We loved Popoli! The food was fantastic. The atmosphere was great. The service was even better. I highly recommend Popoli.
Excellent restaurant in a historic bank building in downtown Cedar Rapids. The Neal was great and the service for a table of 10 was excellent. Will be back when in town.
Always great food and service! Best rib eye steak ever!
Took my mom and wife to an awesome dinner, waiter was fantastic and meal was cooked to perfection. Great venue and night out on the town
The historical bank building was breathtaking! There are beautiful stained glass windows! The service of each of the staff was outstanding, especially Abbie Smith who is very skilled and friendly! The vault is available for private dinning! We chose the following items from the menu and every single bite was delicious.Spinach & Artichoke Dip With Toasted FlatbreadsMozzarella CapreseShrimp PicattaPopoli HouseBeef Tenderloin KabobsGarlic Mashed PotatoI will return with family to share my new found favorite "Ristorante!"Thank you,Victoria More...
At first our waiter didn’t stop by or pay much attention to us and somehow after we ordered wine we ended up with a waitress who was attentive and lovely! My mom loved Prime Rib night and I had a beautiful king crab fettuccine. We will definitely be back! More...
Do you want to know what good service is, dine here plain and simple! We were on a 15-day cross country RV trip for July 4th weekend, we wanted pizza so we did a quick google and it suggested Popoli. Called and spoke to one of the staff who said they had a patio we could dine on with our dogs and said come on in. We hit downtown with 43' of rig and drove around the block a couple of times trying to figure out where we could park. This is where service 101 started (and it just got better from here). The gentleman that we spoke to (wish I could remember his name) came outside, helped us get oriented to their parking area, welcomed us, got us and our dogs' set up for dinner and gave us the ability to relax for a while which we really needed at that point. So, we order and discover that despite searching for a pizza place they only offer pizza during lunch, the executive chef personally comes out to apologize to us, brings a salad at no cost and says he'll personally oversee the meal along with some additional apologies. The meal was 5 star! The greens were as fresh as can be, the chicken alfredo that I opted for was spectacular, the brought us water for our fur-kids, checked on us constantly which is sometimes a concern when you eat outside and overall delivered an incredible experience! We were personally catered to by 3 of the staff, one being the exec, the meal was wonderful, the help in getting us and our RV into the area went above and beyond, it was just a great experience. Before we got back on the road, my better half went inside to use the restroom, she described an amazing locale, renovated from a vintage bank, very high end feel but warm and a place that you want to come back to and experience. If this is the way they treated a couple of out of towners in an RV that needed a break from the road, I can only imagine how well they treat their local and recurring diners! Superb! More...
Went in for our Anniversary dinner and was not disappointed. Was our first ti.e going to Popolis. I would highly recommend the dry aged ribeye. So delicious. And a great unique drink menu. More...
We had a wo wonderful time, the food was perfection, the ambiance was perfect and the service was the Best!
This is a really beautiful restaurant and so cool to eat in a Louis Sullivan jewel box. No idea what other reviewers were talking about when saying the vault looked shabby - that is totally the place to be seated! They've added outdoor seating that looked like a good option when the weather is cooperating. Definitely a great place to stop for drinks as they have a really creative drinks menu and the bar area is really nice. Wish I didn't live so far away so that I could visit more often!Update: Recently returned and the restaurant was even better than I remembered. Things I can't stop thinking about: Steak Nachos, Shrimp Piccata and the Creme Brûlée (with sea salt!). I think they've changed up their menu and service was excellent! New management? More...
This was the second time we were here for a friends reunion. I originally found the place on yelp and loved the reviews, menu and history. So accommodating. We will be back again. This is now the go to place for this group. Everyone’s happy with the food choices. More...
Great food. Fun location. Nice wine list. Sage was a skilled and friendly waitress.
Very pleasant surroundings. Good Food and good service.
The servers were so great, they made the evening so great.
Great beef tenderloin salad. Service was great. Seated right away and environment was quiet.
Wonderful place for dinner. Waitress was great and the chef came to our table twice just to make sure we were happy. No complaints from us.
Food was excellent and service was outstanding. Unique setting in a beautiful old bank.
Popoli is one of our favorite places to go out for dining in Cedar Rapids. This time we were in the small front room area, which was a little louder with shorter ceilings than the rest of the place, but as always the food, drinks, and service were all great. We love the old bank vault and the art work. Our party got different meals and they were all excellent. Another good experience at Popoli. More...
Prices are hitting the upper edge for the experience. Two of us paid $130 for a basic meal -- one bottle wine, two entrees and two house salads. But we do like the food and the historic re-purposing. Staff seemed stressed, barely able to keep up. Not to worry, though, we'll be back! More...
Visiting for the weekend, host family suggested your restaurant. Very nice.
Very good restaurant, and good service. I wish they had more offerings without dairy.
Server was great. We have been here 3 times and our servers have been great. Food is usually good. The scampi tonight had over cooked shrimp and asparagus chunks that were tough and woody. Our other two dishes were very good. More...
Took my wife out for anniversary.
The food was so fresh and well prepared! We ordered the stuffed mushrooms, lamb chops, filet mignon with lump crab, hollandaise and asparagus, and the macaroni and cheese. Nice wine list and service that didn’t feel rushed in a sophisticated atmosphere. More...
Best place for a special occasion in Cedar Rapids.
Great service! The wait staff worked together to provide all that we needed.
Excellent meal in every aspect. Jet was an excellent waiter. There when you needed him. The food was tremendous along with the drinks and dessert. Would definitely go back!!
Popoli is probably a bit of a splurge, but is worth it. Great ambiance, excellent service, delicious food. I had the pork chop with the bacon-cherry chutney, which was cooked perfectly, had a touch of heat, and was generally full of flavor. I'm not a drinker, so I can't comment on the wine list, but the cocktails looked good. I was visiting from out of town for work and if I ever end up back in Cedar Rapids, Popoli will be my first choice for dinner. More...
Nice atmosphere, great service. Too pricey though for the food, and drinks. I spent $150 for two people. Reminded me of an expensive Biaggi's. Only think the meal was worth $75 to $100 dollars based on how well it tasted which was mediocre. My steak tasted a bit burned. The mushrooms, and onions added were 6 dollars each with barely any flavor. The only redeeming quality was the free breadsticks, and strawberry salad. More...
Filet ordered medium rare was overdone. Typo in special insert. Expect grammar clarity for a $59 entree.
One of my favorite restaurants in CR. Really nice food and cocktails, in a wonderful former bank (including seating in the vault). Come for the food, enjoy the architecture! Stained glass, painted murals, old fixtures... More...
I have eaten here several times. It is always great. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was nice. I made reservation online and the hostess, Alexis, was great finding a table for my preferred time.
My favorite restaurant in the area. We went with a group of 8, and the food was amazing, drinks were fabulous, and service was excellent. It's a bit pricy, but if you want to splurge for a nice meal, it is totally worth it. More...
We had a great meal here at Popoli's. The service was outstanding, the decor is beautiful the food was excellent. We were afraid parking was going to be a pain but its not located in downtown proper. Its actually located on the other side of the river with loads of parking options. The spinach artichoke dip was a bit spicy, but really good. The shaved Brussels sprout salad was really really delicious spicy but I was expecting that given the chili paste. I loved the sweet savory heat of it all. We asked about an item not on the menu (pasta with a vodka sauce) and was told they could make it. That was good but my favorite thing was the Berkshire Pork Chop. I really liked the cherry bacon relish that came with it. We'll most definitely be back. More...
Great food and service! Extraordinary decor and ambiance!
Really great food but expensive. Wine menu was very overpriced as some bottles you can find in the store for $12 but they were asking for $50+.
Another nice evening; Great service and great food. We ordered the Ribeye in bone for 2, and it was delicious.
Good food, ok service. Waitress needs to be more respectful to dinner party.
By all means, this was great experience. Staff great and efficient. Food presentation was excellent. Food was well prepared, very good. Table in booths are very large. Parking is not well defined and handicap parking is not handyWill definitely return. Great place for Cedar Rapids More...
Great restaurant. We had a great server. My Sea Bass was slightly overcooked.
We were in from Boise, ID, looking for a quiet date night. We had an excellent evening. Started with shaved Brussel Sprouts and shared the Salmon entree. We enjoyed a very nice bottle of Pinot Grigio. We finished with Rhubarb/Berry Cobbler and Salted Caramel Creme Brulee. All of of our courses were very good and Sage, our waitress, was attentive during our entire meal. The converted historic People's Bank building created a fun atmosphere. More...
Food was good. Server tried hard but just didn’t seem to get it right. Overall nice restaurant.
The food was delicious and the atmosphere is great. wonderful service. My only complaint is that halfway through our meal the music changed to classic oldies like elvis and I am just not a fan of mo town and elvis while I am eating a special meal.
Fantastic rack of lamb. Super good service. Overall, a very good experience.
Great date place.
Passing through town, we hit the jackpot finding this place, so worth the extra $ when food is prepared so well. We had a filet and scallops, Brussel sprouts, wedge salad and Carmel Creme Brûlée. I especially loved the subtlety added ginger in the balsamic glaze on the Brussels! The steak was tender and flavorful cooked to perfection without the overdone amount of salt that most restaurants tend to serve. With the historic building, architecture, and artwork, (it's a former bank), and a large vault remnant of earlier days...make this a Cedar Rapids gem! More...
Wonderful dining experience, fantastic food and the building was beautiful. What a great place for fine dining.
The service and management were outstanding. We had a time crunch to get to the theater and they were amazing! Very accommodating. The food was also excellent!
We went for a birthday dinner but felt rushed towards the end of our dinner.
Wait staff was awesome. Great atmosphere. Food was very good.
Had party for 26, recommend staff, chef, and servers!! Great time. Thanks Jude, Danny, Jet, and staff. I'm coming back soon.
Beautiful restaurant in an old bank with a neat old vault you can see plus stained glass original to the building. Nice variety on the cocktail menu, I had a mule and it was very good. We had seafood for the main course that tasted fresh. It was worth saving room for dessert too! We had an cheesecake that tasted better than homemade. More...
The food was unimpressive for the price, but the cocktails were fantastic and the ambiance was great.
My first visit was a special occasion and we were so pleased with our visit. The food was absolutely delicious. We had steak, scallops, king crab legs and salted caramel creme brûlée. We had two people checking on us at appropriate intervals and never lacked attention. We love craft cocktails and tried 4 of them! They did not disappoint. The ambiance is cool and even the restroom was great! Highly recommend! We will be back!! More...
Our server was more concerned with other tables even though it was just a table of 2. I still felt we came and talked to us only 3 or so times. But the food made up for the lack of service by the staff. I felt the hostess did I better job in checking on us than our actual server. More...
Everything was perfect, the quality of the food for the price we paid matched. We will be going back.
The food was fantastic, the service was spot-on and the ambiance was perfect. Thanks for a great evening!
Never had a bad experience at Popoli's. The food is delicious, the staff is very helpful, and the chefs willing to come to your table to talk about any special request you may have because of dietary restrictions.
This place is awesome! The food was incredible and the staff was extremely helpful. I can't wait to go back!
Great place, nice building, well decorated, friendly staff and awesome food. Totally recommend the dry aged ribeye.
I never have a bad meal at Popoli. The service is always great as well!
Wonderful example of an upscale dining establishment in cedar rapids. We had the shrimp scampi and lobster prusciuto pasta and both were excellent. Combined with an ample wine selection and quite possibly the best tiramasu I've ever had, it is definitely a fine choice for an intimate dinner or a quick drink. More...

