About Jo's Mutts with Manners
Jo's Mutts with Manners is focused on providing a high quality dog training service using reward based training methods. I travel to you in Poole, Broadstone, Corfe Mullen, Creekmoor, Merley, Wimborne, Ferndown, Colehill, Dorchester, Wareham, Blandford and their surrounding areas.
I aim to help your dog become a polite member of your family. I also offer puppy training from 8 weeks of age to give advice and guidance to help your new member of the family have the best start in its new home.
I will do everything I can to meet your expectations, with a variety of services to choose from, I am sure you'll be happy working with me.
I will come and work with your puppy from 8 weeks of age. At this stage I offer advice on house training, getting used to the collar and lead, walking on lead, basic sit and stay, how to build your relationship through play, accepting being groomed, basic recall and what to do if they are frightened by something. All this is done in your house and garden until your puppy has had all its injections. I can also offer advice on training with the whistle, using a clicker, puppy and children and anything else you want to know.
Once your puppy is ready to go out, I continue to look at the above but in different environments while out on their walk. I also look at socialising politely with dogs and people, impulse control, leave it command, longer stays, down, basic retrieve, and recall, building to being off lead.
1 - 1 Training
I will come to your house to discuss and assess your needs. This can involve working in your house or going out on walks.
I offer a variety of services from basic obedience to more advanced exercises. I can cover walking on the lead, passing everyday distractions without getting over excited and lunging, calm greeting of dogs and people, and recall. I can also look at teaching how to retrieve and find objects, tricks, fun games that involve your dog having to think, so helping your dog be mentally as well as physically tired. I can also help with dogs that are overexcited, or constantly demand attention and find it hard to settle, or those that don't like travelling in the car.
I also help with how to train more than one dog in multi dog households.
Jo's Mutts with Manners Q&A
What do you love most about your job?
I enjoy helping clients learn to get the best from their pets and to see them develop their confidence to carry out the training.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Having worked part time for a local dog trainer and behaviourist for 6 years while working full time as a secondary school teacher, I decided to give up teaching and start my own dog training business 3 years ago.
Why should our clients choose you?
Having had a background in teaching I understand how to make people feel at ease and how to make clients feel confident in their own ability to practice the techniques taught in the sessions. I am passionate about dogs and how to make them polite members of our family through reward based training. I enjoy solving the problems clients are having and seeing the partnership between the dog and their owners develop and flourish.
