Quaint diner with food that's worth a trip from the city. The chef that operates the place has created flavors that really meld well together. Hundreds of places are just like this in SF, but none you can touch for the price. We love the ability of all-day breakfast. We've tried about five different things and haven't been burned once. Perfect chill spot for afternoon happy hour specials. More...

Had another excellent meal at Qube earlier this week. All our food was delicious!  The small green salads were as fresh as could be: crisp lettuce, mini heirloom tomatoes (sliced - love that detail! ), cucumbers and radishes. Dressing was homemade and yummy. Their garlic fries (fried in duck fat) were seriously the best I've ever eaten. Crisp, with plenty of garlic lightly sautéed in butter poured over the fries then the works were dusted with Parmesan cheese & parsley before being served. Pure gastronomical heaven!  I would recommend coming to Qube for them, if for no other reason!  Please don't stop there, though, because you would miss on opportunity to try one of their many special dishes like Chicken Tikka Masala or their Pasta w/ Chicken, onion & Pine Nuts which also featured sautéed spinach and parmesan cheese in a creamy sauce.  Both were scrumptious.  On this visit web were fortunate to be served by Hari, the owner of Qube. He couldn't have been nicer or have done a better job at serving and making sure the timing for all our dishes was such that we had time to enjoy our salad then the garlic fries and then our main dishes. If I have one regret, it is I failed to save room for dessert. I am definitely coming back again!!! More...

Since it opened in 2015 Qube has nagged me like a loose hinge on a cabinet door; its stark Googie architecture and bright red neon sign light up my hippocampus each time I pass-  "need to go there, need to go there" - only to be forgotten moments later. Until today.WHAT IS QUBE?Probably overlooked by historians, Qube occupies one of the few remaining structures in San Mateo to exhibit the Mid-Century Modernist style born of the jet-age; note the sweeping, wavey eve and how it suggests a "lift off" of sorts... more a vestige than museum artifact, just to be fair.Essentially, this is a diner that calls itself a "Bar and Grill", but what stands out is it's airy jet-age modernist decor; the dining room is juxtaposed to the busy flow of lights and sounds of El Camino, the steep forward-facing windows are lined by a row of comfortable booths, across the isle sit tall Jetson's-like swivel chairs bracing a wide, sweeping bar that could double as a landing strip...all of this evokes the forgotten spaceage optimism of 50's and early 60's.  There is a second fairly large if non-descript dining room behind the bar area. "The Villa" senior living community shares the same address and parking area.WHAT DID YOU HAVE?* Grilled Ham and Swiss w/Tomato, White Onion on Rye    - Delicious, but next time I'll hold the tomato, it added too much juiciness. * Curly Fries    - Delicious, they were gone well before the sandwich, even if standard fareSERVICE:My server was friendly and welcoming, refilled my drink and checked on me regularly, took my order which included 4 changes to the listed menu sandwich, all of which turned out perfectly.AMBIANCE:Mid-afternoon on a Tuesday was perfect for sitting in a booth and getting some work done while I ate......an old guy behind me breathed heavily; the Salvadoran in front shared his life story w2 others, further down an old lady held a focused gazed out the window as she took intermitent sips from her coke...she reminded me of a Gary Larson character mimicking the absurd....TMZ  played on large TVs above the bar, just audible enough to not be audible...SUMMARY:Highly recommend and look forward to returning, mostly for the modernist/Art-Deco aesthetic, but also because the food and service exceeded my expectations and I was able to get some work done. I've been passing by Qube for 18 months now, I recently started working in the area.  I decided to try it a week ago and I've been there three times now.  The place is clean, they have a parking lot with plenty of space, I'm always greeted with a friendly staff member.  I love that they use fresh ingredients and REAL CHICKEN, not that fake processed stuff.  The prices are reasonable.  They take all major cards including AMEX.  They accept web orders and phone orders.  My only suggestions would be: more options for online orders and putting dressing on the side for take out salads.  For instance the online option to build your own salad, burger, sandwhich, where you choose everything from bread, lettuce, veggies, meat, cheese, dressing, etc.  I've ordered the creamy white wine sauce pasta with garlic prawns, it was delicious.  The risotto was ok, it had a taste in the sauce I couldn't put my finger on, I didn't care for all the peas, it was my first time having risotto, but if it had the creamy white wine sauce, I would've loved it.  I had the caesar salad, minus the egg, and added grilled chicken, delicious. I'm a huge breakfast fan and have tried most of the spots within my near vicinity. I was stoked when I saw a Groupon deal come through for this spot as I hadn't yet tried it. I drive past this place all the time but never thought to come in as it's attached to a hotel, so I didn't think the quality would be that great. I was totally wrong! I love the diner feel of this establishment, but with the modern twists - i.e. where you would normally have the open kitchen, you have a bar. Our waitress was really friendly, got our order put in right away, and our food came our a short time later. Everything was really tasty - I usually don't order anything sweet for breakfast, but their chocolate chip pancakes looked super tasty so the bf and I got an order to share (along with with our normal breakfast plate of course), and it was delicious.
