This shop is conveniently located within 5 minutes of the GW Bridge. It is located in a beautiful house with bright, airy spaces. I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone in the New York/New Jersey area who is looking to rent or buy a string instrument. The first floor showroom is stocked with a variety of instruments including many different sizes and grades of cellos. That space and the retail counter are gorgeous with lots of exposed wood, fancy plasterwork, and fine carpets (the beauty of the place is worth a visit even if you're not a string player yet). I was told that the second floor has rooms to test instruments before purchase, and the third floor is the workshop for repair and building instruments. The person who helped me (Isaac) is knowledgeable, encouraging, and kind. He saved me money by directing me toward renting a "B" grade cello. True to his word, the instrument has beautiful tone, wonderful aesthetics, and is strung with a very good set of strings. The bow is fine. The rosin comes free. The use of a soft-shell case with backpack straps is included in the price of the rental. I consider myself a very satisfied customer!! PS They have free parking right in front. More...

I spent about 45 minutes in Main Violin a few days ago, and I cannot say enough good things about the place and the people. I had gone there a year ago to get a better bow for myself and this time with a laundry list of things - new strings on an instrument for me, a new bow for me, and a rental instrument package for a student. The quality of the instruments sold and rented by Main Violin is so far above the entry level junk sold by the more well-know music store chain in our area that there is no comparison to be made. You probably spend twice as much, but you get an instrument that's 10 times better. If quality instruments and quality advice is what you're looking for, this is the place. More...

I rented a very nice cello for 5 months while my instrument was undergoing extensive work. Main Violin made billing and repair to rental cello (bridge adjustment) very easy and convenient. Rental fee was reasonable, and rental contract was flexible. I highly recommend Main Violin for string instrument rentals. More...

Great owner and shop as well. The interior is fantastic and it has great options for my cello. It's also very convenient for students, but make sure you call ahead.

Great place if you’re looking to buy or rent a violin. The inside is amazing, and seems to take you back into the 18th century. The walls, rugs, paintings, tables, and more are all beautiful which makes a great experience. Any music lover would appreciate all the instruments there and the music themed decor, especially the piece above the desk in the violin room. Overall, this is a great local shop to rent out or buy instruments and they have lots of strings to choose from. More...
