.Before the advent of the Internet, online dieting didn't exist. If you wanted to shed some pounds, you would
have to go to the library to check out a diet book, join a local dieting class, clip an ad out of a magazine or
order a diet plan through mail order. Television ads were also means of getting exposed to many weight loss
programs offered or recommended by the popular actors and stars of the time. Not that these means were
ineffective, it was just slow and cumbersome to get started. It was also a very time-consuming effort to
examine and compare weight loss programs. Most peoplejust joined a plan they heard about from a friend or
a neighbor. Most often failure was the result.
