Q&As

I love that I see the secret interaction between people, the microcosm of relationship in the simple touch of fingertips, the flirtatious smile between old flames, the whispered words to a confidante. I see life where others miss the nuances, the nanosecond glimpse of emotion and desires. To be ready to capture the 36 images that comprise a lifetime of memories in a wedding when the groom places the ring on his bride's finger, the nervous grin on her face as he does that, the crying child in the churchyard, the warm gust that lifts a hem a bit to surprised faces. Photography isn't about capturing a clear image as much as it is about capturing an environment of life and its atmosphere; we live, love and be. It's not always in focus at the centre, but at the fringes we miss the action of what the event really was to everyone and of course, we capture the point of the events but with artist panache. I shoot in monochrome, display a few candid images at the reception right out the camera. Perfection is the aim, but life is the result.

So many "professional photographers" are about but so few are actually any good. I believe that by putting my skill into a registered business not only protects and guarantees the service but protects the customer through legal responsibility to the government. It is a way for me to put my money where my mouth is and do what it takes to run a proper company instead of a self-employed individual who may not have the financial backing to pay out for disasters if they should happen.

Reliability and quality are the focus of the task. Getting a sharp clear image is one thing almost anyone can achieve today. The art of photography is something else: relationship, emotion, devotion, interactions and nuances of pose create the form of communication that makes the static image poignant and treasured for life. Not many can achieve that or even recognise the signatures of a particular relationship.

A wedding album of love is better than a disc of clear images... not that anything is wrong with clear images.
