Wish I had seen the previous review before paying for my puppy’s lessons. There are 4 trainers at mellor dog school the owner who is excellent another lady who is average & another woman & a young man who are absolutely useless! We took our puppy tonight for her 3rd lesson there was only us & 1 other dog for the lesson. I hadn’t seen the male trainer before so didn’t know what to expect. I had previously explained our puppy was scared of large dogs. It was just our puppy & a very large overly boisterous Labrador. The trainer instructed us to let the dogs off the lead (this normally happens at the end of the lesson not the beginning) & let them run around. For 10 mins the Labrador chased my puppy around the field and repeatedly pinned her against the fence. No attempt was made for any formal training or to calm or control the dog at all. After the other dog bit my face & again pinned my puppy against the fence I picked my puppy up & walked out of the lesson. At this point the trainer said I was reinforcing her fear. For 10 mins we stayed in the field with my dog being terrorised by the larger dog & absolutely no instruction given by the trainer. Before we left we asked for a refund & were told lessons are non refundable. I messaged them my concerns & they just said sorry you had a bad experience! More...

Took my puppy to the puppy classes with mellor dog school. Paid for 4 lessons up front like you have to and safe to say I WILL NOT be returning. Very disorganised and chaotic as soon as your puppy walks in they expect you to be able to walk around in a circle with your dog to heel. As my puppy was slightly Older they split us off from the rest of the group into a group of 3 with a lady called Phyllis, who put my dog straight on a halti and dragged her until she would walk on it. My poor puppy was frightened to death and refused to move anywhere with her tail between her legs. Thought this would be a nice class for her to socialise in not be so regimented and brutal that my dog was scared stiff. I understand that you have to be firm with your dog sometimes and let them know who’s boss but this place took it to a different level. Not for us. More...

Having trained there for 3 years, I can tell you the wealth of knowledge of the experienced instructors Simon and Hayley, who use their many years of dog training experience to help me. I have seen a massive difference in my 8 year old springer, on the first lesson she buggered off for an ice cream! Now She is on shoots every week beating and picking up perfectly! All thanks to the confidence and knowledge Hayley has given me. Never once have I seen any mistreatment of any of the dogs or any kids pinning dogs like previous reviews have stated, this reviews obviously come from jealous spiteful customers. This is an excellent dog school with a friendly family environment and friendly staff, if you want to have a trained dog, this is the place to go! More...

Molly is 5 months old and becoming increasingly boisterous and dominant. We have been attending the weekly classes which are great but I felt Molly was distracting the other puppies. I decided to have a one to one today with Hayley, what a brilliant experience. Unwittingly I had been making things worse by allowing Molly to lead play and walks. Just combing her or trying to put her coat on was a nightmare. Hayley talked me through a typical day and it was quite obvious where I was going wrong. I know now that I do need to be firm, she needs to know I am the boss. By the time we left, Molly was no longer pulling me on her lead and sat beside me quietly (never happened before) whilst Hayley summarised things. She had a nap when we came home and is happily playing on her own when I refused to throw the toy she brought(again never happened before- she would usually stand and bark). I can’t recommend Hayley and her team highly enough. More...

We have been taking our lab to Mellor Dog School since he was 4 months old. He is 2 now. Henry, who is a large dog, has been a willful puppy, sometimes stubborn and frequently boisterous. Hayley and her team have shown me how to manage him, and his great strength, by being consistent and using rewards to encourage good behaviour. Whenever I have had a problem with him I can always discuss this with Hayley and she always knows the solution. Recent trips to the vets have been met with great praise for Henry's good behaviour and obedience. We have learned so much and Henry can't wait to get there every week. He has become a polite dog, responsive to us and a pleasure to own. Thank you Mellor Dog School.... a massive 5 out of 5 from me! More...

My experiences of Mellor Dog School:I took my Golden Retriever Murphy to Mellor Dog School as a nine month old puppy and we've been going ever since. He's just turned five years old. When we started going he was a lively, headstrong often stubborn dog with dominance issues!Under the guidance of the instructor Hayley I learnt the basics of pack structure and canine behaviour, this was really helpful when following the friendly, consistent and professional advice Hayley employs. Good behaviour is rewarded and encouraged and Hayley always has the time and patience to discuss and sort out any problems.Murphy really enjoys going to training classes and we've even taken part in a couple of displays at country shows.I've had dogs previously but the training at Mellor Dog School has helped Murphy to grow into the best behaved dog I've had.On a recent walking trip to the Lake District Murphy was a real pleasure being both well mannered and easy to control at distance to the extent that he received praise from both other dog owners and the staff in the hotel where we stayed. If you want a professional, knowledgeable and caring dog trainer I have no hesitation in recommending Hayley and Mellor Dog School. Have attended the puppy classes and have NEVER experienced children armed with water spray bottles. I'm baffled by previous reviews can only think they have got the wrong place. They use marker training which is the same as clicker training and they use treats as a reward. I have a very happy well trained dog thanks to this dog school. Would definitely recommend. More...

Excellent dog training. I had been attending a different training class with my boisterous 8moth collie and not get any where . Walking her was awful! . We booked a one to one with Hayley and by the end Skye was walking really well . I now attend a weekly class and we are making progress. Without the help of Mellor Dog School we might have give up as she is quite a handful and needs good advice to keep her and me on track More...

I have been attending Mellor for over a year, if you don’t get basics right then you won’t have an all rounded dog, the classes are there to advise and show you what to do , you have to put your own effort in! !Always found the guys responsive and knowledgeable to the fact that me and my dog have entered comps and been successful this is with the help of team “Mellor” , with the help of them my dog will sit at distance go back for a retrieve over 200yds and much more .You don’t have to turn up every week you can spread this out over 3months for a £10 a lesson it’s well worth it ,.if you want a 121 ask for one, PS a dog won’t train itself but it will train you!!!
