Unfortunately I was in a busy work situation when Mr Lee knocked on the door, so I had little time to really assess what the outcome would be.
The shape of the tree overall was fine and I did have to get the front next to the pavement trimmed a little more.
I was going completely on the advice given and the result looked fairly okay on final inspection.
However, looking closely afterwards, there are a number of small branches that have been damaged from cutting.
I suspect that these small branch damages will not have any meaningful impact on the life of the tree, but in the several years that I have been pruning it, I have always been very careful with even the thinner branches.
£80 was probably a fair price, give the clearance of rubbish, but I felt the job was a bit rushed and perhaps more care could have been taken.
The proof of the result will be seen in the next year, so I reserve judgement as to whether the result is going to be any different from what I have attempted in previous years.
However, I was advised to trim and to do the pruning later when all the leaves have fallen (also what I'd normally do) although I may have taken back too much of the new growth which may have adversely affected flowering in the past.
Having said that, I always get a lot a comments about the tree and people taking photos, so I must have been doing something right.
If the result is more positive than previous years, then I will certainly change my rating.
