi beef and rice, so many levels of flavour! We also had the Singapore noodles.....amazing! Can't wait to go back More...
Right off the bat Bento Box started strong - friendly welcome from the staff, good atmosphere, music at a conversational volume. Drink orders/BYOB assistance was immediate and helpful. Then the menu was described. Everything sounded delicious and because there were four of us I got at least a bite of most things. Had both the mussels and egg rolls to start, then bison on green tea soba noodles, Korean fried chicken, pork noodles and beef bulgogi. Everything was amazing. Definitely a new favorite place in the neighborhood. Reasonably priced too for the quality and service. Get a reservation and get there soon! More...

First time at Bento Box. We went on a double date to celebrate, and indeed we did! We did multi-course predetermined by the brilliant chef. I have had amazing food experiences in my life; and this one is at the top of that list! The flavors were incredible! I never wanted the meal to end. A dining experience I will never forget. First time, definitely not the last. Next time we are in Chicago... What a talented chef, with an amazing gift. Thank you Rck Spiros! More...
Love this place. It is around the corner and went twice this week. The Singapore noodles are great with pork or chicken. Try the family style stuff when ordering. Jackie is great and yes you should make a resi More...
This restaurant is the epitome of fresh. They shop for their ingredients everyday, and you will taste in during your meal. Each night there are only 4-5 entrees on the menu for this reason but do not despise because every option is delicious. The staff is super friendly and accommodating, also BYOB and cash only fyi! The perfect neighborhood restaurant. Not fancy or flash, not overly stuffy, not overly expensive, though not cheap either; but everything is at a level of quality and excellence that should be what every eatery, large and small, should strive for. A brief menu rotates often with a variety of asian flavors. SIngapore noodles are absolutely fantastic. More...
Loved this restaurant! It is BYOB and cash only FYI. Try the mussels, they are by far the best appetizer. Red Chili chicken with singapore noodles is also a great dish. Its a must try in the city!!
One of the best places I've ever eaten! Order what the waitress recommends! The staff is so nice and you will have food enough for another meal! Highly recommended!!
This place is outstanding! Food is seasoned to perfection. My wife and I were amazed at the Chefs deft hand. Nothing was overpowering, but everything was full of flavor. Curried mussels, fried chicken and the pork belly fried rice were big highlights; however, everything was great. More...
Fantastic! A gem of a place! My hubby and I did not know what to expect and we where blown away with every bite. We had the egg rolls and the mussels to begin with, they were both delicious. For an entrée my husband had the bison flank steak and I had the salmon over jasmine rice with coleslaw, they were both heavenly delicious. We'll be coming back soon and I can see ourselves being frequent visitors. More...
I would give Bento Box 10 stars if I could!! We love to explore this city through food and drinks. We ended up at Bento Box on a Friday night after reading so many positive reviews on Yelp. What a spectacular place with spectacular food! So much flavor in each dish, we were totally blown away. Plus it's BYOB, bonus! Bento Box is now in our top 5 favorites in all of Chicago (it's a big deal to say that!).We took our parents, who are all "foodies", here on Easter weekend. We did what they call Family Style which simply means we pay $40 per person and the chef brings you multiple courses, even some items that are not on the menu. The chef is such a great guy, very personable, and so talented.Tips: Bring cash, its cash onlyBYOBGo with a group and do the Family Style so you can try many things (best value)They do to-go food...yummyFree street parkingMake a reservation, they only seat 18 peopleLIKE them on Facebook so you can see their menu (changes daily) More...
Umm.....this is some damn good food.I'm so glad I live around the corner. I've gotten take-out and dined in half a dozen times now and have loved every single thing I've ordered. It's a small, changing menu, so there is always something new to try. They can also turn most of the dishes into vegetarian or make something off-menu for the veggie eaters out there. More...
