Referring to Martin Roberts of Martin Roberts Associates and laterly MRA Renovations (@MartinRoberts89), Beckenham.

Sadly the below review echoes our experience and anyone considering employing this unscrupulous man should take great warning.

We have spent over £120,000 with this man to build our extension and loft and now face paying tens of thousands more to correct the unsafe and cowboy job he has conducted - which is devastating for me and my family.

Our extension was finished five years ago, passed by building control and is under warrantee, but the floor is now collapsing. The report indicates that the floor joists were too small, not spaced correctly and not fixed to the wall correctly - in some places just nailed to the wall! This has come as quite a blow to us and will cost thousands to repair.

Martin has refused to engage with us despite emails, texts, calls, contacting insurers, building regs, colleagues and delivering the paper work to his house recorded delivery. The insurance we were told would protect us does not cover workmanship and the JCT guarantee which we paid for isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

This is the largest repair, but just one of a catalogue of issues we are now having to remedy and repair. We are now having our loft surveyed.

Given he came recommended, it is even more upsetting for us. Martin Roberts should be prosecuted not recommended!

According to the Insolvency Service, both of his businesses, Martin Roberts Associates and M R A Renovations (www.mrar.co.uk), are in the process of being wound up but have petitions against them - so we are not alone.

So please heed these warnings and do not engage with this man in any way shape or form. Sadly, he is not to be trusted. More...

Awful, Awful, Awful, if I could award Martin Roberts (MRA Renovations) no stars I would have but unfortunately this was not an option. I instructed MRA renovations to undertake building a single storey extension and house refurbishment. He said that he had a team of experienced qualified tradesman that he worked with for about 20 years. He said he was a qualified experienced builder. I have 4 bathrooms that were refitted by him and his team. All 4 leaked and in the master bathroom, his plumber installed the shower upside down. The level of workmanship was so poor that 2 of the bathrooms had to be ripped out and re fitted. One of the bathrooms has still not been re fitted. Martin Roberts himself constructed the roof on the extension, it could not be passed as suitable by building control. My structural engineer effectively condemned it as it was structurally unsafe. In fact to date, the extension has not been passed by building control. The build which he said would be completed in 12 weeks, has taken 7 months and is STILL not completed. He has essentially taken my money and run away with it, leaving it unfinished, in a poor state and we are now having to instruct competent workmen to complete and finish the job that he could not do.

I do not recommend him at all. He is untrustworthy, unprofessional and unskilled. If you want your home ruined he is your man. If you want a nice home that is structurally sound, then look elsewhere. To be honest I looked at Bark and the reviews on his page are glowing. However, if you look on google reviews, those reviews paint a much more accurate picture about MRA renovations. This review is genuine and should serve as a warning to all those thinking to engage this man and his band. You have been warned do not used him he is not a builder! From the start Martin and his team were able to assist in every aspect of our build, a two storey side and rear extension. Initially we had had inadequate plans from the owner of the house we bought, Martin’s contact, David produced full building control plans at a far better cost than others when we looked. The build was as per the programme. Martin provided and he helped us decide on certain finishes and saved money by using his trade accounts. Martin and his team were fantastic from start to finish. They are very professional, polite and understanding of our needs. We had a 2 story extension built in Chislehurst and included new master en suite, guest bedroom with additional bathroom as well as some external landscaping. They provided a programme and stuck to it other than us adding additional works. Martin helped with our choice of finishes which saved us money as we were able to use his trade accounts for tiles, bathrooms, sliding doors and windows. Martin and his team were brilliant from start to finish. He got our plans done via a colleague David who was very experienced and better value than others. David also did the structural calculations and building control stuff so all done under one roof so to speak.
The kitchen / dining room extension was large but well handled by them. They helped with finishes - kitchen, bathroom , flooring , tiles which worked out cheaper than we could source. He liased with building control throughout and all was quite straight forward. His team were polite and kept us updated especially when bad weather intervened. This was a large project both financially and time on our family. We would have no hesitation in recommending Martin for home projects. He was on budget and within the time frame we expected. More...
