My dog is never nervous coming here, staff is great, and they will even take time to thoroughly answer any and all questions over the phone! I would recommend them to anyone
I would highly recommend Pieper Olson veterinary hospital Middletown CT. The entire staff is understanding, reasonable price. The receptionist are sincere, they really go above and beyond making you feel at ease when your animal is hurting. They are not only a receptionist, they should get paid more for being a therapist for the adults in distress about their animal family. It was my first time at this veterinary , it's a hike for me but I will always bring my furry friend to Pieper -Olsen. Thank you TAMMY More...
Love the staff! Awesome customer service!
We trust the implicitly with our pets' care. 100% your best bet for your four legged family members.
Sondra Lintelmann Dellaripa
They are the gold standard for exceptional and compassionate care. They know so much more about our animals than any vet we have had and they stop at nothing to offer care plans for our pets. Just an amazing group.
Wonderful staff that's professional and organized. Never any issues taking our dog here for the past few years. Even after moving far away we still trek down to Middletown to get the pleasure of having our dog taken care of by this amazing staff. This veterinary practice is about the care of our pets NOT about corporate greed and $. Their prices are extremely reasonable and we are appreciative that their exceptional services are not expensive. Thank you P.O. for taking such good care of our dog. More...

Always amazing kind and helpful
We love this place. We were sent here by our vet because our dog was diagnosed with lymphoma. Dr Ho the oncologist is wonderful. The prices are decent and they don't run every test in the book unnecessarily so you can focus your dollars on treatment. We also had and emergency visit with him here and the Doctor who saw him was equally wonderful. More...
Our cat had a blockage and we last second had to get him here for an ultrasound. Opted to have surgery done at our place regular vet for cost but our experience at Pieper during an stressful situation was positive.
Quick, easy in/out, close to home. The vet was great!
Fantastic vet! Highly recommended.
Mixed feelings about this place. Very busy. Doctors and staff caring. Phone line confusing. Hard to visit hospitalized pet without an appointment. Billing system confusing. Overall though much better experience than other Vet Hospitals. Don't feel like you walked into an Auto repair shop. Everyone was compassionate and caring. More...
Very friendly staff! Vets are techs are caring and knowledgeable.
Great vets, reasonable rates. Great care for our dogs.
Not only have I had experience with this animal hospital with a family members pet, but my own as well. They are caring, and treat your pet as they would their own! That's very important for a pet parent! The primary care is great, and the appointments are scheduled quickly and they don't try to sell you things you don't need. They are priced very competitively with a wellness visit only 60$! They have an easy access building and keep animals separate, i.e. dog waiting area & cat waiting area. They also provide a leash for those who For some reason need one. I was very impressed with the overall service & facility. Everyone wss awesome and I'm glad I use them for my fur baby's health needs. More...

Was able to bring my kitten in for his shots and find some answers we had for him. I had to utilize the emergency side but they moved us to the regular side, and still charged us for the emergency side. But he's fine and that's the main concern. More...
Best veterinarians .... Wonderful facility... Most excellent Drs
I like the vet that I see for my pet bunny. I like that there is a separate waiting room where I dont have to be with the dogs on leashes.

Siri too passionate to the animals
Dr. Pieper was my family’s vet in the 60s so I have been taking my pets (I have had both dogs and cats) here for many years, first in Portland, then Middletown, and now in Essex. They have always been wonderful. My cats currently see Dr. Brienza in Essex. She is caring and knowledgeable. The vet techs and staff are always friendly, compassionate and handle my precious cats with care. Dr. Brienza has even had to euthanize one of my old kitties and she and the staff were very kind. My family has moved in and out of the area a few times, so we have used other veterinary practices, but we always return to Pieper-Olson when we can. More...
Overall me and my aunts experienced was really good they took care of our dog the only thing that we had a problem with was the older lady at the front desk with darker hair she was a little rude but we appreciate the help with our dog.
Great vet care!
Quality emergency care in a professional facility - it's not super close to home but outshines the other emergency vets in my neck of the woods. I brought my cat in a few weeks back when my vet referred her for an ultrasound. After looking at some x-rays, my vet thought she had a blockage that required surgery so we needed the ultrasound to confirm one way or the other.Shortly after we arrived and checked in, a vet tech took my cat's vitals to see if it was an urgent situation or if she could stand to wait a little longer, but overall the wait was still less than an hour. We left her overnight to be monitored and treated, and the vet called the next day with results. She does have a chronic condition that needs care but it's not looking like surgery is required any time soon. Glad to have their help and expertise - obviously it's expensive but we're lucky to have pet insurance to significantly defray the cost. More...

