Quality emergency care in a professional facility - it's not super close to home but outshines the other emergency vets in my neck of the woods. I brought my cat in a few weeks back when my vet referred her for an ultrasound. After looking at some x-rays, my vet thought she had a blockage that required surgery so we needed the ultrasound to confirm one way or the other.Shortly after we arrived and checked in, a vet tech took my cat's vitals to see if it was an urgent situation or if she could stand to wait a little longer, but overall the wait was still less than an hour. We left her overnight to be monitored and treated, and the vet called the next day with results. She does have a chronic condition that needs care but it's not looking like surgery is required any time soon. Glad to have their help and expertise - obviously it's expensive but we're lucky to have pet insurance to significantly defray the cost. More...

This is long review, so I'll get to the punchline--Dr. Jay saved our dog's life. My home vet referred us to Pieper Memorial for an ultrasound for our 12-year-old wheaten terrier, Spumoni, after having a bad Memorial Day weekend that landed us in her office the day after the holiday. With lab results that were all over the place, and a dog with zero energy and no appetite, our vet recommended that we go to Pieper for an ultrasound. There, we were given the grim news that Spumoni had a softball sized tumor on her spleen and something on her liver. The choice was to say goodbye to our dog or have surgery. We knew that Spumoni still had a lot of living to do as she was giving us some bursts of energy, plus, we were not ready to say goodbye. We scheduled a surgery consult with Dr. Jay. She was patient, knowledgeable, listened to our concerns, and answered all of our questions--even from my actuary husband who kept asking the same questions multiple times in a different way. She was confident that Spumoni was a great candidate for surgery. Dr. Jay was ready to take a vacation, so the option was to leave Spumoni there and have the surgery the next morning or wait until after she got back in two weeks. Time was of the essence because Spumoni was a ticking time bomb. We were also concerned because we had a wedding to attend that weekend and were worried about recovery and leaving her with our dog sitter. Our dog sitter is tops, but we weren't sure how Spumoni would handle the recovery. Pieper offers medical boarding--a total lifesaver. We left Spumoni at Pieper and she had the surgery the next morning (on a Wednesday) and we visited her on Thursday and Friday. My husband was traveling and visited her on his way home that Saturday morning before he came home for the wedding. The first day we visited, Spumoni was a bit tired. She was still on medication and I think she was glad to see us, but also glad to see us go home. However, on the subsequent days, her energy really returned and we took her home the Sunday after her surgery. In the meantime, on the day of the surgery, we heard from Dr. Sterman twice, who was absolutely fantastic and Dr. Jay later that evening. Dr. Sterman also called us daily from that point on to give us updates and answer any questions (and this time, I had a LOT). The team at Pieper is tops and it was totally worth the 45-minute drive for us. The best news of all was that the tumor on her spleen and growths on her liver were benign--#unbreakable. We will be forever grateful to Dr. Jay, Dr. Sterman, and the rest of the Pieper team for taking such excellent care of our beloved dog. More...

Honestly. For emergency visits at night it’s either a hit or a miss. Some of the night staff and vets are absolutely phenomenal, while others provide little to no information regarding your pet and care and avoid eye contact when you’ve been waiting for 4 hours and really just need an update. My first visit the vet couldn’t even be bothered to check over my cat in the room with me. And at no point did I ever even meet the vet that saw my cat. I was given poor care instructions by the woman who cashed me out and at no point did they ever even go over the issues or wounds with me that my cat had. So basically I brought a wounded and sick cat home and didn’t even know half of his injuries or really how to care for him. All that being said I swore I would never go back. But 4 days later when one of my cats paws was double the size it should be with no improvement — at 10pm at night and hardly able to function. I had no choice but to bring him back. From the woman I spoke to on the phone, to the vet, to the woman who cashed me out. I cannot say enough good things. I met the vet- she looked at my cat. Found several wounds that were never addressed originally. She took care of all of his issues and prescribed a new antibiotic since the original one didn’t seem to get the job done- probably since he had more injuries and wasn’t properly diagnosed the first time. 8 hours of my time and over $500. We will see how he recovers. More...

