I have just finished studying the Professional Musicianship course at BIMM Manchester. I can’t recommend BIMM enough, my experience was excellent thanks to the staff and tutors. BIMM say their tutors all are experienced industry professionals and this is very, very true! I have learnt from their experiences and they have helped me to grow as a person and musician. Having tutors who were amazing at their craft and knew what they were doing really helped inspire me.The student support staff at BIMM are lovely and beyond helpful, they always go out of their way to help you even if they need to do research in order to help. This applies to the academic staff and the careers team, I have always felt comfortable asking them for help and whilst at BIMM have never felt lonely or lost.As cheesy as it sounds, I truly believe that you get out what you put in. So if you hide away, you might not get as many opportunity or meet as many people as if you put your self out there. This shouldn’t be confused with BIMM not doing their job, this is really down to the individual. More...

Although it has it's flaws (doesn't everything) Bimm is not as bad as some reviews make it out to be. Sure you can get some arrogant or flashy students but you don't need to fall in with them to have a good learning experience. You'll find that if you network and ask around that you'll eventually meet people who you like and are into your type of music. The other good thing about Bimm is that although people complain at times about lack of free will for people on the Musicianship courses it actually let's you do quite a lot considering. The tutors are all experienced in the industry and have valuable stories to tell, and not just life stories that waste time but stories that keep you entertained and teach you something. Sure they can sometimes come off as arrogant as the students but a lot of them have had very successful careers in the industry and most I would say really do enjoy sharing their experience. The rooms in the old building can be small but with the extension of the Bank Chambers it has opened up more to the students (although it took it's time getting here) and now it isn't as hard if you have say 9 or 10 people doing stuff for a jazz ensemble.A down side I would say is the online booking systems and the lack of a way around them that many students complain about and Bimm seem to not acknowledge as being a problem. There are other things, such as sometimes it can be seen that Bimm cares more about promoting themselves than actually helping students with their bands but not in all instances, with a tutorial system that gives you a one on one with any tutor they can provide you with helpful info.Anyway Bimm for it's few flaws has massive positives and should not be overlooked when your considering studying a BTEC or a BA.