They are so good to our dogs
This is long review, so I'll get to the punchline--Dr. Jay saved our dog's life. My home vet referred us to Pieper Memorial for an ultrasound for our 12-year-old wheaten terrier, Spumoni, after having a bad Memorial Day weekend that landed us in her office the day after the holiday. With lab results that were all over the place, and a dog with zero energy and no appetite, our vet recommended that we go to Pieper for an ultrasound. There, we were given the grim news that Spumoni had a softball sized tumor on her spleen and something on her liver. The choice was to say goodbye to our dog or have surgery. We knew that Spumoni still had a lot of living to do as she was giving us some bursts of energy, plus, we were not ready to say goodbye. We scheduled a surgery consult with Dr. Jay. She was patient, knowledgeable, listened to our concerns, and answered all of our questions--even from my actuary husband who kept asking the same questions multiple times in a different way. She was confident that Spumoni was a great candidate for surgery. Dr. Jay was ready to take a vacation, so the option was to leave Spumoni there and have the surgery the next morning or wait until after she got back in two weeks. Time was of the essence because Spumoni was a ticking time bomb. We were also concerned because we had a wedding to attend that weekend and were worried about recovery and leaving her with our dog sitter. Our dog sitter is tops, but we weren't sure how Spumoni would handle the recovery. Pieper offers medical boarding--a total lifesaver. We left Spumoni at Pieper and she had the surgery the next morning (on a Wednesday) and we visited her on Thursday and Friday. My husband was traveling and visited her on his way home that Saturday morning before he came home for the wedding. The first day we visited, Spumoni was a bit tired. She was still on medication and I think she was glad to see us, but also glad to see us go home. However, on the subsequent days, her energy really returned and we took her home the Sunday after her surgery. In the meantime, on the day of the surgery, we heard from Dr. Sterman twice, who was absolutely fantastic and Dr. Jay later that evening. Dr. Sterman also called us daily from that point on to give us updates and answer any questions (and this time, I had a LOT). The team at Pieper is tops and it was totally worth the 45-minute drive for us. The best news of all was that the tumor on her spleen and growths on her liver were benign--#unbreakable. We will be forever grateful to Dr. Jay, Dr. Sterman, and the rest of the Pieper team for taking such excellent care of our beloved dog. More...
Everyone is always very professional and helpful..there is not a long wait time which I like .
Had an emergency yesterday with our new baby. We are in the wallingford area so unfortunately we went to the closest place which happens to be Central Hospital in North Haven. We will never go to this emergency service facility again. I took my baby out of there before they could either do more damage or kill him , and brought him to Pieper Olsen in Middletown. There, the Er Dr James Tipton was wonderful. He was calming, knowledgeable and very compassionate towards the awful experience we had been in all day. He made us feel like he truly cared about our baby and it was so refreshing to know that there are still vets out there that are in it for the animal care and not the money like Central Hospital in North Haven...Unfortunately he is an intern but I’m hoping that Pieper Olsen offers him a permanent position. It would be very wise of them to do so. We have 4 babies and I would leave my vet and bring them all to Pieper ( even though it’s out of the way)if he was there. Fantastic guy!!!!!!!! More...
They take good care of our pets. Pharmacy is accessible and not too expensive. They communicated with our doctor in East Haddam and had medication ready in 25 minutes.

excellent care for my epileptic pup
Honestly. For emergency visits at night it’s either a hit or a miss. Some of the night staff and vets are absolutely phenomenal, while others provide little to no information regarding your pet and care and avoid eye contact when you’ve been waiting for 4 hours and really just need an update. My first visit the vet couldn’t even be bothered to check over my cat in the room with me. And at no point did I ever even meet the vet that saw my cat. I was given poor care instructions by the woman who cashed me out and at no point did they ever even go over the issues or wounds with me that my cat had. So basically I brought a wounded and sick cat home and didn’t even know half of his injuries or really how to care for him. All that being said I swore I would never go back. But 4 days later when one of my cats paws was double the size it should be with no improvement — at 10pm at night and hardly able to function. I had no choice but to bring him back. From the woman I spoke to on the phone, to the vet, to the woman who cashed me out. I cannot say enough good things. I met the vet- she looked at my cat. Found several wounds that were never addressed originally. She took care of all of his issues and prescribed a new antibiotic since the original one didn’t seem to get the job done- probably since he had more injuries and wasn’t properly diagnosed the first time. 8 hours of my time and over $500. We will see how he recovers. More...

What a top notch and professionally run facility!! I had never been here before and was referred to an oncologist for confirmation of cancer in my Chihuahua. I arrived early, checked in and was taken in a few minutes ahead of my appointment time. 2 Vet techs came in right away and took his vitals, etc. I was told my Oncologist Dr. DeRegis, DVM, PhD, DACVIM would be in shortly. Within 5 minutes she came in. She was both friendly and pleasant. Dr. Examined my pet and upon visual observation, poking and prodding suggested the tumors may not be cancerous in fact said 80% of these are benign. VERY different opinion from the referring vet who was almost certain they were cancerous based on the rapid spreading and characteristics (hard). They took my dog in back for needle biopsy's and said they'd call me in 1-2 days. I checked out and my fee was EXACTLY as estimated - and I expected a bigger number because of the biopsy ($192). For an Oncologist consult with biopsy that's a reasonable fee in my opinion. I paid and left. On time, within budget, super professional, very well staffed office / facility earns 5 Stars and 4 paws up from this Yelper! 2 days later I got a call that the tumors are benign, just as Dr. suspected, and am scheduling to have them removed here. Excellent overall experience. More...

They were very helpful in directing me to people that could help me even though they couldn't.
The only place I'll bring my cats. There a little expensive, but they make up with understanding and quality care of the animals.
Super kind & helpful staff!
Fast service in an emergency situation. We walked in with our cat that may have a blockage and was impressed entering on how big and clean this place was. Dogs everywhere yet very quiet and calm. They have a reception area where they will bring you to be checked in and there is a very nice coffee/tea station to help yourself. I do recommend pressing the hot beverage button (next to the coffee one) it takes you to a screen for vanilla mochas !! Every employee was nice that we've met . Paperwork was a breeze and we were in a room within 20 minutes or so. The nurse worked quickly to take necessary information (temp/weight) and made our cat comfortable while doing so . The doctor came in and walked us through options . We chose the less expensive one (x-ray/overnight/fluids/ ) costing a whopping 1200.oo upfront. They are very pricey ,but I guess that's what all hospital situations cost right Thank goodness they take the CareCard (pet credit card ) Dr. Landroche was the best !!! More...

