Brilliant work! I thought Rory put me at my ease during shooting, and that we managed in the time frame to come away with images that worked again and again. The end result - striking images (as expected) that also catch the real essence of the roles I portray and what makes me distinct as an actor.Having been a 'character' performer for decades, and ever eager to find a head shot that conveys the real force of my features and manner, I thought Rory did a superlative job of placing this on film. The 'painterly' quality of his imagery is immediately notable. I had heard of Rory Lewis before I booked my course with him and knew he was amazing at what he does. The Portrait course was exactly what I expected, very informative presented in a way that any level of photographer could understand. Rory Lewis is extremely patient when dealing with his students and always asked if anyone had any questions throughout the day.His knowledge of art through the ages and how he applies this to his work is fascinating and Is definitely something that I will also think about. I booked a 2 hour Actors Headshots session in December. I couldn't have been more satisfied. For starters booking the session was easy and quickly done as Rory's attentive costumer service got back to me same day. During the shooting day, Rory made me feel very comfortable and relaxed. He has a very nice talkative way and through out the whole session, we tried different expressions and styles. Without realizing it our productive 2 hour session had come to an end. I got 400 photos same day and after emailing Rory my selected photos, I received my retouched and airbrush photos next day. Both me and my agent were more than satisfied with the result! Attended Rory's Intermediate Portrait course at Calumet Manchester Aug 2015. Rory started the day with a brief review of how portraiture has developed through painters (think Holbein, Henry VIII and power) through to David Bailey. Provided you can handle a camera don't be put off by 'intermediate'. Everything else is explained fully (flash setup, including measuring with light meter, and positioning). Various one and two light setups are tried with opportunities to take images with each one. If you don't come away with some good images for your portfolio and a good understanding of taking portraits then you have failed to ask questions, because the event is informal and people are encouraged to participate. Rory has an easy, conversational manner that made the hour tick by without any sense of stress or 'production-line'. As a result, I was very pleasantly surprised that it produced over 170 shots - which gave plenty of scope for choice for the final finished image. Both this and the initial contact sheet came through very quickly. The only delay in the process was from me taking so long to decide which image to choose!
A great experience all round - with excellent results. Very highly recommended!

I met Rory today at the Calumet Academy in Glasgow for an Intermediate Portraiture Training Event. I had an absolutely wonderful day;
Rory is a chatty, well informed guy with heaps of knowledge and tips that he's happy to share. His tuition is completely focused on the subject matter and he ably covered the lighting, posing and exposure topics that I wanted to clear up. The model for the day, Mariel, was lovely, helpful and above all, very patient.
My sincere thanks to Rory and Mariel for making this a good day to remember.
