DON'T MISS OUT!

We intend to get married once, so I can't compare Professor Bob to other wedding DJs. All I can say is he did one hell of a job for us! The right music just at the right moment, fantastic lights, and the best sound I have ever heard. He used to be on TV, so he knew how to entertain all our guests without hogging all the attention away from us. I would hire him again without hesitation.

But don't miss out! Asking around before our wedding, we found out that he is very popular for weddings and private parties, and he only does one show per day. Book him early or he might not be available.

I am an American professional DJ working in England, where the art of the DJ is held in highest esteem and the numerous club and mobile DJs are highly competitive. My wife, who is a dancer from Hawaii, and I wanted to get married in Waikiki, so we wanted to hire a Hawaii DJ. Needless to say, our standards and expectations were the very highest for my own wedding and reception.
We knew we had but one chance to get this right, so a year in advance we conducted venue inspections and interviewed seven DJs in Hawaii over four days while visiting family and friends. Knowing what experienced pro DJs charge, we budgeted $800 to $1600 for MC, lights, sound system, and musical entertainment.
Bob stood out right from first contact. His web site is a virtual encyclopedia of useful information. We felt at ease with his personality at the first meeting, and booked him a year in advance. His inventory of equipment for both lighting and sound was state of the art and more up to date than my own. Working within our budget, he supplied us with far more we were expecting to receive.
The wedding and reception could not have been better, despite our highest standards and demands. Our guests are still chattering about it. He created a custom playlist based on our broad, eclectic music specifications. He arrived two hours ahead of schedule. His setup and backup systems were clean, unobtrusive, and professional, using the latest editions of pro DJ hardware and software.
But, most impressive was that Bob knew how to entertain - when to talk and when to shut up, keeping our guests (mostly musicians and entertainers) thoroughly entertained while keeping the focus on the Bride and Groom.
If you demand the best and want an experienced pro entertainer, hire Bob, "the DJ’s DJ." We are happy we did. Nothing more needs to be said.

We wanted something different for our reception but didn't know what or how to start. Bob answered his phone himself...no "please leave a message" phone tag delays. We took Bob's advice and met with him in person. He asked lots of questions which made us feel that he was interested in US and what we wanted. After FREE consultation with Prof. Bob when he came up with dozens of creative suggestions, we decided to have a TV game show reception theme. It was so much fun! Our whole family loves Jepoardy so Bob created questions about us, how we met, stuff from little kid time. He had a large TV screen just like the real show game board so everyone could see and play. IT WAS JUST LIKE A REAL TV SHOW! Everyone was jazzed and then while the energy was high, we went into dancing which lasted all night long. I think he had every song everyone requested but ran out of time to play them all. The hi tech sound and the lights were like a concert or a SHOW, not anything like what we have seen or heard at other weddings. If you want a real PRO entertainer and not a wedding like just like everyone else's, and not just someone to play music, don't miss out. He has many repeat customers and is sometimes playing in Las Vegas, so call well in advance if you want Bob specifically. It was the best most fun reception we have ever been to ever AND IT WAS OURS! - not just a reception but a major PARTY! More...

I want to share our experience with Professor Bob. He is also a trained musician and he was a real radio DJ for Dick Clark, so he KNOWS music and how to entertain! But, all DJs play the same tunes. So here is why we are happy we hired him.

Our MC (a family member) got sick (too much beer) and freaked out with stage fright so Bob stepped in at the last second and announced the whole reception. Bob was already in a tux, so almost everyone except the wedding party thought we had planned it that way. WOW! He has a great clear pro voice but it sounded totally natural and friendly.

Bob has an unbelievable menu of modern lighting. We used his up lights, lasers, and dance floor lighting and that totally changed the whole mood and look of our reception from an ordinary bare ballroom to a HOT club-like environment, like on his video. We also wanted a monogram light so he sent us over a 100 designs to pick from. I think the killer lighting helped get everyone dancing and our dance floor was full almost the whole time. The sound system he used sounded just like a live concert, not just some crappy loud speakers. Some of our guests commented on the great sound. Just right on the volume and he continuously adjusted it all night.

Professor Bob is not the cheapest DJ around. But we saw a cheaper DJ at another party and didn’t want crappy sound and somebody obnoxious. The DJ kid we saw had an inflated ego and wanted all the attention and dressed like a bum in a tee shirt and shorts. Bad jokes, bad sound, a big banner advertising himself, two cheap lights, and other cheezy crap. We knew we only had one chance to get our wedding right. We felt we got double or triple more than our moneys worth from Bob and we have already booked him for our first anniversary.

