Mike and his team did a fantastic job for my daughter's 16th party. Everything was last minute as we we're waiting on proofs to be sent from overseas but nothing was to much trouble. As a marketing company (Zebra Colour), we regularly need to source print for our clients. Sometimes we have completely finished artwork, sometimes the project is still at the early stages. Either way, we value Mike's advice on things like paper stock and finishes and maybe even the size and format if we're that early in the production process. You never feel that Mike just advises you to go down a route that's good for him, for instance, he's happy to suggest using a process he can't do, if it will be best for your literature. If this is the case, however, he'll always liaise with another company to provide you with a finished product.Having worked in the imaging world for years, I feel my colour management skills are ok but I'm more than happy to switch them off once I know Mike's taken over as the 'colour controller' and if I do make a stupid colour selection, Mike will always quietly point out that it will probably reproduce as the colour of muddy sludge. He'll point this out before he prints it, saving me money and embarrassment.Typos can happen to the best of people and some printers just print the files they receive, complete with typo. That isn't Mike's style, he'll endeavour to check the document for you; that's worth it's weight in gold.To sum up, I wouldn't hesitate to use anyone else for my printing and I would 100% recommend you do too; he's a nice chap, he knows what he's doing and he won't make you feel an idiot if you don't know everything about repro and printing. What information do you need from a client before you start work?
What the client wants to achieve in the main information we require, to make sure we can advise accordingly.
Basic details include size, thickness, quantity and any special finishes, but it really depends what you'd like us to print.
Don't worry if you aren't sure of the details like the weight of paper, just get in touch and we'll be happy to help.
What sorts of printing projects do you usually cater for?
We print a lot of leaflets, brochures, stickers, banners, exhibition stands, along with some less regular client specific work such as wedding stationery - from invitations through to table plans.
What do you love most about your job?
Seeing the project through from artwork to the final product is great (particularly if it was a tricky project), along with hearing back from happy customers. Hearing all the different printers whirring away always reassures me that we're busy.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I've been in the printing industry for 31 years and have always loved it, so when the opportunity arrived to start my own printing business I jumped at the chance. I now work alongside my wife in our family business, with a small team, doing something we all really enjoy.
Why should our clients choose you?
Clients choose us for the personal aspect of our business, with people rather than machines checking the artwork and the quality of the product before it goes to the client. They also enjoy being able to pick up the phone to discuss projects and 'pick our brains' on how they can achieve what they are looking for.
