Twenty-eight years ago, Robert Stuart had the idea that quality hairstyling need not be in the domain of the arrogant and the pretentious.
Tired of the “scene” from his years working on 57th Street, in 1983 he opened his first full-service hair salon on Amsterdam Avenue at 82nd Sreet, an Upper West Side neighborhood known more for Zabar’s and psychotherapists than cutting-edge fashion and hair salons.

My hair has never looked better! I love this place. Their new location is really central. It's super convenient that they carry hard to find products from Kerastase and Plarmia.

Welcoming staff, affordable prices for experienced stylists. I have a pixie cut so I visit every 3 months and am never disappointed. My main stylist is Eddie who always makes sure my cut is as short as I need it to be and always flattering. He's also an amazing colorist and got my jet black hair a vibrant pink. Ladies, ask for Eddie! More...

Eddie is wonderful. Communicates and collaborates well with clients, has a natural stylistic sense, and really wants the client to be happy. It's important to note that Eddie really takes his time and makes you feel special, that is why I have been going to him for years! More...

So I came in for just a blowout and left with highlights and a haircut as well. Very happy with my stylist who convinced me but never pressured me. I left a happy girl. The best haircut I've had in a long time and affordable! More...

Decent cuts, but price is a little steep. Quality of staff is a bit hit or miss, but if your in a rush, they usually have a few 'walk in' spots available. Pick more senior staff for safer bets. More...

I've been having my hair styled and colored at Robert Stuart's salon for the past year. I had been going to another, very fussy well known West Side salon and hadn't been happy for the longest time. When my stylist there was on vacation I decided to search for another place. Luckily I chose Robert Stuart's salon. He was away and they recommended their master stylist, Baiba. She is just fantastic!! She understood what I needed, knows how to style hair..not just cut it the same way for each person..and my color always looks perfect! The salon is airy, modern, the people are warm and Robert always has great music playing...so the entire experience is relaxing. I highly recommend Baiba and the Robert Stuart Salon. More...

I have never been to Robert Stuart before. I live outside the country most of the time. My daughters live in London, Boston and New York (far downtown). We needed to find a salon in the upper mid town area to get hair and makeup done for my daughters wedding. We blindly chose Robert Stuart. I have never gotten so many compliments from so many people!!! And the staff was very accommodating. My stylist made a special effort to try to find out exactly what type of style I wanted which would reflect my personality. Just terrific!I just wanted to add that my stylist was Claudia! More...