My 11 year old Lhasa had a swollen anal gland. I know super gross right? And I called her vet on a Sunday at 9pm and they redirected to Pieper. It was our first visit here. They were helpful on the phone, extremely patient and kind with both me and my babe. My dog was recently diagnosed with cancer and they were just so attentive and kind and thorough. I feel very comfortable bringing her back here if I ever needed to again. And as a bonus, my vet's office called me today to check up on my dog and my visit to another vet. This is customer service at its finest and maybe doctors offices should take a page from how vets offices operate. More...
Staff is very polite and nice. I've been attending this veterinary since 2006 and I'm one very happy customer and so my cat
I love this group. The doctors who took care of my beloved Cheeky, most recently Dr March, were stellar. It would be hardto find anyone tomatch their care, knowledge, willingness to support cat and human, moral support as well astechnical. love this group. they have become more expensive since the new building and I was sad that there was nolonger a fund to which one might contribute to help other humans who had. trouble affording veterinary care. I appreciated being able to contribute to that in the past. Maybe they will re-institute!I still think they are the best around. They also have a sense when things are not going to improve and will be straightforward with people. at least my vets did. I am grateful.God bless them all. More...

Helpful and kind staff that truly love animals.
5 STARS and beyond. Words cannot express how amazing, professional, and caring Pieper Memorial Veterinary employees are. Nowadays most veterinarian offices that I have ran into only care about their own pocket, well NOT this one, they truly care about your pet! I brought in my 3 year old French Bulldog immediately from my regular vet thinking he had a spinal issue with my regular vet telling me that one wrong move could paralyze him. As terrified as I was, Dr. Perkins recommended an MRI to be performed which we did, while he was under she also did a spinal tap and blood work. Come to find out his results were much better than I expected, he did not have any herniated discs, he ended up having a completely different diagnosis. I would especially like to thank Dr. Jennifer Perkins, Shawn R who really went out of her way helping me with my pet insurance and payment process, Natalie, and Dennis. I am so beyond grateful for you all. Such an amazing team. I highly recommend Pieper Memorial Veterinary for anyone out there that needs true care for there animals!!! More...
We have been here 3 times for routine visits. Every is kind and professional. They go out of their way to make sure both pets and owners are comfortable.
Respectful of pet owners feelings and concerns. I have a cat who has become a Houdini when it comes to getting out of the splint on her front leg. When I arrived at Pieper they were treating a number of critical animals and I was warned of a long wait time. The front desk staff called to their other location in Madison and informed me there was only a short wait there if I wanted to go there instead. I was cautioned that the wait time could change in the time I departed Middletown and went to Madison. I chose to stay as my cat was quiet and I did not want to risk her moving around too much in the carrier during the drive. Several other people chose to go to the other location. When our turn came the staff placed a new splint and were very good with handling my cat. More...

Giving 5 stars to the staff at Middletown Vet Hospital, especially Dr. Malek. He is wonderful with the sole (and soul) intention of doing the best for both our animals and their caretakers! All the staff terrific! Helpful, compassionate and always making life a little easier even during the worst times! After all that praise I have to say how very disappointed of the sale to Pieper. I was not happy having to go there only to feel like after diagnosing my dog with lymphoma, they were ready to push him through for chemo treatment right away, I felt like he was seen as a # and $$. After mulling over it I decided against chemo for a myriad of reasons, they made me feel like I was a horrible mom. Never a follow-up call to check on medication or status of my baby. The staff at Middletown Vet would never make me feel that way and I know from experience they would have called to see how my baby was doing. More...
Excellent service! Great veterinarians! Lots of compassion.
Highly-qualified compassionate staff. My 13 years old cat became ill quickly and I panicked. My vet in Middleton was closed and I was referred to pieper Olson emergency service. Wait time was minimal and the staff was thoughtful but very skilled with Wendy. The doctor discussed multiple options depending on my and thoroughly explained diagnostic and treatment options. Wendy is now fine. I recommend this facility with no reservations. They have an emergency hospital and routine care hospital which is separate from each other. I will be returning for wellness care for my 3 cats due to the quality and competent staff treatment. More...

I love our vet! Dr. Malek (not sure of spelling) is phenomenal!!!! The entire staff is supportive and understanding.
We had to put our last of 3 shitzzu fur babies on the road to the rainbow bridge. They were just awesome to me and my Dad. This was his little baby girl and he’s 6”3. He held her and then they took her and we made plans that once she crossed the bridge, they would give her ashes back to us to join her sister and brother on the shelf where they sleep after a long play day over the rainbow bridge. Very professional and helpful. Needed an emergency appt and they saw my cat within a half hour. Not cheapest option but definitely the best service and professionalism.
I was referred to Dr. Albin when I was trying to find a suitable exotic vet to neuter my guinea pig. It was over a two over drive from Massachusetts but entirely worth it. When I first arrived it was super busy and I was still greeted and brought back to check in. All the staff was exceptionally nice, especially the "guinea pig whisperer".I could not be more impressed with Dr. Albin though, from the moment he first walked in the door I had a good feeling about him. He was extremely patient and walked me through the whole procedure allowing time for all my questions. As for the neuter it went wonderfully, I was sent home with antibiotics (didn't get pain meds but we never needed them). When I did have a concern over the incision they managed to squeeze me in. I even made a mistake of when I would arrive and when I called to tell them I would be late, they still found of way for me to get seen. Thankfully, nothing was wrong and I was just being worried but I am still very appreciative of their and Dr. Albins flexibility. For anyone looking for an exotic vet I highly recommend Pieper-Olson. This place has been amazing in the care of our dog. From responding immediately from digestion of poison to the annoyance of our dog not like being touched. Great people. It was a selling point for us but this departure hasn't deterred up from continuing to use them. More...
We used Pieper Memorial for their emergency services when our cat had kidney stones. They provided excellent care and explained things fully to us. After surgery they sent the stones for testing and recommended an appropriate diet based on the results so we can hopefully prevent this issue in the future. Yes, we had to wait a bit, but like an ER for humans, emergent cases must come first. We were quoted roughly the same price for surgery here as we were another place, so price wise I'd say it was fair. Much like surgery without insurance for humans, surgery for animals is expensive. The doctors and specialists go through a lot of schooling, use expensive equipment, and medications aren't cheap. I'm glad the staff here was well trained and good at their job because our cat is back to his normal self and that's what matters. More...
My poor Molly caught her side on the corner of the screen door and cut herself badly. She needed surgery and my regular vet couldn't do it locally. I personally thought the prices were reasonable. I would recommend them a hundred times over. More...
Upon receipt of our new golden retriever from a qualified kennel and in need of an initial exam and related services, we chose Pieper because of their outstanding reputation and local access. Before he turned one it became clear he had an unusual gait. The long story short as he approaches his 2nd birthday is he has completed a lengthy process of care involving two significant surgeries that his recent final exam confirming that he has finished is care at the hospital area and his most recent three months of regular puppy activities has shown the results may have actually exceeded our expectations. We are so thankful for the loving and special services performed by the entire team of professionals and support staff at Pieper, from the regular Veterinary services, to the hospital to the Thera-Pet staff. We can not say enough about how grateful we are, and of all the expert care we know takes place in front of us and behind the scenes, and how the love they all show our pup is ever present and so genuine, including one day when we crossed paths with a former employee who was there with her dogs. While the hospital staff was very busy, everyone was so kind and genuine. Anytime you need to be at a facility like this it's never easy. Someone you love & care about who can't tell you how they feel needs to be there and your wallet can also take a hit. What makes it worthwhile is the care they give to the pet as well as the owner. It was a rainy and gloomy day when I brought my little guy in for a cardiac ultrasound but the staff was full of smiles. I also had to call in a few times before going to the appointment and every phone call was pleasent and upbeat. Maybe other people wouldn't notice or even care but for me, that kind of genuine caring is rare and important...especially when it comes to my four legged little babies!!! More...