We loved the food, atmosphere and had a lovely dinner. My spouse is still raving about the warm brussel sprout salad.

Another fun outing at Popoli. They always do a really good job. Will be back again.
This restaurant never disappoints. The service is attentive without being intrusive and the food is terrific.
The food was outstanding, and the service was second to none. I highly recommend Popoli Ristorante.
Fine dining in an architecturally significant building. If you don't know about Louis Sullivan, read about him before you go to Popoli.
The food was delicious, and the artwork/decor was a nice touch. My only complaint was that the booth we were sat at had a very wide table, so it felt like I was sitting very far away from my wife. It is a bit pricey, but the food is fancier and the environment/service is worth it. More...
To start I was extremely impressed with the ease of making the reservation on line. The next morning I received a call from Jude (the GM) and he was extremely pleasant and accommodating. As my group grew prior to the event, Jude was MORE than accommodating us to ensure are group had a great time and were all very comfortable. I have never had such a wonderful experience from beginning of planning to the end of my event. The staff was extremely attentive and the food was amazing. More...
We always enjoy eating at Popoli. Great food and service.
We had an excellent meal here for an evening out celebrating a birthday. Their "ball" appetizer was a hit. Quality food, nice portions, and delicious homemade bread. More...
Had a nice birthday dinner for my Moms 85th Birthday
First Time here. Hesitant to come as the rumor has it, it being expensive and a snooty place. Neither is true. For Cedar Rapids it's upscale, for the rest of the Western Hemisphere it's the middle of the road. Delicious food options, made fresh at a reasonable price. Excellent service. Awesome interior. Good foot the private couples dinner or larger group. Wonderful addition Cedar Rapids dining options and very conveniently located. Can't go wrong here. More...
Pricey, but good food nice setting in an old bank building. Quiet for a special occasion and or date night. Portions were pretty good. My prime rib was huge, wife's tortolloni was average portion size. Took leftovers home. Bar drinks were mixed as expected. Lots of staff working, main table waitress, but multiple staff delivering food etc, chef hand delivered main dish. Would go again for special occasions. More...

Took clients to dinner and we sat in the Vault, what an awesome room and added to our conversation!
Staff was pleasant and prompt with service. The food and drinks were fabulous!! Ambiance was very cool in the old People’s Savings Bank. Would recommend for sure!!
This place is a gem in Cedar Rapids. There are not many finer dining resturants in the city. There is something on th menu for everyone. The food is great. When you walk in the door you are treated warmly and made to feel welcome. We had someone in our party who had a walker and they offered to help her and stow her walker and they received it when we were ready to leave. Our server was Great! The pork ossi buco and both pasta dishes were wonderful. Loved the whole experence. More...

Made reservation for 4 and then they had a table open for 2 and then proceeded to tell me that the reservation was only made for 2. The table was sticky. The server was nice but didn’t know the menu. The food was flavorful. The presentation of the filet Oscar style could use some help. I asked for side of broccolini and there was a TON of it right in the middle of the plate- not appealing. Was undercooked. The steak was perfect. Dirty martini was also perfect. Brussels salad was very good. Appetizers were also delicious. Will try again at another time. More...

Food was good...mixed drink portions a bit skimpy. Service was excellent....wine selection very good.
We have only eaten here twice, but it was a great experience both times. The food was excellent and the service was very good. Watch out if you have a Basil Bliss cocktail. It is really good, but can sneak up on you if consumed too quickly. We would definitely recommend it for a fine dining experience. More...
Nice restaurant. Service was a bit slow and distracted.
We had headed for the downtown Czech village area, but our chosen restaurant was closed on this beautiful Monday. We Yelped, to find something close, and Popoli popped up. I admit, we might not have chosen it before, but I'm very glad we did.We arrived ahead of any dinner crowd, parked right out front, and were seated by the window. Our service was impeccable, the menu was varied and elegant. Of course, we started with their spinach artichoke dip, but this dip was better than any we've had elsewhere, including the perfectly toasted sections of flatbread. Their house Chianti was a little more than I am used to paying, but it was perfect with the shrimp with creamy lemon sauce. He had a Stella with his beef stroganoff. The chef himself delivered our dishes, and we had a chance talk desserts (their summer berry cheesecake was stellar), and sauces. What a lovely dinner! We will be back. More...

Please pay no attention to any reviews below 5. This place is a GEM in Cedar Rapids! It would be a wonderful restaurant in any city, Cedar Rapids is lucky to have such a great Italian place. I had the wedge salad, bib lettuce with bacon, blue cheese. Light dressing and just wonderful! Next came mussels in a red sauce. Now, most of the time I'm not a fan of red sauce on any seafood but this was exquisitely well done. High scores on this!Beer & wine selection was great! I'll be back, Love this place! More...

Located in an historic repurposed bank from the late 1800’s, the art and architecture are outstanding. We were treated by a pleasant young women and seated at a booth for 4 with the biggest table I ever saw. It took awhile to get menus, then to get cocktails and to order. Long enough for us to fidget but not to get really annoyed. Our waiter was friendly but I question whether he paid attention to our requests as we shared several items and one of us got 2 appetizers for dinner. Our dinners appeared in random order with an inordinate amount of time for everyone to be served. It took so long to get our first course then our main dishes appeared almost at the same time. We sent them back to hold till we finished. The food however was outstanding-they May be confuse with the timing but they do know how to cook,. The wedge salad-big enough yo share had a decadent chunky blue cheese dressing crispy chunks of bacon and very fresh lettuce and tomato wedges. The shrimp with artichokes over cappellini in a creamy lemon sauce was the stuff of dreams; delicate yet demanding with the assertive flavor of lemon softened by the demands of the artichoke. Equally tasty were the mussels, the chicken with penne in a vodka cream sauce and the appetizer giant meatball. However the most outstanding dish was the fried Brussels sprouts-delectable More...
Amazing food, amazing service...amazing restaurant!
Server was attentive and patient as we talked, waiting to take our order as we enjoyed the appetizers. The food was only so-so. The steaks didn't have a lot of flavor, the risotto was not good, the pasta was cooked too much and shrimp tasted a little fishy. The atmosphere was great and the offer to put us in the vault was great! This was a business lunch so I was very disappointed in the food but the atmosphere was very interesting and nice. Maybe should consider a special using local ingredients and need to watch when serving larger parties that the food is hot and seasoned well. More...

