Chef Manuel is a culinary genius. His food is inventive and delicious. The papaya chicken curry salad was so tasty and different from other restaurants around here. The pear and Brie salad with shrimp added was such a refreshing and scrumptious taste, I wanted more. We ended our night with the bread pudding and it was decadent and heavenly. We just moved to the neighborhood and what can we say?! What a delight. From the ambiance and atmosphere, to the service, to the food! My girlfriend and I came here because we had heard of a place, a secret gem in Laguna Niguel, and we wanted to experience this restaurant. We had a waiter, Israel, who was the epitome of an attentive and helpful server. Ask for him next time you go! You won't be disappointed. We both ordered the Brie and Pear salad with shrimp, Chicken Curry Papaya Salad, and calamari as an appetizer. We ended up sharing each plate, and the dishes were so flavorful, creative, and absolutely delicious. We told Israel to give our compliments to the chef and Chef Manuel came out to personally greet us. He really took pride is his restaurant and it was evident that this place earned the title as a secret gem. This is my 2nd review of Legado. Â Why? Â Well I've eaten here about a handful of times now and I have to say I have yet to experience a meal that wasn't a strong 4. 5 to 5. Â First of all, I cook. Â And I am good, very good. Â So when I go out to eat, I'm paying good money and 9 times out of 10 I'm a better cook than the restaurant (example: Two Left Forks in Dana Point) and that frustrates me. Â So in my previous review I talked about how good the halibut was and this time we took friends with us to see if maybe it's just our bias. Â I wanted to try something different but since the halibut was the Chefs Special and I knew it wasn't going to be there when I come back next week, it was my choice again. Â Our friend who is the fussiest fish eater I know ordered the halibut as well. Â Our other friend ordered Baby Back Ribs. Â Once again this place hit it out of the park. Â On a scale of 1 to 5 the food was a 6 or 7. The fact that the halibut was just as good the 2nd time shows consistency. Â Our friend says it was the best halibut she has had in her life and I agree. Â Our other friend left a plate of bones without a hint there was ever meat on them and said, "I'm coming back here again." Â Bottom line: Â Legado Bar + Kitchen is a damned good place to get a meal that you can be sure is better than most any other place in the area, at a price that is reasonable. Â If you prefer to spend your money on the decorations at some fancy place by the water, or if you're going out to be a part of "the scene" and you don't mind if your food is just ok, by all means go where you want to go. Â But if you want a very nice, but casual, friendly place and REALLY GOOD FOOD, do yourself a favor, keep some of that fancy money in your wallet and go to Legado. More...

Fun, casual environment with live music. Quality food that is well priced. The layout of the restaurant makes it difficult for the restaurant to maintain its vibe. Upfront, where the bar is, feels a bit more upscale, but as you go towards the back where the tables are, it looses its charm. Great service! Interesting brunch menu with WAY more than your standard mimosa offerings. The watermelon mimosa was very refreshing. We also tried grapefruit and pomegranate. A nice place tucked away in a shopping center. The decor is pleasant and inviting. Ample bar area in the front and a very nice seating in the back away from the bar noise (it wasn't noisy, really). It was my birthday and we decided to go to Legado because we have had previous good experiences. I have food allergies and they had to remake my meal because they made it wrong. Then, it came out wrong again. I had ordered a cobb salad which should not be so difficult to make. I also ordered the shrimp as an additional protein and it was so overcooked that I couldn't cut it with a knife. Unfortunately, my dining companions were almost done, so, I made due. It wasn't wonderful. But, my other three dining companions loved their meals that were ordered as-is off the menu (rack of lamb; sauteed vegetable salad and seafood risotto). In the reservation, they ask if we were celebrating any special occasions and I revealed that it was my birthday, but there was no recognition that we were celebrating any occasion. Been here several times and food and atmosphere always nice! Yes it's low key and in a shopping center but if you want a nice dinner with exceptional quality especially with a group, I'd give this a try. They have live music but what's really nice that you can have a conversation with friends and not be drowned out. Chef does special awesome preparations every week and always something different along with the usual menu items which are also very good! Don't go for the dinner salads...they are just ok.