The care that my Bulldog received for surgery from the start to the end was very important to us, and Pieper Vet met and surpassed all of our expectations....highly recommended !
Riley had a seizure Saturday morning. He had to be rushed into Piper memorial hospital. All his blood work and x-rays came back normal. Thank you to Dr. March, Dr. Lord, and all the technicians who were competent, compassionate and extremely attentive to my little fur baby. They were there waiting for me as soon as I walk through the doors. Piper memorial is an outstanding hospital. The staff is outstanding. They're pricing is extremely reasonable. I highly recommend this facility and feel that all 3 of my dogs are well taken care of. More...

Absolutely the best vets ever!
Couldn't say enough positive things about Pieper-Olsen! I drive 40 minutes to take my dog there because there just isn't any place that even compares to them. All of the doctors, techs, and staff are knowledgeable, friendly and true animal lovers. They always help you determine what the best course of action is and are always fair and honest when it comes to the cost. If you want the BEST then Pieper-Olsen is the only place to bring your pets! I will only bring my dogs here. The care that my two senior dogs get here is the best. They take every precaution and fully explain all of the options open to me for my dogs care. I know my animals are receiving the best care possible at Pieper. I also love their boarding. When my dogs are there they are well cared for and I never have to worry about them. More...
I cant saw enough good things about Pieper Memorial. This weekend we took our dog there as an Emergency who was very sick. He ended up having a tumor on his spleen and it burst resulting in blood building in his belly and needed emergency surgery. Dr. McKay called us after surgery and every day until his release. She sat with me when he was released and explained the medication and after care. They are an excellent facilty and I wont go anywhere else. Our dog hates people and usually needs to be muzzled. He wasnt muzzled the entire time he was there and let the Vet Techs feed him out of their hands, as well as Dr. McKay examine him. This blows me away that he trusted all of them that much. More...
Great staff! They always listen to your concerns and treat your animals with lots of love.
They always take very good care of my cat they are very pleasant.
My cat has been going to the Marlborough Animal Hospital. Last fall she began showing signs of blindness. When I took her in tests were done to figure out why. My cat had very high blood pressure and was put on medication. Her eyesight did not return, the veterinarian has my cat come in for recheck on blood pressure and eyes. She would not have survived through the year without the medication. More...
I love Pieper Olson and I would highly recommend them to everyone. They went above and beyond during two very stressful situations for our family and helped guide us in the right direction with both of our animals. Never once did anyone push us to do something we didn't want to. I cannot thank the staff enough for their level of professionalism and I will forever be grateful to Dr Albin and all of the staff. Dr. Lord and the staff were amazing! They got us right in even though we were new to the practice and took care of my baby as if we had been clients forever. We are sticking with Dr. Lord!
Very nice doctors. My babys are in good hands while they are there. I travel 30miles to go to them. Wouldn't have any other way. They work with you.
Beautiful facility, great staff. Little waiting and fast results. Great to have all specialties under one roof which eliminates traveling to multiple facilities and less stress on our pets. Immediate results helped me avoid the stress of waiting and worrying. The doctor was very professional and also compassionate and informative. Highly recommend. More...