Was here this past Saturday night. The place is extremely small so make sure to call in and make a reservation. Sits about 20-25 people. We arrived early and luckily, there was a table for four available. The place is BYOB and they were extremely helpful with helping us get situated. Brought us a bowl of ice and rocks glasses as we were making mixed cocktails. They have a rotating menu. Literally, items were coming off the menu and new ones were going up while we dined there. We ordered the entire menu. Probably 6-7 dishes and shared them all. This was some of the best food I've had. Food highlights: We started with the mussels. They had a buttery garlic with coconut milk sauce at the bottom. Very subtle coconut milk taste. Mussels were served with Italian sliced bread, which was so good when dipped in the sauce at the bottom of the dish. Mussels were perfection. Egg rolls were pretty good. Loved the wrap, which is made in-house and you can tell. Next we had a fried chicken dish, which was served with cold soba noodles and had just a hint of sesame oil. The fried chicken coating was perfect and did not have the ridiculously oily skin you find in other fried chicken. Good combination of chicken with noodles. Almost like their version of chicken salad. One of the best dishes was the braised short ribs with potato salad served with a fried egg on top. Great combination, short ribs were soft and tender with the potato salad topped with a fried gooey egg. Anything with a fried egg tends to be a fave. Good combo of textures and flavor all in one dish. Best of all, after ordering the entire menu, we spent about $150 after tip. Not bad for four people! Can't wait to come back! More...
So first you need to know that I am not a fan of Asian food. My friends are trying to get me to expand my horizions. That said this place was awesome! Right away we were greeted and welcomed warmly. After we were seated the chef came over and asked us about any dietary needs. He asked us to trust him and just let him cook. Now I was a bit nervous since as I said I am not a fan of Asian food but he assured me that his food was not typical Asian cuisine. In the end I agreed and I am very glad I did.We started off with his pork egg rolls ... they were amazing! Extremely flavorful and just a hint of heat. The second course was a kind of Asian taco that was again awesome! The last course was his take on Pad Tai ... it had cuts of beef and shrimp ... it was very good.As previous reviewers have said this place is BYOB ... they were very accommodating ... my friend brought rum and coke ... they went out and got a bag of ice for him so it would be cold ... great customer service. This is a small place that doesn't take reservations so I would not take a large party despite the other review talking about taking a party of 7. Not that they can't do it but they may have just gotten lucky. There is street parking and I saw several spots very close to the restaurant even as late as 7 PM.I would highly recommend this place and if you are nervous about Asian food give this place a try you won't regret it More...

The meal at this restaurant was, hands down, the best meal I have ever had!!! The flavors were amazing and delicious!!! Rick deserves to be the next Iron Chef! This place is AWESOME! The food is SO good. I can't wait to go back there again. The staff are nice. I was a little skeptical because the outside is very unassuming, but I was blown away by how good the food tasted. I got the bulgogi, and I wanted to kiss someone, it tasted so good. I enjoyed the egg roll, and I don't even like egg rolls. I tried my friends' dishes, and those were good too. My only qualm with the place was that it was a little chilly. We went towards the end of winter/beginning of spring. More...
The food is all high quality and well thought out. BUT it is expensive for take out and their menu revolves around the same 10 items. I have been there 4 times. I have tried everything on the menu at least once. wont be back till I see something new.One plus is that the map room is across the street for after dinner beers. More...
I adore this place! Fabulous food. Although the menu is small, everything is perfectly prepared and seasoned. Definitely make reservations because the restaurant is tiny and packed with locals who seem to love the place as much as I did :)
Well spiced, seasonal, thoughtful food. Really great Asian Fusion, with a large nod to Indian cuisine, a cuisine that in my experience is typically overlooked in this food genre. They make all sauces and curries in house, and have a limited rotating menu that is written on the chalkboard. I especially love that aspect, because it usually takes me forever to decide on what I am going to order! The waitress/hostess/runner/ is so friendly and really wants you to enjoy your dish and is great at helping you pick what you want to order. They always have some type of curry/rice, noodle, and appetizer, and then have different meats/fish rotating through as well. We had the monkfish curry, vegetarian Singapore noodles (a couple of dishes can always be made vegetarian), and OMG Amazing Mussels (I wanted to drink the broth after we were finished). Dishes all have just the right spice, whether it be heat, salt, sweet, etc.Last thoughts: BYOB. Make reservations. Only 16 seats and they fill up fast on a busy night. Cozy but modern. And I love the giant buddha/sumo guy painted on the wall (apologies if I am ignorant on the proper classification). More...
This is an overall excellent restaurant. It has everything you have ever wanted - food your tastebuds will thank you for, BYOB with no extra charges, very sweet wait staff, and enough food to enjoy for two days! The menu changes weekly or daily... Never been there with the same options, but it is always good. If you like a little heat to your food this is your spot! The stand out is any noodle dish. Their noodles must be made from scratch because they are the best I've ever had! I suggest calling ahead since this place is tiny! I usually order an appetizer and two main dishes and my bill is always under $50. My boyfriend refers to this place as "first date magic" ... Definitely a great date spot! More...