Dr. Krystian Dabrowski, Alphie and I thank you from the bottoms of our hearts for who you are. Getting a last minute appointment with you for my 16 year old kidney diseased cat with an infected tooth, you and I came up with a plan. By Monday evening she was on the mend. She’s been purring, eating and prancing (maybe it was the drugs). I’ll see you in two weeks for her follow-up. P-O staff, thank you for all you do. Could someone please share this with Dr. D. What a top notch and professionally run facility!! I had never been here before and was referred to an oncologist for confirmation of cancer in my Chihuahua. I arrived early, checked in and was taken in a few minutes ahead of my appointment time. 2 Vet techs came in right away and took his vitals, etc. I was told my Oncologist Dr. DeRegis, DVM, PhD, DACVIM would be in shortly. Within 5 minutes she came in. She was both friendly and pleasant. Dr. Examined my pet and upon visual observation, poking and prodding suggested the tumors may not be cancerous in fact said 80% of these are benign. VERY different opinion from the referring vet who was almost certain they were cancerous based on the rapid spreading and characteristics (hard). They took my dog in back for needle biopsy's and said they'd call me in 1-2 days. I checked out and my fee was EXACTLY as estimated - and I expected a bigger number because of the biopsy ($192). For an Oncologist consult with biopsy that's a reasonable fee in my opinion. I paid and left. On time, within budget, super professional, very well staffed office / facility earns 5 Stars and 4 paws up from this Yelper!   2 days later I got a call that the tumors are benign, just as Dr. suspected, and am scheduling to have them removed here. Excellent overall experience. More...

Fast service in an emergency situation. We walked in with our cat that may have a blockage and was impressed entering on how big and clean this place was.  Dogs everywhere yet very quiet and calm. They have a reception area where they will bring you to be checked in and there is a very nice coffee/tea station to help yourself.  I do recommend pressing the hot beverage button (next to the coffee one) it takes you to a screen for vanilla mochas !! Every employee was nice that we've met . Paperwork was a breeze and we were in a room within 20 minutes or so. The nurse worked quickly to take necessary information (temp/weight) and made our cat comfortable while doing so . The doctor came in and walked us through options . We chose the less expensive one (x-ray/overnight/fluids/ ) costing a whopping 1200.oo upfront. They are very pricey ,but I guess that's what all hospital situations cost right Thank goodness they take the CareCard (pet credit card ) Dr. Landroche was the best !!! More...

My 11 year old Lhasa had a swollen anal gland. I know super gross right? And I called her vet on a Sunday at 9pm and they redirected to Pieper. It was our first visit here. They were helpful on the phone, extremely patient and kind with both me and my babe. My dog was recently diagnosed with cancer and they were just so attentive and kind and thorough. I feel very comfortable bringing her back here if I ever needed to again. And as a bonus, my vet's office called me today to check up on my dog and my visit to another vet. I love this group. The doctors who took care of my beloved Cheeky, most recently Dr March, were stellar. It would be hardto find anyone tomatch their care, knowledge, willingness to support cat and human, moral support as well astechnical.   love this group. they have become more expensive since the new building and I was sad that there was nolonger a fund to which one might contribute to help other humans who had. trouble affording veterinary care. I appreciated being able to contribute to that in the past. Maybe they will re-institute!I still think they are the best around. They also have a sense when things are not going to improve and will be straightforward with people. at least my vets did.   I am grateful.God bless them all. More...

5 STARS and beyond. Words cannot express how amazing, professional, and caring Pieper Memorial Veterinary employees are. Nowadays most veterinarian offices that I have ran into only care about their own pocket, well NOT this one, they truly care about your pet! I brought in my 3 year old French Bulldog immediately from my regular vet thinking he had a spinal issue with my regular vet telling me that one wrong move could paralyze him. As terrified as I was, Dr. Perkins recommended an MRI to be performed which we did, while he was under she also did a spinal tap and blood work. Come to find out his results were much better than I expected, he did not have any herniated discs, he ended up having a completely different diagnosis. I would especially like to thank Dr. Jennifer Perkins, Shawn R who really went out of her way helping me with my pet insurance and payment process, Natalie, and Dennis. I am so beyond grateful for you all. Such an amazing team. I highly recommend Pieper Memorial Veterinary for anyone out there that needs true care for there animals!!! More...

Respectful of pet owners feelings and concerns. I have a cat who has become a Houdini when it comes to getting out of the splint on her front leg. When I arrived at Pieper they were treating a number of critical animals and I was warned of a long wait time. The front desk staff called to their other location in Madison and informed me there was only a short wait there if I wanted to go there instead. I was cautioned that the wait time could change in the time I departed Middletown and went to Madison.  I chose to stay as my cat was quiet and I did not want to risk her moving around too much in the carrier during the drive. Several other people chose to go to the other location. When our turn came the staff placed a new splint and were very good with handling my cat. More...