I almost lose my kitty, FatKat last Sept. She ended up at the Middletown local 5 days. I could call anytime day or night and they would check on her right away. The vet who was taking care of her even caled me with an update that wasn't too good, but she did pull thru. Best care ever.We go to Marlborough location and they are the ones who found out what was wrong with her.I was there so many times I joked I should get a cot. One day I came in with her and they said they had measured a place for my cot.I thank you all for taking such good care of all my kittys, FatKat, Clips & Mish More...
The best place to bring your pets, during healthy and not so healthy times.
Nice experience during a stressful time
For years we have brought our numerous dogs and cats to your offices in Middletown and Essex. The quality of care, and more importantly, the compassion given by every member of the staff is beyond compare. We deal more with Essex as it is closer to us. But we have used Middletown for the larger surgeries. From "wee pups" and kittens, to the older "senior" ones, your staff was always there for us and our pets. More...
Piper Olsen vet is the only vet that I use. Dr Olsen and his staff are very polite and caring. I had to put my 11 year old cat down in January. Of this year. It was the hardest thing I had to ever do. Dr Olsen had been treating my cat for a disease that my cat had gotten that we were hoping would of changed. everytime I called to give a up date or needed to bring my cat in Dr Olsen was aways there even when he had other appts. On the day that my cat got worse Dr Olsen told me to bring him to the vet and he contact one of the other Dr on that day and told him I was bringing him in. Dr Olsen wasn't in the office that day he was working at another office. Dr Olsen kept in touch with me and the other Dr. I asked Dr Olsen if he would met me and my husband that night at Piper Olsen In Middletown. Dr Olsen even rearranged his staff meeting that night because I asked him to be there with us when we made that hard decision to let out cat go to the rainbow bridge. You don't get service like this or anyone that feels what you feel. Dr Olsen and his staff went way beyond any service that I was expecting to get. So if anyone wants to have a vet that is understanding compassionate and that cares about you and you pets and that will help you and your pet than I will.always recommend Piper Olsen in Middletown. I want to thank Dr Olsen for everything thing he had done for me and my pets and I want to let him and staff know how much I appreciate them. Thank You. More...
My experience was positive from the moment I walked in with my gravely ill rescue puppy. The staff were wonderful, attentive and caring. The vets I worked with, Dr. Lord and Dr. Lapin, were phenominal - professional and caring, sympathetic to both the pup's needs as well as our own. Our Lacey is now thriving and getting fiestier each day. More...

Willoughby and Jake alway get the best care with Dr Brienza in Essex. She takes time with you and your concerns for your pet.
Very good but expensive!
Dr. Reagan is the best veterinarian I've ever had! He is extremely knowledgeable and caring and always puts the best interests of both the pet and the pet owner first. He took care of my poodle for 19 years and very compassionately helped us put him down when it was his time. We just got a new puppy and I feel so good knowing that Dr. Reagan will take good care of her and always give us the best advice and guidance. It is clear that he loves his job, which comes through in the care he gives to his animal patients and the owners as well. I look forward to having Dr. Reagan being an important part of my puppy's health and well-being. More...

Staff very friendly. Gave a good estimate on wait times. I came in with my dog just before they were starting rounds. This is a place truly filled with people who love animals. We've had to bring our little pup here several times and each time they are caring and very accommodating. Not my local vet, so I've only ever been here twice, but I've had a really good experience both times. I like the specialized level of care and the fact that their scale is built in to the floor, and therfore doesn't scare my dog!
We bring our 3 cats to Pieper-Olson and absolutely love the doctors, techs and staff there! We love the general practice and the emergency department has taken great care of our string-eating feline when some trouble (string) got into her. I had to get my well-loved pet mouse euthanized and everyone was very kind and considerate of my loss, following up with a sympathy card. More...

Saved our pitbull who was attacked by her kelpie sister. Excellent staff!!!!! Thank God for all of you!!!!! Lady is back to catching squirrels and getting muddy. ❤
My cat and best friend Max started limping around on 3 legs and I thought he had pulled a muscle. It didn't get better after a couple days, but got worse. I finally called the Marlborough location and they got me in immediately. The Doctor diagnosed an abscess, gave him a shot, combined the visit with his yearly which was coming up[Saved me money] and sent me home saying the medication should work very quickly and if it didn't to call. I called the next day and asked the receptionist to thank the Doctor for giving me back my healthy friend. More...