Excellent. Except for noise level but to be excepted when you have a full houseGreat food great service.
I've been dying to try Popoli's forever and now that we got the chance, I was so swept up I forgot to really take it in. As many have mentioned, this upscale restaurant resides in an old bank and the vault, murals, and modern decor make for gorgeous Instagram material. Situated downtown across from the amphitheater, this is a great date night or special occasion spot. Be sure to make reservations as it gets very busy! The food was outstanding. They brought herb bread and butter to start. We ordered a large bruschetta for the table - my dad was particularly into the balsamic dressing. Matt and my grandmother both ordered lasagna bolognese. One with a side of asparagus. Dad had the chicken scallopini. I ordered the pork chop. Like I said, everything was delicious. Nana is the only drinker of the group, but she said her old fashioned was "nice and stiff". Definitely on the fancier side, but one of the better fancier options I've tried in the area. Its entirely possible I'll be making our anniversary reservations here in the next few months. They really sold me from start to finish, I know I haven't done it justice. Just treat yo'self to a meal at Popoli and you won't be disappointed! More...

This was our first time at Popoli. We enjoyed the architecture immensely. The former bank is a stunning setting for the restaurant. Our food was good. Unfortunately, there was a birthday party in a private room on the side of the bar where we were dining. The group had a sudden influx of guests, which upset our beverage and food service quite a bit. We waited about 10 minutes for initial service, and had to ask for that. Drinks took another 8-10 minutes. Food service was much better as things settled down from the private group. Also, the guests of this private party were SO LOUD we could not hear each other at our table unless we raised our voices almost to the point of shouting. We think this was an unexpected addition to the private birthday party, so the staff could not have been prepared for it. Nonetheless, we were unable to enjoy our time there as we would have liked. Popoli was amazing!!! Everything from the atomsphere, the appetizers, cocktails, and the dinner!!! If you haven’t been here you are issuing out on this gem!
We had 7:00 reservations for our party of 5. We got a call from Jude earlier in the week asking us to change it to 7:30 and they would put us in the vault with no minimum spend requirement which was fine with us. We were told when we arrived that the party in the vault room was just finishing up. We enjoyed the bar and the bartender and 40 min later they were still there in the vault room. Hey you can't blame people for enjoying their night out! There was one open table in the bar area so we asked if we could just eat there and we were told it was fine to do so. The bartender felt horrible about the delay. Due to this, a round of drinks at the bar were taken care of by the restaurant. Which was very, very nice! The table in the bar was lovely and the food was fantastic! On point! I definitely recommend this restaurant. The staff, food, atmosphere is just top notch! More...

The service was speedy - food amazing - atmosphere calm and inviting. Definetly recommend checking out.
Loving the service and atmosphere
Service attentiveness could have been better. Friendly and prompt when asked for things, but not attentive enough without being asked.