Giving 5 stars to the staff at Middletown Vet Hospital, especially Dr. Malek. He is wonderful with the sole (and soul) intention of doing the best for both our animals and their caretakers! All the staff terrific! Helpful, compassionate and always making life a little easier even during the worst times! After all that praise I have to say how very disappointed of the sale to Pieper. I was not happy having to go there only to feel like after diagnosing my dog with lymphoma, they were ready to push him through for chemo treatment right away, I felt like he was seen as a # and $$. After mulling over it I decided against chemo for a myriad of reasons, they made me feel like I was a horrible mom. Never a follow-up call to check on medication or status of my baby. The staff at Middletown Vet would never make me feel that way and I know from experience they would have called to see how my baby was doing. More...

We used Pieper Memorial for their emergency services when our cat had kidney stones. They provided excellent care and explained things fully to us. After surgery they sent the stones for testing and recommended an appropriate diet based on the results so we can hopefully prevent this issue in the future. Yes, we had to wait a bit, but like an ER for humans, emergent cases must come first. We were quoted roughly the same price for surgery here as we were another place, so price wise I'd say it was fair. Much like surgery without insurance for humans, surgery for animals is expensive. The doctors and specialists go through a lot of schooling, use expensive equipment, and medications aren't cheap. I'm glad the staff here was well trained and good at their job because our cat is back to his normal self and that's what matters. More...

Upon receipt of our new golden retriever from a qualified kennel and in need of an initial exam and related services, we chose Pieper because of their outstanding reputation and local access.  Before he turned one it became clear he had an unusual gait.  The long story short as he approaches his 2nd birthday is he has completed a lengthy process of care involving two significant surgeries that his recent final exam confirming that he has finished is care at the hospital area and his most recent three months of regular puppy activities has shown the results may have actually exceeded our expectations.  We are so thankful for the loving and special services performed by the entire team of professionals and support staff at Pieper, from the regular Veterinary services, to the hospital to the Thera-Pet staff.  We  can not say enough about how grateful we are, and of all the expert care we know takes place in front of us and behind the scenes, and how the love they all show our pup is ever present and so genuine, including one day when we crossed paths with a former employee who was there with her dogs. So first of all I will say that I will go to great lengths to get quality care for my pets.  I have both large and small animals (horses, chickens, dogs etc..)Piper Olsen over my years using them primarily as ER Vets then speciality and even for neurology, physical therapy and other specialities has always EXCEEDED my expectations for their quality of service, knowledge and consideration! My family has over a decade of experience using them.Salem Valley is my regular vet, but in ER for my dogs (greyhounds very sensitive breed) or specialty that Salem doesn't support, Piper is my go to and are knowledgeable and have always done right by us.I had another ER hospital mis-diagnose my mini pin once and I rushed her to Piper, they performed an MRI and brain surgery that saved her life and returned her to normal.  MRI's for pets are no different than for people- yes they cost $$ this isn't a charity- their facilities may be nice but they have the specialties to help your pets. Owing, caring and vetting is a responsibility that comes with a cost. Sorry, not sorry. Care Credit can help you with those costs and they'll help you sign up for it right there.I have been an interim customer of Piper and highly recommend the facility for special, boarding and ER needs. I raced my dog to the hospital because she accidentally ingested some medications.  Once there, they research the medications and baseload her bodyweight, determine that the medications were not harmful. They checked her vitals and gave me some signs to look for over the next few days.  Seems pretty standard for a hospital. However, what I was really impressed with and thankful for was that there was no charge for this consult.  Even though the meds turned out to not be harmless, they could've very easily given something to induce vomiting and then charge me a million bucks for it.  I've been to an emergency vet hospital that bass they just charge me for walking in the door. This was not the place. The hospital also has a really big waiting room that is equipped with a vending machine, complementary coffee, computers, and a play area for kids.As much as I hope I never have to return there, if my pets ever need emergency care, I will not hesitate to bring them in. This vet is absolutely incredible. The vets care about your pet like it's their own child. They always took the best care of our dog and two cats, and always spoke about how great they were. It was very obvious that they really cared about the animals, and that was why they were there. The last time we brought him to the vet, we came too late and he passed away from a seizure. They sat us down and made sure that we were okay. A few weeks later, we received a condolence card. They cared SO much. We were thanking ourselves for this vet already, and after this, we will never leave. Our vet before this only cared about money, and didn't know how to handle dogs. I don't know how we would have felt if we had still been there- we sure wouldn't have gotten a card, let alone an actual "I'm sorry." We are loyal to this vet, as they have taken incredibly good care of all of our pets, and are even helping us find the best place to adopt a dog. More...