We r extremely pleased with all the doctors and staff from the emergency center at Pieper-Olson in middletown,ct. Unfortunately we didn't get the results we were hoping for but the team there on new years eve night was incredible. Doctor was very thorough and educated. We have always enjoyed great service and care from Pieper's for our pets.
They are the BEST!! I was referred to Pieper-Olson Veterinary Hospital by my vet. My lab has seizures and they felt it was time to see a specialist. Dr. Hammond was wonderful with Buddy. He was very caring and knowledgeable. He explained the situation and didn’t push any unnecessary treatments. I am optimistic with his care plan. I would highly recommend Pieper-Olson, the staff and physicians are warm and professional. More...
I have bringing my dogs to Pieper-Olson Veterinary Hospital for almost 40 years. For the past 20 plus years I have been focusing Dr. Zeveney as my dogs "personal vet". She is extremely professional, knowledgeable, caring and has a fantastic "bedside manner" that is comforting to me and of course the patient. Once she starts working on my dog's problem she gives 110%. She doesen't just throw expensive medicines and procedures to resolve the problem ... she analyzes the problem and uses her years of experience to conservatively develop a plan to treat the problem .... never compromising my dogs health. Tasha, Barney and Chester may have crossed over the bridge but Louie is the next generation to follow Dr. Z!!!!!!Dr. Zeveney is a outstanding member to the Piper-Olson family! More...
It is always a pleasure to have an appointment with Dr. Olson. He is absolutely the best veterinarian ever!!
Our Springer had near drowning experience last evening. Even though she seemed okay at first, her breathing became questionable. We found the entire experience at Pieper extremely professional and positive. The Vet that treated our dog was knowledgeable, had good suggestions, and was excellent with our very anxious dog. We recommend Pieper highly for emergency care needs. I do wish they'd re-open the Essex location as Middletown is quite far from Waterford in an emergency situation. More...
I have been going for about 12 years with my cat, 2 years with my dog, and just had to go yesterday for my mom's dog. He got very hurt, paralyzed and not a good prognosis. ..had to put him down... the neurologist Dr. Perkins was as nice and sympathetic as they get, even if I was having a little trouble dealing with my mom being so upset and all the questions, etc. I recommend them in any circumstance, big or small. You can also buy special food for your animal/s at this location. More...
So first of all I will say that I will go to great lengths to get quality care for my pets. I have both large and small animals (horses, chickens, dogs etc. .)Piper Olsen over my years using them primarily as ER Vets then speciality and even for neurology, physical therapy and other specialities has always EXCEEDED my expectations for their quality of service, knowledge and consideration! My family has over a decade of experience using them.Salem Valley is my regular vet, but in ER for my dogs (greyhounds very sensitive breed) or specialty that Salem doesn't support, Piper is my go to and are knowledgeable and have always done right by us.I had another ER hospital mis-diagnose my mini pin once and I rushed her to Piper, they performed an MRI and brain surgery that saved her life and returned her to normal. MRI's for pets are no different than for people- yes they cost $$ this isn't a charity- their facilities may be nice but they have the specialties to help your pets. Owing, caring and vetting is a responsibility that comes with a cost. Sorry, not sorry. Care Credit can help you with those costs and they'll help you sign up for it right there.I have been an interim customer of Piper and highly recommend the facility for special, boarding and ER needs. More...
This is not our primary Vet office but whenever I couldn't get to my hometown vet, Pieper Olson has been great about seeing our Ridgebacks! We've been there for several emergencies and The staff has always been pleasant and very caring. The doctors are compassionate and realize that your pets are family members. It's not cheap but quality never is! More...
This past Thursday night, my rascal of a cat ate a lily leaf. Maybe two. It's a long story and I was NOT the one who bought these flowers; they're highly toxic to cats. I called Pieper Memorial and they told me to bring him in right away.48 hours on an IV later, Buster is home and getting back to his usual antics. The staff at Pieper Memorial was extremely professional and kind, making both of us feel better. I knew he was in good hands even though it was hard for me to be apart from him. The cost was also much lower than I expected it to be! I hope we won't need their er services in the future but if we do, this is where we'll go. More...
The place is wonderful! First, top notch doctors in Rob Olson, his wife and the rest of the doctors. Secondly, i don't know how they do it with so many animals in and out every day, but the office smells wonderful! And it IS clean-immaculate. The people at the front desk are amazing and they make their jobs look easy. I will not be able to get all of their names but Gabriella, Grace, kate, Linda are just a few to name. At any given time, you will find a staff member on the floor playing with a dog. I wish as a human, I would be treated as well as my dog is by human doctors! More...
Excellent care for both my dogs. Every staff person, every vet tech, every vet is friendly and caring. They even helped me euthanize my pet chicken who was attacked by a fox. They helped my dog prolong his life by a year while he battled cancer. Wonderful facility and people. More...
We've taken my large dog there many, many, MANY times, and they've always done a superb job. Our dog (Frankie) had torn both ACLs, and it was in their best interest to find the easiest, most comfortable solution. The staff are very friendly, compassionate, and caring. We ended up having to give Frankie two separate surgeries, and when he was in between them he was simply overflowing with expensive pain medications. They did an amazing job with the first surgery, and after seeing how he did with it, they suggested a different, less invasive surgery. We immediately accepted, and they got straight to work. Frankie has recovered beautifully, and I have to say, I wouldn't trust anyone else with my dogs. They did a great job on his surgeries, and are always willing to help, keeping in mind the dog's best being. They are quite expensive, but it is definitely worth it! More...
Awesome team of people that work there. Dr. Olson is running it so well. You can have your pets taken care of there knowing that they will get superb treatment.
Love Pieper Memorial. Love Dr. Reagan. My cats have always received phenomenal care!!! I will not go anywhere else!
The professional staff and particularly the vets are first rate. Communication is thorough and clear. Our beloved cat could not be saved, but we were in no doubt that all was done which could be done, and done with the utmost skill and empathy.
Can't say enough about the extraordinary care my dog received here. From the expertise, kindness and wisdom of Dr. Hammond to the patient perseverance of the physical therapists, Pieper-Olsen has provided superior care for her every need.
We've used Pieper-Olson for almost 20 years for vet care and boarding. We've always been pleased with the service and the care for our dogs.
The ER is impressive & efficient! I could not have asked for better service, with a very fare price.
Staff is very helpful and pleasant. Always had a good experience.
Impressive facility. Very knowledgeable staff and doctors.