Our waitress was great—friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and how items were prepared...she was attentive, but not hovering. It was my sister’s first time (I’ve been a couple times) and we both would happily go back. Super handy that they have their own parking lot, too! More...
Great bartenders and servers! Highly recommend going to Popoli if you're looking for high quality drinks and food!
Food was great and waiter was pleasant. Great to hear the history of the bldg from waiter. The only critic is that our steaks were served while we were still eating our salad. Great place.
All good. Great time
First time at this restaurant. I had the filet and crab cake, with asparagus. My wife had scallops with wilted greens. Everything from the bread and butter to virtually everything on our plates, was superb. The chef even came out personally to make sure everything was right. I also had one Basil Bliss and had to ask my wife to drive home. Loved absolutely everything about the experience and will return. More...
Food and service were excellent. The chef even checked in with us at one point. There wasn't a single thing on our plates that evening that wasn't perfectly done. We would highly recommend this restaurant, especially for special occasions. We will definitely return, since this was our first time dining there. More...
Ordered the saffron seafood risotto. Loved the flavor and the seafood was all excellent. My wife had the shrimp picatta and really enjoyed that as well. Our server gave a great recommendation for a wine. More...
Excellent food and variety. Service was fair at best as the server disappeared at times.
We loved it. Incredible on the inside. Wait staff very friendly and efficient! Food was good. Would definitely come back.
Delicious food in the innovative ambience of an old bank. Service was energetic and friendly. Try some of the unusual cocktails!
The restaurant was recommended by a colleague. The food was excellent and the waiter was quite attentive. I would not hesitate to recommend to others.
Love this place. Great setting with high quality food.
The calamari, stuffed mushrooms and spinach dip was a great start to an excellent dinner. My steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned.
Excellent food and excellent service. Had the 18 oz riveted and was done to perfection. Server was prompt and attentive
If you are looking for an upscale place with historic presence, this is the place for you. The bar is a great place to meet friends after work-lots of choices and great appetizer selection. The main menu is creative and fabulous-try the brussel sprout salad, you will not be disappointed. Cheers!! More...
We went out for my birthday supper with family. The drinks were excellent and made to our liking. We all ordered something different for our entrees and they were all wonderful. The service was just right and was available when we needed it. It was a good time that we all enjoyed. More...
Nice place for a special occasion. Louis Sullivan designed space, good food, good service. Definitely want to go back.
Great bar and fun atmosphere. They made an amazing 12 mile limit cocktail for me from scratch.
Appetizers were great. Cocktails great. Entrees were ok.
This was our second dining experience at Popoli. The first the service was just not good but a lot better this time. The food has been very good both times and I have recommended it to friends.
A recent find I've fallen in love with. The setting is an old bank that they've made very inviting and comfortable. Sitting by the windows looking at the river and downtown is fun. The food is great and the staff is friendly and helpful. The first time I ate here I tackled the 36 oz ribeye which was perfectly prepared and fed me for 3 more meals. The menu has a nice selection for most tastes and the food is delicious. Last time I had the steak and mushroom risotto. I'll definately be going back for that More...
I had never been to Popoli before. This is an amazing find for celebrating my mother's birthday. The interior is absolutely gorgeous and we learned so much about the history of the building from the hostess and information posted on the halls. The menu provided a variety of dishes everyone enjoyed. We were able to choose various wines by the glass and mixed drinks that paired nicely with our meals. Although we were stuffed, we had to sample dessert. The tiramisu is enormous and was easily shared. My mother requires a walker so the on-street parking and adjacent lot, as well as zero-entry, were truly helpful. The hostess even moved us to a larger table to accommodate her seating needs. We left holding our stomachs and already planning our next visit. More...
The Manhattans were perfect! My wife had the fillet and crabcake(all crab) and I had the rack of lamb special. Perfectly cooked to medium rare and very tender. For dessert we shared the blackberry-rhubarb crisp with vanilla bean ice cream over the top More...
First time for us. Very nice decor, food was very good and the service, both from the bar and at the table, was excellent. A return visit has already been discussed and agreed on. More...
We stopped off here last week before the concert over at the Paramount. After a few very nice drinks at the bar I had an excellent fish dinner and my friend had a filet. The moderately expensive price is well worth the atmosphere the location and the food was quite good for Cedar Rapids More...
Wonderful food! Their pasta dishes are always fresh and authentic, complemented by a nice wine list. We've found a gem in the historic bank building!
Excellent service and great food. Somewhat pricy but ok for special occasions. Offering a drink special would be a nice offset to a $50 entree.
The service was very good. The menu selection was adequate but all 4 diners were somewhat disappointed with the food. The beef tenderloin risotto was bland and the fresh salmon, while seared perfectly, was in a very acidic red wine reduction with tough kale. Of course, there is no better atmosphere than the Louis Sullivan building! The gorgeous architecture and details make Popolis a wonderful special event destination. More...
This was the first time we had bern disappointed with Popoli's. We ordered the calamari, which was very bland and overcooked. I ordered the capresi salad, which came before the appetizer. It was 3 tomato slices with a huge brick of mozzarella, some basil pesto, and balsamic drizzle. It was way too much cheese for 3 slices of tomato, and the basil pesto was not a good replacement for fresh basil. Fir entrees my wife got the filet and I got the seafood risotto. Her steak was good but the potatos were cold. My risotto was dry and not creamy at all. The berry cobbler dessert was good. Service was good but the food was mediocre at best. Other visits have been good, so we're not sure what happened this time. More...
Excellent service and food. Enjoyed the service and atmosphere
The food is always good. The service is usually really good except when they are very busy. The restaurant doesn't seem to schedule enough wait staff on nights where there are concert across the street at the amphitheater. I was looking forward to the prime rib however the server did not ask me how I'd like the cut done. As a result the cut I received was fairly rare and I needed ask for a steak Knife, since they didn't see the forethought to give me one. Otherwise everyone else in my party had a great meal. More...
We went to Popoli for my wife's birthday. We were greeted right when we walked in. The hostess explained that our table was almost ready (showed up a little early for reservation). We waited a few minutes and then got seated. The server showed up after a proper amount of time to look over the drink menu, which is very through. We ordered drinks, which showed up promptly. We then ordered an appetizer and our entrees at the same time. The appetizer came out timely and the the rest of the food was delayed well enough for us to enjoy it. We ordered another round of drinks and finished our meal. Time for desert. We ordered a creme brulee, which was delicious. Great time. We will definitely go back!! More...
Fantastic service! My pasta was fantastic. My husband was pleased with his steak but was expecting a bit better quality for the price. Overall, I'd recommend for a date night. Great find! More...
This was our first time eating here. What a pleasant evening! Our meals were great and we splurged for dessert. We couldn't finish the tiramisu it was so big! Plus we were given a tour by Molly and Natalie, our waitress, was very attentive. The atmosphere is very Frank Lloyd Wright with Grant Wood-like paintings. Both the artist and the architect taught at the Art Institute of Chicago. Well worth a visit and a meal! More...
