About

Hi, I am Sarah. I offer species appropriate, balanced training and behaviour modification services. While I work in all areas of pet dog obedience, I have particular interest (and expertise) in the rehabilitation of reactivity and aggression as well as working with fearful dogs.

When we met Sarah, we were in deep trouble and extremely worried about the wellbeing of our dog.Our two year old had become reactive and unpredictable - barking and trying to chase wheeled objects like bikes and skateboards. He would sometimes lunge at other dogs or jump up when he met people. He was becoming increasingly difficult to control and walks were becoming very stressful.
We had tried four other trainers, we had consulted vets, but nothing seemed to stick or be effective. We were at the end of our tether and the dog’s behaviour was causing problems in our relationship. After an incident where he chased a child in the park, we knew we had to solve the problem or something bad might happen to him.
We approached a veterinary behaviourist, who gave us a zoom consultation and didn’t meet our dog, charging a great deal of money. He said the best solution was to use anti-anxiety medication and follow the training techniques we had usedbefore. This was not the route we wanted to go down, and after much research we came across Sarah, the Good Dog Coach.
Sarah came to our house, spent time with us and our dog, wanting to understand his medical history, his home environment and the advice we had been given by other dog professionals. She listened to our challenges and was confident she could get results based on our key priorities.Sarah outlined her multi disciplinary approach, various training options and techniques that she used, including that of the e-collar.We felt listened-to and hopeful to have a path forward.
We all felt that intensive training would be the most effective way to get results.Of course we were concerned about sending him away for a period of time, how our dog might change, and the use of the e-collar.Sarah was always patient, she understood our worries, gave us time to explain and make decisions and connected us with other owners who had experienced her work.
While away, Sarah kept us updated of his progress with messages and videos and gave us plenty of advice for his handover and return home. She explained we had to make adjustments of how we interacted with him and how we allowed him to behave, but Sarah was with us every step of the way, giving us advice over the phone and closely monitoring his behaviour when he was back home. We were supported at all times .
The change in our dog’s behaviour is remarkable. He is no longer reactive, doesn’t bark or lunge at passing wheels - he spends his walks focussed on us and seems genuinely happy to be out and about. We can take him out confidently to public parks and are even able to let him off lead when we want to.The e-collar allows us to communicate with him and remind him of what is expected - it’s a really usefultool and simple to handle, and really effective.
With Sarahs support, our whole approach to handling our dog has changed and as a result he is calmer, more confident and trainable, and we arehappier and have bonded as a family unit.We now understand that training is an ongoing process that we are all committed to and enjoy, and it feels like we have fallen in love with our dog again.Sarah is always happy to help whenever we have questions and I know she genuinely cares about our dog’s wellbeing. We are incredibly grateful to Sarah and are so glad we found her - she really is an amazing dog trainer and special person!

Sarah is the best that could happen to us! Since day 1 after the consultation things started improving exponentially. Her wide level of knowledge goes beyond anything. Her support in between sessions makes our life (and Milo’s) so much easier and enjoyable. Sarah’s approach is easy to follow and with great results. Thanks to her we are feel confident training our puppy and all the initial stress is fading away. What I like the most of Sarah is her passion in what she does. I would rate her million stars!! Sarah is a next level dog trainer and all round local legend, I can't recommend her highly enough.

Our dog absolutely adores her, and i'm sure if he could, he would also be leaving her a 5 star review.

I can't praise Sarah enough. She is brilliant at understanding dogs, with the added bonus of totally getting the humans too. She's worked with two of my dogs, one a whippet i had from puppy and one a greyhound foster rescue - both with great results. We needed pretty fast help with our greyhound and she didn't fail, counter surfing is typical behaviour and she helped us stop it in one session. Plus all the more enduring training she helped us with has resulted in two awesome, well behaved (mostly!) dogs, that listen. Not only that. But she sees when I am anxious and helps diffuse that from the training. We are lucky to know her, she's my dogs and my favourite teacher. If you have anything you are concerned about or want help with, talk to Sarah, she will help you in a personal and tailored way. More...

Laura, thank you so much for your kind words. You know how much I love your Whippet boy who turned out so, so great without many of the issues sighthound owners complain of. It is your dedication to your dogs' training that has resulted in a swift adoption of your foster and I am so humbled that I got to play a part in her training and getting her ready for her forever home. All the wins ;-)

Sarah is just brilliant. I trust her entirely and she's helped with so many issues that we've had with our very clever but very cheeky pup! Sarah has helped with basic things like walking on the lead, not jumping up and recall as well as things that have been doing our heads in for ages (barking at any animal on TV!). She is very professional and thorough and we just think she's brill! Highly recommend. More...

I am glad that you can now enjoy Tiger King in peace and quiet. ;-) Really goes to show that you don't have to suffer these behaviours especially if you think that it took us less than 20 minutes to help him understand that we really don't want him to do that. He really is a very clever boy so he will keep you on your toes. But you are absolutely capable of always being that step ahead of him!

Sarah really supported us with behavioural training for our dog. During the session she guided us through some easy-to-follow steps including techniques that allowed us to stop our dog barking at the front door and rushing up to greet people as they were at the door. She now waits until invited to greet people.

We saw how quickly our dog picked up the new skills and Sarah helped us tweak things as the weeks went on.

Sarah’s passion for her work, along with her knowledge on the subject really helped us create an easy plan for our dog. I would recommend her for any training or coaching

Sarah is a fantastic walker and brilliant coach. She has helped us understand our dog on a whole new level. Rudi had issues with busy traffic, which Sarah helped her overcome almost straight away. Rudi has learnt new skills and commands, and Sarah has also coached us in how to train our dog and communicate with her. I would recommend Sarah to anyone who wants help with behaviour or who wants to expand on training. She is a walker who makes every outing fun and engaging and a knowledgable coach who is patient and hardworking. More...

Q&As

Seeing both the owner and dog grow in confidence as they learn to better communicate and start to understand each other.

My love for dogs more than anything. It is a very long story and even though I have wanted to work with animals all my life, it has taken me until my thirties to finally allow myself to follow that dream. It was the best decision of my life!

Being a human personal transformation coach and a dog trainer, I have an empathic understanding of the needs, concerns, issues and misunderstandings that can affect your relationship with your dog or puppy. I take my subject seriously, and I’m passionate about the importance of structured training to promote good health, safety and wellbeing for dogs and owners everywhere.

My goal is to create easy-to-follow structures that put the fun back into dog ownership, so you and your dog can enjoy the best possible life together. I want to free dogs and dog owners from the stress that can build up when dogs are confused about how to navigate human society, that can make them appear ill mannered, unpredictable or untrustworthy.

If necessary, I can provide my services online via video call in some cases. During an initial phone conversation we can discuss how and if this will be possible in your individual situation.

Testing myself daily, I also ask customers to take a self-test prior to our appointment. I can provide a test if needed.