I raced my dog to the hospital because she accidentally ingested some medications. Once there, they research the medications and baseload her bodyweight, determine that the medications were not harmful. They checked her vitals and gave me some signs to look for over the next few days. Seems pretty standard for a hospital. However, what I was really impressed with and thankful for was that there was no charge for this consult. Even though the meds turned out to not be harmless, they could've very easily given something to induce vomiting and then charge me a million bucks for it. I've been to an emergency vet hospital that bass they just charge me for walking in the door. This was not the place. The hospital also has a really big waiting room that is equipped with a vending machine, complementary coffee, computers, and a play area for kids.As much as I hope I never have to return there, if my pets ever need emergency care, I will not hesitate to bring them in. More...
I have been bringing my pets to Pieper for over 20 years. They have always been professional and compassionate. One dog needed daily heart medication and Dr. Olsen suggested getting it at Walmart because it was less expensive than buying it there! (I had no financial problems, he was just looking out for me). They are growing and I hope they keep their small-time, personal feel). I love going there. More...
I usually don't review on Yelp but I wanted to say how wonderful the staff and doctors were. Our dog was very sick and the staff and doctors at Pieper Memorial did everything they possibly could to save our dog. They were extremely compassionate and caring. They made us feel like our dog was the only dog they were taken care of us. In the end, our precious dog could not be saved but without the support and guidance I don't know what my husband and myself would have done. Pieper Memorial is all about the well being of your animal. They are not money hungry. The hospital is extremely clean. I would recommend Pieper Memorial to anyone. More...
This vet is absolutely incredible. The vets care about your pet like it's their own child. They always took the best care of our dog and two cats, and always spoke about how great they were. It was very obvious that they really cared about the animals, and that was why they were there. The last time we brought him to the vet, we came too late and he passed away from a seizure. They sat us down and made sure that we were okay. A few weeks later, we received a condolence card. They cared SO much. We were thanking ourselves for this vet already, and after this, we will never leave. Our vet before this only cared about money, and didn't know how to handle dogs. I don't know how we would have felt if we had still been there- we sure wouldn't have gotten a card, let alone an actual "I'm sorry." We are loyal to this vet, as they have taken incredibly good care of all of our pets, and are even helping us find the best place to adopt a dog. More...
These vets saved my cat's life. She was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and ended up staying five days there. She went in listless, dehydrated, no energy, and left a completely different cat. The vets were patient and answered all of my questions whenever I had them. The techs were just as caring and compassionate and really looked after my kitty when she needed care. The tech who taught me how to treat my cat at home was very patient, encouraging, and thorough in her explanation. I received nothing but the best possible care from the Pieper Olson team. Thank you all so much. More...
Many thanks to this professional and efficient hospital. The Vet was professional but caring. Thank you for your assistance in our time of sorrow.
My 10 pound, 9 year old shihthzu had a minor twist injury to her back, which resulted in paralysis of her hind legs, and an inability to urinate. We brought her to a local emergency vet in the small town that we live in. They did digital radiographs, which showed no fractures, but some arthritic changes. She was put on rymadil, and referred to our regular vet. Our regular vet was not there the day we brought her in, the vet that was ther got her an appointment with Dr. Hammond at Pieper. It was difficult to express her bladder, but I was able to gently express her bladder if I took her outside, which indicated that she had signal to her bladder, which was a good sign. Dr. Hammond was wonderful. I had my vet's office forward the email the radiographs to Pieper, which he evaluated. He gave me the option to take her off of the Rimadyl, which apparently does not help with spinal cord injuries. He could not put her on steroids until she had been off of NSAIDs for a week. He gave me the option of waiting, or having her receive an MRI, which I opted for. I picked her up the next day, and had a consult with Dr. Hammond, at which time he discussed the results of the MRI. She has 2 herniated, degenerated discs, the one at L2 sits very close to the spinal cord. The trauma caused the disc to hit he cord, causing inflammation. I was given exercises to do with her several times per day, as well as medication to relax her bladder to make it easier to express. At the next appointment, he would evaluate her for steroids. As the week progressed, she regained more and more use of her hind legs. By the time we went back, she was wobbly walking again! He was so impressed with her progress, he opted not to risk the side effects of steroids. She has continued to improve. Although she is not able to climb stairs ur jump up on the couch, she knows her limitations. He has given me the option to use gabapentin, which I rarely use, as a dog needs to use the pain signal to set her own limitations. She will never be the way she was prior to her injury, but I still have my baby. I am partially disabled, and though I have 4 dogs, 2 are large dogs, one is geriatric, (nearly 17). Coco, my little dog is my constant companion. Thank you Dr. Hammond for giving me my baby back, and thank you to the wonderful staff, who were compassionate, took time with me, answering my questions, giving me the exercises, working me until I was comfortable. Thank you for not "rushing into unnecessary surgery", or risking her being on steroids, especially since she has a history of Lyme disease, in spite of annual Lyme vaccines. More...
I think the care here for emergency and veterinary services is top notch. You definitely pay top dollar for it, but you get what you pay for. The staff is friendly and understanding (of things like a hysterically crying wife), yet very professional. I felt that they were honest with me about options, and upfront about the costs More...
It's important to keep in mind the high care standards that are needed especially in all the newest techniques/medicine for our fur children. I am so glad it's Pieper-Olson . Our dachshund had needed his second immediate emergency back surgery,( the first was not here but at a hospital in CT that has gone down hill in all aspects of care, personnel, and should not hold itself out as an emergency vet hospital and actually sent us away with a just wait and see plan- in my mind negligent and abusive), so it was this second event that we needed to seek out immediate care and have the surgery right away. This is the point, there was no hesitation with this outstanding Vet Hospital on what was needed and it was emergency care that was provided and surgery was performed as quickly as possible. The doctors we had are excellent esp. Dr. Cohen, and Dr. Hammond and neurology doctors. The technician staff are excellent in before and post op care and comfort and show devotion and love for your fur children - it's here. From the first step in the door until leaving, we were comforted and cared for with the utmost professional manner. I would want this care for myself. A 5 stars Awesome for fantastic care and this should be viewed as a model hospital. IF there is something that wasn't right, I would have said it here, for five days we had the best care you could imagine. and even afterwards or anytime you could call for assistance with friendly, loving staff . Super Kudos! TY to Dawn, Erin and Everyone who Loved Duker back to Health! More...
