I had a two story extension built with Craft Design and Build. I found them to be very professional and full of enthusiasm. Chris (the Architect) was always on hand to chat if needed and on site throughout the build. We had a couple of clauses in the planning process but chris and I discussed amendments for building regs and passed with no issues. Overall I found them to be well priced and definitely recommend them to others. More...

How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
Firstly we'd check the head height is suitable and whether the roof and walls are in good condition and check for any damp issues.
We would also investigate the foundations to check for suitability for any additional loads such as blockwork walling or studwork walling.
Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?
1. Initially check the guidelines to ensure it can be converted within the permitted development rights
2. Check if the building is listed or in a conservation area
3. If planning application is required advise accordingly
4. Measured survey for the existing plans
5. Prepare initial plans for client discussion
6. Make amendments to suite any client requirement
7. Finalise plans
How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
The most important thing is head height, the ridge needs to be a minimum of 2m when fully converted. 2.4m is desirable because new larger floor joists and insulation will reduce this head height. Secondly we need to investigate the best location for your stairs.

It's a similar process to a garage conversion

3. Check for any roosting bats
4. If planning application is required advise accordingly
5. Measured survey for the existing plans
6. Consult with structural engineer and obtain structural details if necessary
7. Prepare initial plans for client discussion
8. Make amendments to suite any client requirement
9. Finalise plans