The tech who taught me how to treat my cat at home was very patient, encouraging, and thorough in her explanation.  I received nothing but the best possible care from the Pieper Olson team.  Thank you all so much. My 10 pound, 9 year old shihthzu had a minor twist injury to her back, which resulted in paralysis of her hind legs, and an inability to urinate.  We brought her to a local emergency vet in the small town that we live in.  They did digital radiographs, which showed no fractures, but some arthritic changes.  She was put on rymadil, and referred to our regular vet. Our regular vet was not there the day we brought her in, the vet that was ther got her an appointment with Dr. Hammond at Pieper.  It was difficult to express her bladder, but I was able to gently express her bladder if I took her outside, which indicated that she had signal to her bladder, which was a good sign.  Dr. Hammond was wonderful.  I had my vet's office forward the email the radiographs to Pieper, which he evaluated.  He gave me the option to take her off of the Rimadyl, which apparently does not help with spinal cord injuries. He could not put her on steroids until she had been off of NSAIDs for a week.  He gave me the option of waiting, or having her receive an MRI, which I opted for.  I picked her up the next day, and had a consult with Dr. Hammond, at which time he discussed the results of the MRI.  She has 2 herniated, degenerated discs, the one at L2 sits very close to the spinal cord.  The trauma caused the disc to hit he cord, causing inflammation.  I was given exercises to do with her several times per day, as well as medication to relax her bladder to make it easier to express.  At the next appointment, he would evaluate her for steroids.  As the week progressed, she regained more and more use of her hind legs.  By the time we went back, she was wobbly walking again!  He was so impressed with her progress, he opted not to risk the side effects of steroids.  She has continued to improve.  Although she is not able to climb stairs ur jump up on the couch, she knows her limitations.  He has given me the option to use gabapentin, which I rarely use, as a dog needs to use the pain signal to set her own limitations.  She will never be the way she was prior to her injury, but I still have my baby.  I am partially disabled, and though I have 4 dogs, 2 are large dogs, one is geriatric, (nearly 17). Coco, my little dog is my constant companion.  Thank you Dr. Hammond for giving me my baby back, and thank you to the wonderful staff, who were compassionate, took time with me, answering my questions, giving me the exercises, working me until I was comfortable.  Thank you for not "rushing into unnecessary surgery", or risking her being on steroids, especially since she has a history of Lyme disease, in spite of annual Lyme vaccines. Cannot say enough good things about this place! We brought our dog to the emergency room here when he was experiencing severe pain, muscle spasms, and stiff neck like symptoms. After visiting his own vet and other ER's we were referred here. Dr. Hammond was the neurologist who saw him and was very helpful! He examined him, and explained what his initial thoughts were and potential issues and next steps. He was calm and supportive even when my fiancé and I were on the verge of tears. We had to leave our dog there overnight and we're please to learn they have 24 hour surveillance in their ICU and we could call and ask how he was doing at any point. He had an MRI done the next day and by that afternoon we were talking treatment options for a herniated disc with the vet. His MRI was shown and explained to us in detail as was his prognosis. Going forward the vet has been available through phone calls and emails whenever we have questions and for follow ups. We cannot thank them enough for their great work, how friendly the staff is and Dr. Hammond for being available and thorough! More...

They always take good care of our babies :)Sometimes you will get a bit of attitude or a long wait when you call on the phone to make an appointment or with a question. I try not to let that bother me too much, as most who work there are personable when you go in. Most importantly, the vets are wonderful!! We try to always see Dr. Fayette, as she is great with our dog and cat. But we have gone for emergency visits and have seen other doctors, who are also caring and sweet with the animals. They have long weekday hours and are also open on the weekends. And hopefully we never need it, but it is nice to have a 24 hour animal hospital so close to home and attached to our normal vet's office. We have also used the boarding and grooming services in the past, with no compaints. More...