Cannot say enough good things about this place! We brought our dog to the emergency room here when he was experiencing severe pain, muscle spasms, and stiff neck like symptoms. After visiting his own vet and other ER's we were referred here. Dr. Hammond was the neurologist who saw him and was very helpful! He examined him, and explained what his initial thoughts were and potential issues and next steps. He was calm and supportive even when my fiancé and I were on the verge of tears. We had to leave our dog there overnight and we're please to learn they have 24 hour surveillance in their ICU and we could call and ask how he was doing at any point. He had an MRI done the next day and by that afternoon we were talking treatment options for a herniated disc with the vet. His MRI was shown and explained to us in detail as was his prognosis. Going forward the vet has been available through phone calls and emails whenever we have questions and for follow ups. We cannot thank them enough for their great work, how friendly the staff is and Dr. Hammond for being available and thorough! More...
They always take good care of our babies :)Sometimes you will get a bit of attitude or a long wait when you call on the phone to make an appointment or with a question. I try not to let that bother me too much, as most who work there are personable when you go in. Most importantly, the vets are wonderful!! We try to always see Dr. Fayette, as she is great with our dog and cat. But we have gone for emergency visits and have seen other doctors, who are also caring and sweet with the animals. They have long weekday hours and are also open on the weekends. And hopefully we never need it, but it is nice to have a 24 hour animal hospital so close to home and attached to our normal vet's office. We have also used the boarding and grooming services in the past, with no compaints. More...
Today I had to put my beloved kitty to sleep. I brought her to Pieper-Olson, and I'm very glad I did. They made a very difficult situation much easier to deal with. Everyone from the receptionists to the vet was caring and compassionate. Amy the tech put in the IV catheter, and kept my cat calm, wrapping her in a blanket for me to hold. Dr. Church let me hold my kitty while she administered the injection, which was very helpful to me. My kitty passed peacefully in my arms, and what could have been a very traumatic experience for both my cat and I was not. More...
Love them - always on time, professional and compassionate. Tons of great services and up on all the newest techniques/medicine. Can't say enough good things about Dr. Olsen!!! More...
On July 27th my dog Tate was diagnosed with Stage 4 B-Cell Lymphoma. After consulting with Dr. DeRegis, we decided to move ahead with the CHOP Protocol to give Tate an opportunity to live longer than the projected 1-2 months. I was confident that I made the right decision and hoped that Tate could tolerate the treatments. Given that he had just turned 4-years old and I consider him my child, the thought of giving up was not an option for me. From the beginning, Dr. DeRegis and the staff at Pieper have been exceptional. No matter how late in the evening it is or how exhausted they are, the collaboration and communication has been remarkable. From Deanna and Ann Marie, the oncology nurses, to Anne and the rest of the front desk staff; everyone has been professional while being beyond thoughtful and caring. It is safe to say, that the staff have grown to love Tate! Ironically, Tate looks forward to going to all his appointments and seeing his human, canine and feline friends at Pieper (he especially likes the kitties!).We were relieved that despite the unfavorable side effects of chemotherapy and two hospitalizations, Tate has managed remarkably well. The compassion, work ethic and wisdom that both the staff at Pieper and Dr. DeRegis have displayed has made such an incredible difference in Tate's outcome so far. Tate is certainly not out of the woods. Currently he is in remission and feeling great! I'm optimistic that he may defy the statistics. If your pup is diagnosed with cancer, Pieper is the place to take him/her! More...
As someone who lives by the academic calendar, I spend summer vacation in Connecticut, even though I live in Delaware during the school year. But with a seven year old basset hound who's been receiving chemotherapy for advanced lymphoma, I faced the question of where and how I would continue her treatment if I was in the New Haven area for three months. After doing some research online about where there were veterinary oncologists in Connecticut, I decided that Pieper made the most sense as the place to continue my dog's treatment. I'm so glad I chose them, because the care that my dog has received with them has been terrific. Dr. DeRegis, the veterinary oncologist, is fantastic; she spent quite a lot of time with my dog and me during our first appointment so that she could really get to know my pup, her history, and how we had been approaching her treatment in Delaware. (She also had spent a lot of time on my dog's case even before our appointment, reading through her file at length and talking with the veterinary oncologist in Delaware.) In the weeks of treatment since then, Dr. DeRegis has been great about answering my questions and listening to my concerns, from the important to the perhaps ridiculous. She's also continued to coordinate with our vet in DE so that there won't be any problems in terms of continuity of care when we head back there. While my dog has only been her patient for the three months of the summer, it's clear Dr. DeRegis has been giving the very best care to my dog. Aside from my dog's amazingly good health (given that she's being treated for advanced lymphoma), the proof of the great care she's getting is in how happy she is to visit Pieper; she's actually a very shy dog until she feels really comfortable with people, but by our second visit, she was wagging her tail as we entered, eagerly going to talk to all the wonderfully friendly and kind staff, vet techs and nurses, and Dr. DeRegis. if you're a dog parent, a veterinary oncologist is someone you hope you never have to meet, but if you do, you want someone who is terrific, and Dr. DeRegis and the staff at Pieper are definitely that. I'm so glad this place is relatively close to us! This is a 24 hour emergency vet service that is located on Randolph Road in Middletown. Our little chihuahua had an allergic reaction to her shots from earlier in the day, and we had to rush her to a vet. They were quick, professional and very friendly. They even clipped her nails for us at no charge! As far as prices go, it costs $105 to see the vet before midnight, and $115 after midnight. Any shots/procedures are extra. I will definitely go to this place first if we ever have a late night emergency again. More...
I love the vets at the Middletown Vet Office. I bring my Guinea pigs here when they are sick and for wellness checks. I live about 40 minutes away but feel they are worth it for the care of my furry crew. Dr Albin and Dr Robbins are excellent exotic vets they are caring compassionate and put the best interest of your pet first.Guinea Pigs shouldn't be seen by vets not experienced with exotics as they have special requirements for medicines and surgery care. I would highly recommend this office for your exotics health care. More...
I live 35 miles away from the Middletown office butI wouldn't take my dog anywhere else. Doctors are awesome. They're great with my dog who is a nervous wreck about going to the vet's office (because of previous experiences with another vet) and they're very respectful toward me. The staff is pleasant and efficient.I've used Boarding Facility twice and had no problems. They gave my boy report cards for each day he was there along with his activities and who he hung out with during doggie daycare. Very agreeable staff to my special requests. More...
The wait can be long to check in and out and that's a bit annoying, but if your animal is sick they are on call 24/7. The kennel is amazing and the staff at the vet hospital are very nice. The veterinarians are kind, caring and compassionate. They're pricey but worth it; when you see the staff snuggling your sick animal you know they're in the very best of care. More...
