I was part of an all-day tour of Castlecoombs, Avebury, Lacock, and Stonehenge. Our Guide, Tim, was truly exceptional in all ways; friendly, engaging, knowledgeable, and highly patient. Our family also took the March 19 Stonehenge, Avebury, Lacock, Castle Combe tour from Bath. We sat in the front of the minibus so we had an excellent view of the road ahead. We loved our tour guide/driver (Nicholas/Nick)! He was very knowledgeable about the area, pointing out several 'white horses' on the sides of the hills that we were passing by. We also appreciated his friendly warnings about the mud in front of Devil's Chair at Avebury as it was a damp day! Larger/tour buses cannot stop in the beautiful town of Castle Combe - we loved the stop and visited the beautiful church there. It was a wonderful tour and our whole family really enjoyed it immensely. We would definitely recommend it to others: the group is small enough that it is easily manageable at the sites where the tour stops. More...

My sister and I took the Stonehenge, Avebury Stones, Lacock Village and Castle Comb tour just this morning. It was absolute fun. Our tour guide Charles was the best. My husband and took the 25 June Stonehenge-Avebury-Lacock-Cotswolds (Castle Combs)Tour that was led by Charles. He was friendly and engaging with a wonderfully dry sense of humor. We made it to Stonehenge before the crowds, which was wonderful. Charles told good stories and gave great advice. My sister & I were on holiday from Los Angeles, and we took the Stonehenge, Avebury, Lacock, Castle Comb tour on March 19. Our guide was brilliant! Very knowledgeable and friendly. We spent just the right amount of time at every destination. Our guide provided us with history and stories to make every stop even more special. We had a wonderful time. Had an amazing tour to Stonehenge, Avebury, Lacock and Castle Combe Village (Tour 1) today. Andy was a great guide, and his commentary struck a good balance between informative and fun. There were only 6 of us on the tour so it felt like a day trip with friends rather than a commercial tour. The bus itself was really comfortable, and we had a good amount of time at each location. We went on tour #1 on December 17 with Richard as our tour guide and absolutely loved it! It was a quiet day, and the rain held off, much to our luck! We saw all the sites in good time and never felt rushed. Richard was knowledgeable and friendly, with lots of jokes to keep us entertained during the drive. 10 years ago (2008), on the recommendation of our Rick Steves guide book, my daughter and I went on Mad Max Tours and thoroughly enjoyed them. So, coming back (from the USA), I felt compelled to share the fun with my partner...
We've just spent the past 2 days running around with Mad Max.
Fergie did a terrific job entertaining and enlightening us on the history, trivia and fun things about Stonehenge, Avebury, Lacock and Castle Combe.
Today Andy also did a great job taking us around the Cotswold Villages and informing us of local history and quirks.
The tours are well organized and are worth repeating! I learned different things from the different guides (and some things change over the years) and would be more than happy to join Mad Max again!! More...

We decided to do this tour on the evening before and, boy, was it worth it! Despite a slightly later start to the day due to unexpected traffic, we had a great time doing Tour #1 on the Mad Max list covering Stonehenge, Avebury & Cotswold Villages. If you've never been to this area (and we hadn't), it's a great way to do a bit of sampling of everything major.

Kevin was a great guide, giving us enough freedom to do our own thing but also keeping to the schedule.

The way Maddy (the Mad in Mad Max) had it set up - with audio talks as we were going from one place to another - was great! You get to learn a bit of the history before going to a place so you know what to look for.

If we come back to the Bath area, we'll most definitely do another of the Mad Max tours! More...

Just want to say that my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed Mad Max Tours. It is a wonderful service for getting out and about to sights in the Wiltshire and Somerset areas.

My husband and I were in Bath a little over a week ago. We went on one tour together, and then while he was busy with a conference I went on another tour by myself. On the first tour, my husband and I went to Stonehenge, Avebury, Lacock, and Castle Combe. We really enjoyed the informative commentary supplied by our driver Nick and the recordings from Maddy. Although the weather turned out to be exceptionally bad for much of the tour--raining, windy, cold, getting rain in my camera--even despite that (!), the tour was simply a wonderful experience and our driver Nick was really charming. And fortunately the weather calmed down by the time we got to Lacock and Castle Combe. Overall, it was a great experience despite some noncooperating weather elements!

The next day, I went on my own with the Mad Max tour going to Glastonbury and Wells. It proved to be another wonderful experience, this time seeing two charming towns in Somerset. And again, the driver, John, was very charming and helpful. And this time, the weather was beautiful, an added bonus! We had plenty of time to wander at our leisure in both Glastonbury and Wells, and had a nice window of time for climbing up Glastonbury Tor too, if we wanted to do that, which most of us did. Really a lovely experience with awesome views.

It was nice to be able to wander around freely and choose our own things to do, but with a clear easy-to-find meeting place and time set out for us at each stop.

I did take lots of photos both days, maybe I will post a few of the better ones when I get them sorted.

Anyway, I loved the Mad Max Tours experience! It really is such a helpful service for seeing wonderful places in pastoral England, thanks for providing it! More...

Loved our tour of the Cotswolds today! We had a small tour group of only 10 people and being in a vehicle smaller than the large buses made it possible to visit some of the villages that the buses would not have been able to drive to. Our driver, Kevin, was fantastic! He gave us so much information and recommendations on where to go at each stop. We never would have experienced so much trying to do it on our own. We took the Stonehenge and Cotswold tours and they were wonderful. Our drivers (Colin on Stonehenge and Tim on Cotwolds) were knowledgeable about the area as well as the history of the area, and really added to the quality of the experience. Highly recommend this company.

I was on the tour of Stonehenge, Avebury, and the Cotswolds. The small groups means you can ask questions along the way and see more things on narrower roads. Our driver was a cheerful local who knew all kinds of things about the area, from recent to ancient, and he was happy to share. It may seem like a lot of driving around, but there's so much to see even between stops that it's really a great value. I booked on the website with no problems. All around, a fantastic experience.