On July 27th my dog Tate was diagnosed with Stage 4 B-Cell Lymphoma.  After consulting with Dr. DeRegis, we decided to move ahead with the CHOP Protocol to give Tate an opportunity to live longer than the projected 1-2 months.  I was confident that I made the right decision and hoped that Tate could tolerate the treatments.  Given that he had just turned 4-years old and I consider him my child, the thought of giving up was not an option for me.  From the beginning, Dr. DeRegis and the staff at Pieper have been exceptional.   No matter how late in the evening it is or how exhausted they are, the collaboration and communication has been remarkable. From Deanna and Ann Marie, the oncology nurses, to Anne and the rest of the front desk staff; everyone has been professional while being beyond thoughtful and caring.  It is safe to say, that the staff have grown to love Tate!  Ironically, Tate looks forward to going to all his appointments and seeing his human, canine and feline friends at Pieper (he especially likes the kitties!).We were relieved that despite the unfavorable side effects of chemotherapy and two hospitalizations, Tate has managed remarkably well.  The compassion, work ethic and wisdom that both the staff at Pieper and Dr. DeRegis have displayed has made such an incredible difference in Tate's outcome so far.  Tate is certainly not out of the woods.  Currently he is in remission and feeling great!  I'm optimistic that he may defy the statistics.  If your pup is diagnosed with cancer, Pieper is the place to take him/her! As someone who lives by the academic calendar, I spend summer vacation in Connecticut, even though I live in Delaware during the school year. But with a seven year old basset hound who's been receiving chemotherapy for advanced lymphoma, I faced the question of where and how I would continue her treatment if I was in the New Haven area for three months. After doing some research online about where there were veterinary oncologists in Connecticut, I decided that Pieper made the most sense as the place to continue my dog's treatment. I'm so glad I chose them, because the care that my dog has received with them has been terrific. Dr. DeRegis, the veterinary oncologist, is fantastic; she spent quite a lot of time with my dog and me during our first appointment so that she could really get to know my pup, her history, and how we had been approaching her treatment in Delaware. (She also had spent a lot of time on my dog's case even before our appointment, reading through her file at length and talking with the veterinary oncologist in Delaware.) In the weeks of treatment since then, Dr. DeRegis has been great about answering my questions and listening to my concerns, from the important to the perhaps ridiculous. She's also continued to coordinate with our vet in DE so that there won't be any problems in terms of continuity of care when we head back there. While my dog has only been her patient for the three months of the summer, it's clear Dr. DeRegis has been giving the very best care to my dog. Aside from my dog's amazingly good health (given that she's being treated for advanced lymphoma), the proof of the great care she's getting is in how happy she is to visit Pieper; she's actually a very shy dog until she feels really comfortable with people, but by our second visit, she was wagging her tail as we entered, eagerly going to talk to all the wonderfully friendly and kind staff, vet techs and nurses, and Dr. DeRegis. if you're a dog parent, a veterinary oncologist is someone you hope you never have to meet, but if you do, you want someone who is terrific, and Dr. DeRegis and the staff at Pieper are definitely that. I'm so glad this place is relatively close to us!  This is a 24 hour emergency vet service that is located on Randolph Road in Middletown. Our little chihuahua had an allergic reaction to her shots from earlier in the day, and we had to rush her to a vet.  They were quick, professional and very friendly.  They even clipped her nails for us at no charge!  As far as prices go, it costs $105 to see the vet before midnight, and $115 after midnight.  Any shots/procedures are extra.  I will definitely go to this place first if we ever have a late night emergency again. I love the vets at the Middletown Vet Office. I bring my Guinea pigs here when they are sick and for wellness checks. I live about 40 minutes away but feel they are worth it for the care of my furry crew. Dr Albin and Dr Robbins are excellent exotic vets they are caring compassionate and put the best interest of your pet first.Guinea Pigs shouldn't be seen by vets not experienced with exotics as they have special requirements for medicines and surgery care. I would highly recommend this office for your exotics health care. More...

I live 35 miles away from the Middletown office butI wouldn't take my dog anywhere else. Doctors are awesome. They're great with my dog who is a nervous wreck about going to the vet's office (because of previous experiences with another vet) and they're very respectful toward me. The staff is pleasant and efficient.I've used Boarding Facility twice and had no problems. They gave my boy report cards for each day he was there along with his activities and who he hung out with during doggie daycare. Very agreeable staff to my special requests. More...

The wait can be long to check in and out and that's a bit annoying, but if your animal is sick they are on call 24/7. The kennel is amazing and the staff at the vet hospital are very nice. The veterinarians are kind, caring and compassionate. They're pricey but worth it; when you see the staff snuggling your sick animal you know they're in the very best of care. More...
