I can honestly say that my experience at O2 fitness has gone beyond my expectations. My trainer, Shawn, has been marvelous with walking me through what program designs I need to work on to meet my goals. I'm sorry that at this time I can not afford the trainer for the time frame that I would like. Hopefully that will change soon. More...

I signed up for a month-to-month membership in January 2019 and was hesitant because of some past reviews. I think things must have significantly improved, because I have loved my time at O2. The staff has offered a lot of advice to help me achieve my fitness goals. The customer service is wonderful and all the employees are very friendly; in fact, after I found out I have to move away from the area, the manager wrote me a pass to let me continue to come in and work out up until my move date even though my membership ended before that. It was such a sincere gesture. I can also say the place stays really clean compared to other gyms I have visted, even during improvement projects. The classes can also be fun and are a great way to mix things up every now and then! I hope you give O2 Carrboro a visit if you're looking for a new gym! More...

It's old, rustic, but unique. I've been to many gyms in the last 10 years and although this location might not have the luxury features as compared to others, this location have always given me the best gains and progress. Yea it can be funky at times but it's a gym, a place to train so if your looking to look the same and make no progress than this isn't the location for you. However, if your goal to be better health, gain muscle, and actually train rather than complain about the aesthetics of the gym more than improving your body's aesthetics then this gym isn't for you and your better off at planet fitness where you can have pizza served to your Smith machine bench. First of all, this gym does NOT deserve a two star rating. If you look at the other reviews, they are mostly based on (negative reviews of) the condition of the gym and its equipment. While there were a few pieces of equipment that were not functioning when I visited (a few more than average, but not so many that I couldn't work around them), I am guessing that most of the negative reviewers here prioritize aesthetics over functionality. If you are one of those people who expect your gym to have the ambiance of a high-end country club, you won't be happy here. However, if you don't really care about a few dents and cracks in the walls, and can work around a few broken machines, this is actually a pretty good gym with a ton of equipment. Also, the a/c worked just fine.I really appreciated all of the powerlifting, olympic lifting, and crossfit equipment. They have squat racks, benches, tons of free weights, rowers, a rig for pullups and muscle-ups, plyo boxes, a GHD, and lots of other equipment you probably won't find in a "country club" style gym. They also have a ton of weight and cardio machines (most of the broken machines were cardio machines, including 5 out of 12 ellipticals that were not working). Basically, if you can't find a piece of equipment here that you need for your workout, it might not actually exist. The staff is friendly and a drop-in is only $15. The locker rooms/bathrooms aren't necessarily the cleanest in the world, but (again) this is a gym, not a five-star hotel. I have definitely showered and changed in worse. While I wouldn't say that this gym earns 5 stars, it's way better than the 1 and 2 star reviews that it's been getting, and is a great place to get in a workout near Chapel Hill, especially if you are into powerlifting, olympic lifting, or crossfit. O2 features incredible classes, an exceptionally clean facility and wonderful amenities like towel service and coconut-carbon purified water (thank you, O2, for helping reduce the devastating plastic waste with this addition)! Lara Loeback's customer service and kindness is one of the best parts of the O2 experience! She is the reason I joined.  If you want to make your Tuesday light up and burn off any calories or blues that may have accumulated, hit Kim's spin class at 930am! (All of the classes are superb.) Good classes, great cycling class is offered! They are currently under construction but once done it should open up the space more so it doesn't feel so cramped. Weight floor is very cramped currently with almost no walking space between machines. It is clean and they provide towels which is a nice touch! While I appreciate the trainers getting to know their members, some appear to be pushing their services on members too aggressively. The members range in ages so all should feel comfortable here (is a much higher ratio of the over 60 crowd- which you may like or dislike or not even care depending on your preference).A couple workers dress inappropriately. They look like they are going clubbing instead of looking professional and that gives the gym a distasteful appearance. Overall, it gets the job done, but is definitely not a gym with a "wow" factor for any reason: however, that may change when the construction is complete. If so I will be sure to update this review. Update: they knocked down a wall and now the place feels more open/less cramped! Now if we could just get them to turn the heat down a little, maybe open a door for some fresh air...in the winter that is. More...

I've been a member at a lot of gyms over the years and I would say this is an excellent gym for people that actually work out. Its cardio machines are new and well kept and there is a lot of variety in what you can do. The free weight section is large with a lot of benches and different apparatus for using plates and weights. The variety of machines is also very good and they are new. They have a nice selection of Hammer Strength, which is what I use, but they also have other similar machines for those who don't like machines with plates. The staff is friendly and lorckerrooms clean. Best of all it never seems overly crowded. I have yet to walk in and not been able to do the workout I planned because of a crowd. If you do classes they have a lot of them. They're Les Mills and appear popular. (I don't do classes.)  I'd recommend joining if you're looking for a top-notch gym. More...

I recently joined through a Corporate Membership. The employees at this location have been super helpful and friendly. The gym is really clean and I see employees cleaning equipment, locker rooms, and other public spaces every time I am there (various days and times of day).  Members get free fitness assessment and second session (with one of the personal trainers) to set up a personal program. This is how I met Mike G., who is now training me weekly. I'm super impressed by his knowledge and professionalism, but mostly by his ability to individualize exercises/an exercise program that takes into account my specific physical limitations but still enables me to get a great workout. The are loads of classes offered (all included in your membership).  As a new member I have been warmly welcomed by teachers and students and I find the fun and challenging classes a great option to add to my wellness journey. Members at O2 get access to all the O2 locations, which are scattered through NC and SC. There are 4 locations in Chapel Hill/Carrboro, which can be convenient if you live in this area. While membership at O2 isn't the least expensive of all gyms in the area, nor is it the most. It provides towels and child care (with pretty long hours). The club hours are pretty long about 5:30-9:00 or 10 weekdays 8-7 weekends. The Carrboro location is open 24/7. I've been a member at gyms in a number of cities/states through the years, and O2 ranks as one of the nicest I've been a member of. O2 is a great gym. I was a member of the one in Carrboro next to Chapel Hill. It didn't disappoint. This one is smaller and the members are a bit different. As opposed to having young College students like the one in Carrboro, this is filled with retired older people. This to me is a positive! They are great and friendly. All of them say hi to you and sometimes want to spark a conversation. The bad thing is that when you begin your grind on, it can become a little bit of a setback.  Regardless, I love O2.  I love their gyms, towel service, sauna...etc.  The memberships vary.  To break it down, you can haggle them down to a lower sign up fee and every month its $40 bucks. Not bad since its 24/7. More...

Very convenient location, clean equipment, friendly staff, large Group Fitness room. This is the main O2 location I go to not only because of its vicinity to my house but also because of the fact that it is open to members 24 hours every day. As a night owl, I sometimes prefer working out later in the day so it's nice to have that as an option. The Group Fitness room at this location has the best layout and is the least stuffy out of all of the other 3 locations in the area. The rest of the gym occasionally feels a little stuffy at times but nothing unbearable and I mean, it's a gym- you're there to sweat a little. In addition to the occasional heat, the only other reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that whenever equipment is broken, it seems to take a really long time for it to be repaired. Particularly the stair machines and the rowing machines which is especially frustrating since there are only two of each in the gym. Other than those two minor things, I love the carrboro O2!