There is something about eating at Popoli's that we always enjoy. Sitting in the booth by the window is so relaxing watching people walk by at the amphitheater. The wine is always delicious and the service is excellent. We will be back again and again. More...
Went here for our anniversary dinner on a Monday evening. Simply outstanding. Service was spot-on. I had the filet with scalloped potatoes and asparagus - divine. My wife had the fish tacos, which were also excellent. Finished the meal with tiramisu (made in-house) and espresso. Quite expensive, but an amazing experience from start to finish. And I shouldn't forget the beautiful architecture and murals. More...
I love going by here. The beet salad is a favorite. The ambiance is amazing, and service is excellent
you will be very HAPPY , just try it !!! Awesome, historical, lovely
Calamari was awesome!! It came with spicy marinara, which was really spicy and lemon alioli. Seafood risotto was mediocre. (I wish it had more flavor but the seafood was cook perfectly. Fillet was great and flavorful. More...
Great food in a largely intact Louis Sullivan-designed bank building. Our only complaint was that the service was slow, and the restaurant was not crowded. I would return because the food was so good. More...
Great decor in old historic building, nice bar area, great food, great soundtrack.
The food was prepared spot on and well balanced. Our waitress was able to answer all questions about the menu items. Our waters stayed full and our waitress only checked on us when she needed to, unlike a chain reataurant where they typically ask you about the meal when your mouth is full of food and then walk away before you could answer. The staff at popolis was friendly and genuinely cared about our experience. Our dinning experience was nearly 2 hours and we felt satisfied with the meal portions. The tiramisu is the best ive ever had in the last 25 years. Ill be going back! More...
Servers Josh and Stephan made the whole dining experience Top Notch! The food was great, the alcohol selection is awesome and the music was outstanding! Great Hidden Gem downtown Cedar Rapids! Awesome More...
The food was wonderful and the staff very friendly and accommodating! I would highly recommend!
Went here for a college graduation celebration. The food was amazing, the service spectacular and ambiance was perfect. We were afraid being a Saturday night that it would be loud but we were in the corner and it was quiet and great for conversation. Wish we had found this restaurant before my son left the area. Pleasant supper club atmosphere. Bar area separated from dining area with frostedglass partition which cut down on noise. Great menu. Service courteous and attentive.
We went here for our wedding dinner and it was a great experience. We ate in the vault which was so perfect for a private party. Highly recommended, will be returning! More...
Food and service great. Would go back. Husband thought he should have gotten a larger portion for the money but my son and I were totally satisfied.
Excellent waitstaff. Went above and beyond to ensure a good experience when I found the shrimp tacos to be a bit too spicy for me. Great menu choices, especially the vegetable salads and sides. Do not skip the crime brûlée More...
I am from out of town and this was a great dining experience and am very glad we visited Popoli. We were met by a friendly hostess who was very informative about the history of the building and the Jude (the manager) was very friendly and accommodating. There was a slight hiccup with our meal and he personally came out to let us know and made up for it before we even knew there was a delay. The soup, bread, and the sirloins were spectacular! But there couldn't be enough said about the powerful historic atmosphere with just the right amount of modernization. I have already recommended this place 3 times tonight before writing this review. Check it out. Bring a date or the family and check out the awesome vault and money counting room. More...
We went for a special occasion, the service was excellent from the moment we entered. The staff extremely welcoming and attentive. Our waitress was great! She took great care of our table of 10. She was extremely knowledgeable of the menu. Each suggestion she offered was excellent. We had a great experience and will be back. More...
Unbelievably delicious cuisine, beautiful restaurant! Fantastic service, we will be back.
Are in the vault where my book club met. Waitress was extremely courteous and efficient. Ordered the fennel sausage flatbread they was excellent. My budget would not allow me or my friends to eat a full meal there as it was pricey. I would suggest they add more affordable items to their menu. More...
Great meals tonight! This restaurant could be at home in any of our largest cities. Well done!
Wonderful venue in the downtown riverfront district. Superb service!
Overall our dining was great, anniversary dinner, nice atmosphere, quiet, service was great and we enjoyed it! Definitely recommend.
We loved our recent visit to Popoli's with our "Dinner Club" partners (2 couples who dine together every other Thursday night.) This was the best of our 3 visits. Service has been spotty in the past, not so tonight. Joshua was excellent without being at all intrusive. 3 of us ordered mushroom risotto with tenderloin, and one the featured Chicken dish. All were excellent! The Malbec and Sauvignon Blanc were good and salted caramel creme brulee was enough for two. For two entrees, 2 glasses of wine, 1 shared dessert and 2 coffees our total was $88. Will definitely go again. More...
Everything was great.. We had customers in and all went well..
Well above most other restaurants in Cedar Rapids. The food taste lime authentic northern Italian food. There is a major difference between the two. Northern is more chief type. So go and enjoy one of the best dinning facilities in our town More...
Food:The focaccia and butter were savory and interesting. A little dry. But the butter was great. Ordered the daily special "bruschetta"-salmon, Boursin cheese, herbs on crostini-it was delicious. Sauvignon Blanc-tasted like it was open for a while...Traditional Carbonara: OMG. One of the best Carbonara as outside of Italy that I've ever had A must have! Berry-Rhubard Crisp: lacking the "crisp" but the fruit, ice cream and homemade whipped cream were good. Service:My server deserves a 5/5 stars. The only reason I didn't give Popoli 5 stars. The manager stood behind the bar condescendingly scolding a staff member in ear shot of customers. I find this to be so unprofessional. Take them off the floor. I don't want to hear it while I'm enjoying my dinner. More...
This was our second visit to Popolis and it was fantastic both times. We ordered an appetizer to share, two salads, enterees, and two desserts. I loved the mozzarella caprese salad, but it was too large for one person! Next time, my husband and I will share a salad. I ordered the bacon wrapped pork loin which was perfect. My husband ordered the humongous lasagna. We definitely had it for leftovers the next day. I can't say enough about the salted caramel creme brûlée. The ambience is lovely and quiet. Service and drinks were also very good. We will continue to visit Popolis! More...
Our dinner was excellent. From bread service to the meal itself we were extremely pleased. The fried calamari with lemon aioli is a new favorite. We also loved the prime rib and traditional carbonara. Drink selections are unique and delicious. The service was outstanding, attentive but not intrusive. The restaurant was full but never too loud or crowded. More...
Came into town for a business dinner and was very happy with Popoli. Hit all the right notes. Good food. Great service. Server was very sensitive to the sort of dinner we were having. Nice looking dining room and bar. Look forward to next visit. More...
Everything about our experience was phenomenal. The General Manager delivered two of our courses and checked on us a few times. Had a great energy and you could tell he truly cared! Great atmosphere, great food, and amazing service. I chose the establishment for celebrating my wife's birthday, they did u not disappoint. We will definitely be dining here again soon. Thank you for making our experience both memorable and fun. More...
My husband ordered the pork chop special and would highly recommend. I ordered the shrimp artichoke pasta with capers and gave it a 4. I took a good portion of my meal home and it was even better the next day - as many pasta dishes are. The calamari was an excellent choice as our appetizer and the caramelized brussel sprouts were outstanding as a side to our entrees. My husband has a particular way he likes his Manhattan made, and the bartender nailed it. More...
Very much enjoyed Popoli's food! We will dine there again soon!