This place was seriously good. Thank you Yelp for your guidance! The food has a ton of Korean influence. My girlfriend got something like Bi Bim Bap with salmon. .. It was awesome. I had the Vindaloo (curry). It was incredible. The meat was so crispy and I could have drank a cup of that sauce alone... So good. And of course, you can never beat BYO. More...

This place is absolutely incredible. We got the egg rolls (YUM), and I got the bulgogi with rice and homemade kimchi which was so good I want to eat every day for the rest of my life. Bento Box is by far my favorite restaurant in the city. For starters, the food is delicious. Everything is made from scratch, down to the curry sauce (not the packet seasoning that most places use! ) and is always fresh and seasonal. Because of this, the menu is constantly changing, which makes it fun to go back time and time again. Also, I need to mention the Singapore Noodles, I mean...ridiculous!! The icing on the cake is that the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. There is only one waitress, who is both friendly and knowledgable, and the head chef is always nearby (you can see right into the kitchen). Plus, it's BYOB. Perfect date spot. More...
Fuxking love this place. Can y'all pick a better music channel? Can you do jazz or blues or something else other than 90's rock. And damn you people for catching on. Now I usually have to wait to eat. BYOB More...
Probably the best pan-Asian I've had in Chicago. Amazing noodles, egg rolls and bulgogi. Will become one of my regular places.
"Simply magnificent" came out of my fiance's mouth after a few bites. He is not british, nor over 60 years old, and I've never heard him utter anything remotely like this. So, as you can infer, Bento Box is simply magnificent/amazing/delicious/awesome/incredible. We live in the neighborhood and I pass it every day on my commute. We thought it was a "hole in the wall" until some friends recommended it and we realized on further exploration that it was actually supposed to be nice and yummy. We were totally blown away! We got same day reservations for Friday night at 6:30, but it was packed when we were leaving (only seats 16). Started with the mussels in a curry sauce with crostinis and seriously, one of the best bites I have ever had in my life. We split two entrees- a short rib masala dish and a fried chicken sweet potato kimchi dish. They were both fantastic but the masala takes the cake. The meat was cooked perfectly, flavors were interesting but not overly done. Only complain is that they don't have dessert! Not like I could have fit it in my belly anyway. More...
You have to appreciate Bento Box. First, it's BYO. Second, the food is fresh, refreshing, and flavorful. We've been a few times now and our only complaint is that the limited menu (of 5 entrees) is frequently recycled. But nonetheless, we'll be back.
This place is one of my favorite in Chicago. It's a every small place but you can go there with a group..The menu is changing almost every weekend, and everything is so good! It's also BYOB.So recommended.
No place like this in Chicago!
The tuna roll is always fantastic.........but the addition of crab meat to the top, Rick you are a crazy food scientist extraordinaire!!!
o m gsooooo loved this place and it was soooo not even on my radar until now. Not usually my neck of the Chicago woods, being in Bucktown but we were meeting some friends who swore it was awesome. They were right.BYOB which I am always in favor of. I admit to being a little picky when it comes to my beverages so picking my own before hand is always preferred. But the food was really great. Not crazy pricing and excellent asian fusion. I tried something from nearly everybody's plate. It was okay. They're all good friends. Chicken and pork were my favs. But noodle dish was my serious hit of the night. As the name would imply, they were those incredibly tasty skinny noodles like I grew up eating even though they had no nutritional content. Ramen? Only created by an actual chef and spiced to perfection.Sorry to ramble. On the run to a meeting. Just wanted to get this one on the books for posterity. Short version is "go eat here" "delicious" "good pricing" "byob" More...
This was an absolutely outstanding dining experience. The chef offered my friend and I a multi course tasting menu, which included the bibimbop, pho, egg rolls, and chicken with these incredible chili potatoes. It was absolutely beautiful from start to finish. The chef was personable and informative, and the server/waitress Jackie was an absolute sweetie. It was such a stormy night, so the place was a bit slow until around 8. I couldn't believe how much each dish exceeded my expectations and offered such a lovely spin on traditional asian dishes. I will definitely be back- everything I had was truly delicious and left me feeling full in the best most nourished way. More...
One of my favorite places to eat amazing food not expensive at all and BYOB
Julie Reiser Savanelli
Great food combos! I was so impressed! Next time wearing stretch pants so I can eat more ;-) Great company too with Staci Kezios Kokalias ! Coming back again!
