Justin Shockley is a distinctly talented and exceptionally generous photographer. He was an enthusiastically willing resource when I sought him out for head-shot photos in my NYC art studio. His process is thorough, engaged with a friendly and inventive focus appropriate to the context. I was as satisfied with the results as I have been impressed with his portfolio prior and since then. He was a pleasure to work with and I'd recommend him to any client seeking a creative professional photographer. More...

I used Justin's photographs for my website, a fundraising consulting practice focused on urban nonprofits. He has a way of capturing a moment before it disappears, and showing people at their best, which appealed to the way I wanted my clients to see my practice. I have also seen his work related to events, and I think he gets great candid shots in party crowds. More...

What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
I don't know if there is a secret but I think time plus skill equals good art. For me it took me many years to call myself a professional but even before that I was immersed in art since the age of 5. Everything from music to the general culture of art. I think it starts in the heart then over time if you want to develop that passion you need to practice so you gain a good skill.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
I try to figure out the best possible outcome for the project.; something like a core desire. Usually the client is most satisfied when you achieve that.
What do you love most about your job?
I love everything about it. I think its amazing that I'm blessed to be able to do what I love everyday. It really seems surreal sometimes.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I never initially intended to do it as a business. I was just pursuing my passion.
Why should our clients choose you?
Because I care about people. I think its hard to serve clients if you don't care about people regardless of how talented one is.