I have to admit, we've been disappointed with Popili's in the past. But with a new manager this is now at the top of my list of places to go. The service was fantastic and the food was incredible. We brought our own wine so the overall cost was very reasonable. I highly recommend this Popoli's! More...
Had a great birthday meal at Popoli's. Great service, great food, great friends! View of the river was lovely! Wine bottle sale was a treat too!
everything was super especially the bottle of Caymus!
We had a wonderful experience at our business dinner. They put us in the vault room even though we had not requested it. All the guests were very impressed. Thank you Popoli's! More...
Taste of food was palatable for the price. My husband ordered rigatoni with spicy sausage.... Disappointed that the meal was lacking any spicy flavors.
Had the filet and it was excellent. Service was also fantastic.
The food was fabulous. The bread and herbed butter was so good, that I could have made a meal out of it. The décor was beautiful and very tastefully done.
Waiter was very nice. Bar service seemed a bit slow. A couple of mistakes on checks and brought out wrong dessert. We spoke about 2 different choices and I think he got mixed up and brought out wrong one. We didn't even mention it because it was not a big deal and everything was good. It was very cold where we sat and the women's bathroom was like a meat locker. Also the windex that they were using to clean other tables near us was overpowering. Actually made me cough. I am not usually too fussy but figured for the amount of money we spent I should mention it. Overall a very enjoyable experience and the food was excellent. More...
Been there Four times and enjoyed every time. Great service every time.
I've never been disappointed with service at Popoli, whether it be for a large business dinner or a quiet date night with the spouse. Jude is always fantastic and is very accommodating. Highly recommend the steak. My only disappointment is they got rid of the New York Strip, but I got the ribeye and it was still fantastic. More...
Delicious food, wonderful drinks, great service!! Will definitely return.
We were giving a gift card for our wedding to Popolis. Normally we would not go to a restaurant like Popolis. The service was very good. If you want an intimate date maybe too good as someone checked on us frequently. The food was good, but our options were limited. We checked out the menu in advance so we could determine what was in each dish. My wife does not eat food that is too spicy and neither of us eat asparagus. Most of their dishes had asparagus. To my delight, they did have a couple evening specials that also got added to my list of items I might try. My wife had the meatballs and I ordered the swordfish. Her meatballs were a little too spicy for her but she managed to eat most of them (they were large and I believe she had 5 in total). My swordfish had a sauce on it. One half was moderate and the other half had a thicker coating. All in all we had more than enough food and it tasted good. We topped the evening off by getting a piece of the rhubarb pie (one of my wife's favorites). She said it was good and she really enjoyed it. I choice to skip the desert this evening. All in all for what it is we thought the experience was good. Our biggest complaint about the nicer restaurants in the corridor is that almost all the selections on the menu are a fancy dish. There are no items that are more of a traditional family restaurant. Popolis could easily add a 5 cheese lasagna to their menu with an Italian sausage. Maybe make a sirloin without all the seasoning on it. There are many people that have food allergies or cannot tolerate the items used to flavor the dishes. Again this is not a knock specifically about Popolis, but more about restaurants of this caliber. I feel my wife and I would frequent these types of venues more often if they had a few basic dishes to accompany the fancy ones.We would encourage our friends to try this place provided they liked the fancier dishes. More...
For the price, the food ought to be exceptional and, unfortunately, it didn't meet the mark. The atmosphere was perfect as I was looking for a quieter venue to take my family for a special dinner prior to our girls heading back to school. This was my first visit. Although disappointed, I would give it another shot. Another issue, apparently the restaurant offers 2 for 1 tap beers after 4:00 PM (according to website). Waitress never told us about this. I just expect more for an expensive restaurant. More...
My husband and I went for our 18th Wedding Anniversary and the food was out of this world and the entire staff and chef made it so special for us. Great ambiance , romantic and modern. More...
Excellent food, little on the pricey side. The building is really nice, built in an old bank. Very neat atmosphere.
I had been wanting to try Popoli for while now and have never gotten around to it so I was excited when two of my girlfriends suggested grabbing dinner there before heading to a local theater. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door and got seated right away. While we had reservations for 5:30 we probably didn't need them as the place didn't start filling up until closer to 7:00.We had amazing service throughout our meal. Our waiter checked on us just enough to make sure we never had to seek him out to order, get more drinks, etc., but not so much that he was overbearing and annoying as can sometimes happen. He had a lot of great suggestions, joked around with us and didn't rush us at all even though we camped at our table for almost 2 hours. Now for the food. Growing up on the west coast I'm very picky when it comes to seafood and I've found it really hard to find quality seafood in Cedar Rapids. With that being said the steamed muscles that we started off with were amaaazing. It was a large serving, more than enough for the three of us to share. Two of us got the prime rib, which was the special that night, and our other friend ordered a New York strip. Everything was cooked exactly as we ordered it. The waiter let us know that it may take a little longer since one of the steaks was ordered medium-well which we were fine with.I have family coming into town next week for the holidays and have already told them that we will be visiting Popoli at some point during their stay. Food and service was great, had the flat bread pizza and a specialty cocktail
The duck breast was excellent. Ordered oyster as an appetizer, they were fresh and tasty.
Excellent food and service. Went there before a concert. Had plenty of time to spare. Would highly recommend for a special night out!
My husband reserved "the vault" room for my birthday. This used to be an old bank; the atmosphere is really cool. Small enough to feel intimate but big enough to not feel crowded. There was a group of ten of us. We received incredible service all night. The food was good, but pricey. The cocktails were the best part! Delicious! It's great for special occasions or date night. Check it out! More...
This is a special occasion place for us and it has never failed in that regard. Our waiter, Fertig?, was excellent . We really appreciated his recommendations. It was a very nice evening.
The prime rib special was outstanding and great service.
Good drinks, reasonably good service, and the food was pretty good. It doesn't blow your socks off, but very respectable.
Great atmosphere and delicious gourmet food. They made vegan meals for my wife and I, they were expertly prepared but they could use some protein (beans, tempeh or tofu).
Too long between visits - food fantastic. Interesting menu - difficult to make a choice there were so many very appealing choices. The calimari left us wanting more; the chard and salmon were an innovative pairing; every dish was outstanding - not one person wished they had ordered something different. All talked about next visit to try something else on menu because it sounded so good. The desserts shared - creme brulees - salted caramel and lemon blueberry - were good but salted caramel won hands down. There was not a crumb left of the chocolate item. The RED OCTOBER cocktail was an outstanding start. Nice to have Cedar Ridge bourbon featured - a fave of ours! The service was impeccable - friendly but not intrusive - made us feel right at home. Nice to have table visits by manager and other staff to see how we liked our selected items. We will make certain to have far less time between future visits! Would love to see a return of luncheon hours and hope the new condos provide source of more traffic to make it so! More...
I made a reservation but when I got there, it was closed because of the flood.
We had a very enjoyable meal and our server was very attentive to our table. The bruschetta had wonderful flavor and all of our meals were well prepared. They are happy to accommodate changes to ingredients to suit your palate. Overall a great experience! More...