One bad thing…book him early because he was booked months in advance. We just got lucky.

Q&As

So, what is our best advice for keeping the dance floor full?
First, hire an experienced professional DJ. You should be able to request six to twelve songs that have special meaning for you, but beyond that, you should trust the DJ to make the specific musical decisions. However, you should feel free to request genres of music that you think your guests will like. Rock, Country, Hip Hop, Oldies, whatever. You should feel free to submit a “Do Not Play” list of music you simply can’t stand. Just keep in mind that you should make your requests with not only you but the majority of your guests in mind. Unless dancing is unimportant for your event, at some point remember that the DJ will have to play music that will keep your guests on the dance floor for hours.

We created Da Spin Doctor to keep EVERYONE entertained.

DJ-ing started on the radio, and Professor Bob can take you "back to the future." We share the best music from NOW plus the 1940's, right up to TODAY.

Da Spin Doctor plays it the way it was originally performed, and as loudly or as softly as YOU want it - before, during, and after your food & beverage service.

Delectable and digestible dinner music? Yum, yum!
Dance, dance, dance! You bet!
Rock & Roll? Oh ya, baby!
We do our best to accommodate your requests, but we don't play "dirty" pimp hip hop or "cop killer" rap

A lot of folks ask why I do this. After all, I have a great career as a college professor. So, why? I think I have an answer, if you will allow me two minutes of your time to explain…

I grew up in a time when popular music came into its own. I was fortunate to live in a time after big bands like Glenn Miller evolved from simply providing dance music to backing up solo singers like Frank Sinatra and Helen O'Connell. Big Bands also featured vocal groups like the Andrews Sisters and the McGuire Sisters. Those four part harmonies evolved into street corner Doo Wop during the 50’s and 60’s. Then, those great harmonies from groups like the Four Preps and Four Freshmen incorporated rock and roll rhythms, which skyrocketed rock, rock-a-billy, and rhythm & blues performers like Elvis Presley into our pop culture and forever into our lives. Motown capitalized on all that went before and developed something entirely new to share with mainstream America and the world. The Beatles and the Stones arrived, broke all the rules, and borrowed from all of the previous influences, crafting pop music into what we have today.

Like many young folks back when I was a radio DJ, I assumed that because music was popular (unlike ‘classical’ music) that pop music was disposable. It didn’t seem important or necessary to preserve last year’s hits because what was important at the moment was what was new and popular.

But now, looking back I realize that pop music reflected who we were at the time, evolving over time. It made us laugh. It made us cry. Music is a memory marker in time to recall with a smile our first date, our first kiss, our first car, our high school prom, our wedding song, and where and who we were when we heard those wonderful tunes.

So, the reason I do this is to share with you the music that marked who we were at the time, who we became, and who we are becoming, like mile markers on our personal highway. I play current music so that this generation will have its own memories of this moment. Music triggers memories, some sweet and some bittersweet, that are truly the history of our souls.

I was so wrong back then; Pop music was not disposable, but essential to preserve and to share with those we care about. I do what I do to share the best music of our lives so that we can each personally remember the emotions of our personal “best of times.” What could be more important than that?

Our service was started because at weddings and events we noticed that frequently younger DJs play music they like, and far too loud - which sends older guests scurrying outside or they go home early to escape the noise, concussion, and contemporary "music." Few were dancing. It seems the only ones having a good time at parties these days are the D.J. and a few soon-to-be hearing impaired teens. Hey, nothing wrong with that. That's good fun and very popular if you are a teen...

But...what about the REST of the guests? We created "Da Spin Doctor" ©® to entertain EVERYONE who enjoys the music of our lives!

We are the first BBB accredited DJ in Hawai'i to have an A+ rating.

3. We have an extensive 'fun to formal' costume wardrobe which we match to the theme of your event.

7. We KNOW the music from the 50's right up to today's top charts. Our primary mission is to share GREAT music with you and your guests. We LOVE what we do.

8. Professor Bob ALWAYS does a clean and classy show, suitable for all ages. You and your guests will never be embarrassed by our music, attire, MC comments, or show.

9. YOU ( NOT the DJ ) sets your desired volume of the music, and the amount of talk / personality / games / events. (That's even in our contract because it's YOUR money !)

10. NO hard sell. NO high pressure. We don't try to be all things to all people in order to sell every gig. If we don't feel that we are precisely THE perfect match for your event, or if we are already booked, we will refer you to one of our trusted colleagues.
