I've been coming here for decades.  No idea how it is that I've never reviewed Mr. G's, so here it is finally!The bar is decent with a respectable selection of beers and all the usual other things, including sports on TV.  The dining room is a bit dated in comparison to a place that may have been built in the last 20 years, but I would hope that it never changes and stays the way it is forever.  It's part of the charm of the place that it is so comfortable and unpretentious.Service is always excellent.  And then there's the food.Oddly I've never had anything other than Pizza or Grinders here and have always thought they were excellent.  In particular, the fried scallop and bacon pizza I had the other night is probably my favorite pizza (yes I like it even more than the Mousaka pizza at a few of the Greek Pizza places nearby!)  The grinders are good sized with fresh ingredients and delicious hot or cold.  My mom enjoys their lasagna and I have to agree it is one of the best restaurant lasagnas I've ever tried.  She tells me that she also loves the scrod on the menu.  They also have regular specials, an enormous menu and TV's in the dining room playing sports most of the time.There aren't a lot of places like Mr G's left and thankfully they're still going strong after who knows how long.  It is the perfect combination of a traditional comfortable family restaurant, excellent food, decent portions, excellent service and fair prices.  If I move back to the area it will be in part so I can come here more often!  Love this place!  They deserve the rare 5 star review! Went to visit a friend who is a local and she said that Mr. G's is the spot she and her family have been going to for years and that it's THE breakfast spot for them. When it comes to historic culinary landmarks, this may be one of the last grinda shops left in MericaIf your ever passing thru New London on I95, call in an order of grinda's to go or take a seat in the bar or restaurant. The grinda was invented in New London, CT and copied all over the country (imitation is the best form of flattery)under other names such as "subs, torpedo, footlongs, and Sami's" to name a few.A true grinda needs SE CT tap water to make the bread sooo crispy you bite, grind-it between your teeth and chew this American classic.Get the salami or tuna toasted.Keeping your grinder simple with just oil, tomato and fluffy finely sliced lettuce is the way to go.Y'all are crushing it up there.