Excellent food. Great service. Enjoyed our wedding anniversary dinner complete with a scrumptious dessert. Highly recommend for a special occasion.

I had driven by a few times so we decided to go for our wedding anniversary. The waiter was fun and friendly. Food was presented well. Very unique building. I have already recommended it. More...
Once again enjoyed the visit. Our group of 6 sat in "the vault". The noise from the bar area echoed a lot into the vault area but most likely because the floor in the bar is stone. I did notice the restaurant made attempts to design the vault area to reduce the sound. Not sure what can be done in the bar area to reduce the noise in the bar area. Throw rugs? The noise was a distraction but did not ruin the visit. More...
Met my husband here for lunch on my birthday, and it was the perfect date. I normally hate going downtown, but there was plenty of parking. The building is an old bank with a lot of the original decor, really beautiful inside and well maintained. We sat in a booth by the window, and the best part was there was a super cute tiny bat hanging in the widow just outside. This is a business lunch spot, so I am glad I was in business casual. The menu was overpriced and small, but it is such a fun spot that it is worth the little plurge once in a while. I got the mac&cheese and added chicken. It was seriously amazing. More...
Great food - good service! Host even called me to suggest we arrive 15 to 30 mins early to insure we'd make it to our event on time.
Had dinner here before a show at the McGrath Amphitheater. Great location. The building, the bank vault and the historic mural are very interesting. Hubby had spaghetti and meatballs, which was good, but the highlight was angel hair pasta with a light lemon cream sauce, capers, and shrimp. Yum! More...
Loved it so much we came back for a second dinner! Service was excellent and entrees were outstanding both days, the only thing that was odd was the second day we ordered the same appetizer and they brought out bread like the day before but both were completely different from the previous day and unfortunately for the restaurant that was not to our benefit, however my mom and I had an amazing time both times !!
We made reservations at Popoli primarily to see the architectural restoration not really knowing much about the restaurant itself. Not only did we find the architecture and interior design to be exquisite but our dining experience was five star as well. The menu was contemporary, interesting and varied and the prices reasonable. Our food was not only presented in an aesthetic fashion but it was delicious . Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Our dinners were served at the right pace and we were not rushed nor did we feel like we were waiting too long. There is not one thing we would change. Everyone at Popoli was friendly and helpful and the experience was nothing short of wonderful!! More...
The food was good, but expensive. Drinks were reasonable. I would recommend that people look around the restaurant. Nice historical facts and murals.
In town for business and we had a fantastic dinner at Popoli! The appetizers were second to none...we ordered Calamari and the ahi tower. For dinner we had the filet and the Iowa pork chop. All the food was well prepared and tasted great. The service was impeccable. Don't miss a dinner at this spot! More...
Amazing steak, coupled with Guinness on tap, awesome staff, and a lot really cool ambiance. The restaurant is an old bank building and listed in the historical places registrar. During the flood the bank was half underwater. Our group had dinner in the "vault" and got a tour of the safe deposit box vault which has been converted into the wine cellar. Would definitely come back and would recommend this as a first choice for any out of town traveler. More...
We had a great dinner at Propolis! We always get a booth, which is so cozy and fun to watch the crowds over at McGrath Amphitheater. The wine choices were nice and I was sooooo happy to say that the beet salad was back on the menu. This alone probably could have brought me back in to Propolis! I usually get fish, but today ordered the filet, medium rare. It was delicious. My husband ordered a filet as well, but ordered medium. It was a bit too cooked for his taste, so if you like it pink order medium rare at this restaurant. The new management was so kind to us and checked on us a lot. We will return! More...
The food was absolutely incredible. We had the salmon bruschetta for an appetizer, the pork porterhouse and shrimp piccata for entree, and flourless chocolate cake for desert. All complimented by expertly made cocktails. More...
I'm on a restrictive diet these days (no eggs, dairy or gluten), but was thrilled with our most recent experience at Popoli. Everything is made fresh, so the wait staff/kitchen was very accommodating! I ordered the Chicken Peperonata served with risotto without butter or cheese. It was delicious and extremely satisfying. My husband ordered the Rigatoni ala Vodka, his favorite, and loved it. He ordered a side of the sour cream mashed potatoes and said they were great.P.S. They have gluten free pasta available to sub in for any pasta dish More...
Well done contemporary interior, great service and good food.
great service, cordial staff, excellent cocktails tailor made for the occasion
Under new GM management -,this is just the best food, apps and drinks -,it can't be put into words!!! We had taken a "break" from Popoli's after one "so-so" dining experience. We were pleasantly surprised. It was dead inside the restaurant as BBQ Roundup was going on, but luckily that gave us all the better service! The food was great this visit. I had the beet salad and salmon. It was very nice. My husband had the spaghetti and he loved the spicy meatballs! The wine list was great and the booth was cozy. We will be back again. More...

