About

Formerly a lecturer of English at UCL, I'm doing tutoring now. I am an expert in helping students write better essays about English literature or any topic in the humanities. I also do admissions consulting for students applying to undergraduate or graduate university programmes in either the UK or the USA.

Tutoring

I have just agreed to work with MDS early today so it's hard to give a review but based on what we discussed today I'm looking forward to working with MDS Education. I'm sure I will achieve my goal.

Q&As

I love the subject matter: literature and the humanities more generally has always been the focus of my life. I also love teaching writing. I learned to teach academic writing at a summer "bootcamp" at Princeton University, and the lessons that I learned have stayed with me until today.

Formerly a lecturer, I have turned to tutoring because it affords me some flexibility both in terms of other creative projects I am working on and in terms of my lifestyle. I also love working one-on-one with students to improve their work.

I am vastly more experience in higher education than most tutors, having worked as a lecturer at prestigious universities. I have experience with the full range of teaching and academic work, from undergraduate and graduate admissions, through undergraduate tutoring, and on to MA and PhD supervision.

Services

Academic tutoring for students from secondary school through graduate school. I specialise in English literature but can help with any humanities subject. We can improve academic writing, prepare for exams, generally improve reading comprehension and the ability to take positions on what is read, and of course knowledge of literature or other humanities subjects in terms of content.

I was admissions tutor for the UCL English department from 2015-2017. This means that I read every application by a student applying to study English at UCL during that period and decided whether they would be granted a place. I also convened a popular MA course at UCL and handled admissions for that, as well as, of course, advising students on PhD applications. If you are looking for help getting into a university or a course, it is unlikely you will find anyone with as much hands-on experience as me to help guide you through the process.

I am a profession test preparation consultant, specialising both in UK and USA exams.