Similar to another reviewer, we live in the neighborhood and have never been. Ordered to go the other night. I knew they have a limited menu that changes often, so I called and the woman who answered was SO nice and walked through the entire thing with me. We settled on lamb curry and the vegetarian bi bim bop. When we opened it up, everything was nicely labeled including all of the small side containers (peanuts etc.). Both dishes were absolutely excellent. My only gripe is that it's very expensive. I understand that it's fresh ingredients, but it was almost $50 for these two things. We would probably go once a week if it weren't for that!192/365 More...
Delivery korean fried chicken with chili mashed potatoes ... outstanding! I could eat the chili mashed every day.
This is by far my favorite restaurant in the city. The menu changes up daily so I suggest you follow their Facebook page. I highly suggest the pork belly and butternut squash curry . It may not be "authentic", but it tastes better than a lot of the things around the area. It's amazing, and so are Rick and Adrian. More...
Hands-down the best bi bim bap I've ever had, with excellent produce, marinated mushrooms, and a dollop of spicy potato salad. Our appetizer was amazingly fresh tempura vegetables with a standout eggplant. My date's fried noodles weren't as noteworthy, but the bi bim bap and the appetizer were good enough that I'll be craving a return trip; next time we'll bring better sake. More...
Try and catch them when they're open but the food is excellent and always changing. Even if it's not listed they have a vegetarian option available.
Since we live in the neighborhood, we've passed by this place numerous times without really understanding what it was. Bento box for $20 seemed to be a little weird and expensive, but I am so glad that we decided to give this place a chance! We came here on a Wednesday night (called first to make sure there is room, since it is tiny) and armed with a bottle of crisp white wine - were immediately seated. The server explained the menu in great detail (we didn't even look at the board) and provided her recommendations. It sounded so good from the descriptions, we just told her to pick 2 entries for us, since we couldn't decide. Since we were starving, we started out with the egg rolls, that really were excellent, despite being $7 for two small rolls. My understanding is that they use the freshest and best ingredients in their food, so it is at a bit of a premium. The food sure tasted good, so I believe it and will pay for freshness! This is why their menu changes all the time as well, which I totally appreciate. For our main courses, we got the beef Singapore noodles and chicken jidori - both were finger licking good! Portions were pretty big, I had the noodles for lunch the next day. They are award winning for a reason. YUM! Can't wait to go back and try other fresh things in this place! So glad that we finally gave it a chance. There were much more take-out orders that Wednesday night, and I do think that the place (being so small) might be better suited for that. More...
Bento Box is now one of my top 5 BYOB restaurants in Chicago. They consistently delivery exceptional quality Asian food with that captures the essential characteristics of the ethnic cuisine. ..aka this is not Americanized Asian food. Don't get me wrong...this is also not a hole-in-the-wall asian food joint where you get heaps of authentic food for ~$5 per plate...no Bento Box takes a step in the gourmet direction. What types of food? The spicy beef bulgogi is a staple here and is always delicious. Sometimes they will do soba noodles, a bibimbap, korean or japanese style chicken, but whatever it is, they do it well. What I like most about the chef is that he is not afraid to go bold and spicy with his flavors. If a dish is meant to be spicy, it will be spicy! On our last visit we tried the lamb samosas which were excellent - spicy minced lamb filling and a perfect mint chutney sauce to accompany it. The new Jindori chicken with saam was also superb - really nice smokey bbq, soy, and chili flavor.I also appreciate the fact that the chef is sourcing most of his meats and vegetables from local farms/producers. This is a big plus for me. My only complaint is that they are closed Mon-Wed. Otherwise, do not hesitate to bring a bottle of wine and enjoy some delightful asian food. More...

Solid menu. Love the kim chi and bulgogi. Never a complaint!
Asian fusion at its best. LOVED the crispy beef, and the chicken dish we got was so fresh that it tasted like the chicken was slaughtered that day. The place is small and simple, so be prepared to go for the food not the ambiance. More...
Everything here is top notch!! I love all of the noodle dishes!
Not many places get my five-star review, but this place was such a surprise, it is well deserving. Went with a group for a birthday, I knew nothing about the place but when we arrived they started bringing out dishes that amazed everyone. From the pork egg rolls, brisket pho and Jidori Chicken, I was so stuffed! We shared everything and still had plenty of food left. The service was wonderful and well-timed for a large group. The space is small so I felt bad taking up so much room but it didn't seem to get overly crowded at all. And it's BYOB- which just totally makes it a go-to. Can't wait to go back! More...