All of the food at popoli is amazing, but my favorite is the Carbonara!
Great food and waitstaff. Jet the mixologist is amazing at his craft. One complaint: there is no need for big screen TVs in this restaurant. I could see if there were on during the day but turned off for night, but they were on at 7:00 on a Friday evening. One was on the wall in our corner and was a bit distracting. More...

Great bar mixology. Excellent environment. Great food!
Hosted a dinner party in the private dining toom called the vault for 7 women friends on a Monday night. First time for 5 of the 7. We had exceptional service by Jesse and our food was consistently good. One friend was thrilled to enjoy gluten free pasta and the chef accommodated all her other food allergies. I enjoyed the tart and sweet POM martini, calamari, and shrimp piccata. Other hits at the table included the carbonara and the salty caramel creme brulee. The Sullivan designed building is beautiful and the restoration of the space is superb. Normally to reserve the vault, there is a minimum charge. Thankfully, the manager was willing to waive the minimum as it was a 5:30 pm Monday night reservation and the restaurant was pretty empty. This kind of customer service will secure my return. Please join me in keeping this place going and stop in for some great italian dishes. More...
First and foremost; the food was amazing! The Cornish game hen was the best I've ever had. It was very tender and perfectly prepared. The flourless chocolate torte was a great way to end the meal. Their recently added chef has helped turn the food around. Additionally, the atmosphere of this establishment is very romantic and the history of the building is fascinating! More...
I went with my family last week to Popoli. The building was beautiful and our Dinner was fantastic! We were told they were revamping their menu due to being under new management. We got to sample the bone in ribeye from the new menu, wow, it was amazing. Service was attentive and friendly. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourself. We can't wait to go back and try the new menu.
