Great location and well connected. As such it can be pretty noisy but earplugs are provided.
Amazing foyer and nice bar area.
Our standard double room was smaller than expected however given the pics on the website, so much so we checked with reception to ensure we hadn't been allocated the 'small double room' instead.
Would stay again!

a super hotel in an excellent location. stylish and elegant and right next to central station
it's always worth keeping an eye because good room rates are often available - which is always good to save a few quid on : the rooms are large and very nice, massively recommended
oh, free wifi as well - always a strong plus

Booking was straight forward. Rooms nice and warm with everything you need and more in it! Ample parking in the station car park costing £8 a day which I think is reasonable!

Loved this hotel. The room was great as it was a good size and the bathroom was spotless. This is an historic hotel and is well looked after considering.
The architecture is typical of victorian times and in its day this was possibly the grandest hotel in Newcastle.
The staff were very friendly and the prices at the bar were reasonable. All our requests were catered for. The fitness suite was fantastic! The pool was warm and a reasonable size and a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi are also available for those who wish to use this kind of facility.
I would recommend this hotel and will stay again. The only issue was with the noise at night were people returning to their rooms late could be disturbing at times...but otherwise was very satisfied with our stay.

Great room and service. Have stayed here a couple of times in the past and always enjoyed my stay. Right next to the Central Station and Metro so ideal if you are a train user. When we arrived we were upgraded on our room which was a nice bonus. Reception staff were very polite, professional and helpful. More...

Really lovely staff and great building in terms of history. The room was ok, shower was great. Its a bit noisy in the room I had towards the back of the hotel as its so close to the train station. It has a warm and friendly feel though and enjoyed the stay. Also had bag drop facility for free which was great on the last day of the trip. More...

Hotel is in an outstanding location if arriving by train, perfect for anything you might want to do in Newcastle. Beautiful lobby and nice comfortable rooms of decent size. Make sure to go to the leisure centre as the sauna and steam room are great. Pool was a bit chilly on our visit. More...

Great location next to railway station with lots of bars and restaurants nearby. The metro arena is only 10minute walk away and city centre shop similar distance.
Check in was good, friendly staff and our room was on first floor, this is a traditional old fashioned hotel with modern room. Our room was a double but spacious enough, complimentary drinks and snacks in fridge. Ensuite was a disabled bathroom but modern and very clean.
Overall a great hotel in fantastic location, nice room and would definitely stay again, albeit our recent visit was just a short one.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone and highly commend the staff for their politeness and helpfulness . I am looking forward to staying again in the future.

Lovely old grand hotel of the Victorian era. Comfortable and clean rooms with complimentary toiletries. Good breakfast. Pleasant surroundings in bar. Only problem was the fact that after my shower the water only only ran at a cool temperature for my husband. And I was not in the shower that long! More...

This hotel is really good, especially considering the price!!- It is sooo easy to find. Come out of the station, turn right and you'll see it. - The rooms were really big, with decent sized bathrooms- The breakfast was included in the room rate and wasn't bad (the croissant wasn't fresh but at least they provided lots of fruit, and lots of tea!!)- They do nice things like leave you complimentary water, juice and a kitkat - The staff were really friendly and helpfulI heard a few people mention that their room were noisy when trains arrived/departed, but my room was fine... If I need to stay in Newcastle again I'll definitely come back here. More...

*Location/Getting thereThis hotel is located right next to the train station -how great is that?nothing worse than a long journey followed by having to find a hotel. There is loads of places to eat nearby, plenty to see and do.The bus station is also quite nearby and would take about 10 minutes to walk too. Reception/staffThe hotel looks really nice from the outside-a grand looking building.Reception looks really nice with big chandlers hanging from the ceiling and there are two lifts.Staff were nice and i had the option of paying straight away or when i checked out. Hotel/RoomThe room i stayed in was a twin room and it had a complimentary mini-bar.Room had an en suite with a great shower and a phillips flat screen tv OtherRoom service was good .There was a wide selection of food available with healthy eating options. Price*This costs £60 for a night and doesn't include breakfast. This is an average price for a 3 star hotel. The only bad thing about this hotel was that it got noisy outside very early in the morning,so you might not like it if you are a light sleeper. More...

Newcastle upon Tyne is one of my favourite places in the world. I've hung out with actors, been to the Theatre Royal more times than I can remember, messed about around the river Tyne and explored quite a few of the many bars and restaurants. When I booked tickets recently to see a play, I decided I'd do things properly and stay at The Royal Station Hotel. The Royal Station Hotel is exactly what you'd expect of a hotel in Newcastle. It's old, superb in appearance from the outside and all the rooms are clean and tidy. There are a couple of restaurants very close by. Checking in was pretty painless. The only drawback was that we'd arrived too early. The staff were happy to take our bags until the room were ready. They looked slightly young but pleasant. I'd come up by rail and found the hotel was only a matter of feet away from the Station. We returned later to the hotel and completed checked in. The room was lovely, with a huge double bed and chairs, TV and a mini bar. There was also a complimentary bowl of fresh fruit. Rate: 5/5 More...

Wow, my sister just visited and we stayed together in this place. We had wanted to go to the Thistle but it wasn't available so this was second choice but I'm so glad it was! Although it doesn't look like much from the outside - the interior of this old hotel is absolutely stunning. It has echoey marble type floors and crystal chandeliers hanging up! The decor is very old fashioned and it all reminded me of that creepy movie starring John Cusack, 1408! It is so atmospheric. The room we had was lovely. It was very clean, reasonably sized with a tv, drawers, dresser and mirror, mini-fridge with a welcome snack of a club biscuit and a just juice (like a kiddies packed lunch, admittedly but quite welcome all the same) tea and coffee making facilities, an en-suite bathroom and a window that overlooks the road outside of Central Station. The lady at reception was very helpful and was treating us as though we were first time visitors/tourists to the city, even though we are Geordies. There is a big table by the lifts full of helpful maps and leaflets full of things to do in the town and surrounding areas.Breakfast is served promptly in beautiful surroundings by hard-working staff. Very reasonable prices and a brilliant location for anybody coming to visit the city. More...
