Commercial & Corporate Photographers

It was an absolute pleasure working with Steven. He is a very skilled photographer and was meticulous about getting the shots exactly as I wanted them. Although he is the expert he included me in the entire process and made it feel more like a collaboration. I will definitely work again with Steve on future projects and highly recommend him. Q&As

1. Clear communication.
2. Experience + skill + talent.
3. Gorgeous lighting - the right tools.

COMMUNICATION
In 15 years of earning my living with professional photography the only times a job has gone sideways is when one or both or all parties *assume* key aspects of the job without expressing them. It is not possible to overcommunicate what is expected and what will be delivered.

This is why I always request my clients send me examples of the kind of photos they are looking for. The examples can be from my portfolio, from a google image search, from a stock agency. It doesn't matter. What matters is communicating what is expected.

I will always be honest with clients about my ability to deliver their expectations. Where I have the experience and skill and talent to deliver their expectations I will say so. And where my client's expectations are beyond my current abilities I will say so.

EXPERIENCE + SKILL + TALENT
Talent - we are born with it or not. Skill is acquired slowly over years as we push ourselves to new and more challenging areas of photography. Experience is the accumulated lessons of all that skill acquisition over years.

THE RIGHT TOOLS - GORGEOUS LIGHTING
While a great photographer can make a good photo using a shoebox (literally), consistently great photos require everything mentioned above combined with the right tools, the right lighting, the right lenses, the right assistants.

Emotion > Lighting > Lens > Camera Body

The most crucial element of great portrait photography is emotion and feeling, "the moment". It is the job of the photographer to get clients comfortable enough in front of the camera to let those feelings out.

The next most important element of great photography is great lighting. It can be the light that is available and the photographer just has to find it, see it, use it the best way possible. If it is not available then the photographer has to create it with his own lights. I'm always looking for great available light, and I always bring my own.

Lens and camera body are important but pale in comparison to everything before it.

Please send me sample photos of what you expect from our collaboration. The photos can be from my portfolio or from a google image search or from a stock agency. It doesn't matter. I will tell you if I have or don't have the skills & tools & temperament to create photos like the ones you've sent me.

You can describe what you want in words, but a picture is worth a thousand words, so send photos.

The freedom, the challenge, the constant requirement to push myself and to always be learning. I love that after 15 years I am still completely engaged and fascinated and challenged.

After selling an Internet email company in the 90s I had a little money that let me do what I wanted for a while. I'd always tinkered with photography. So I decided to get serious and I began seeking mentors to teach me. I've since studied with legends like Joe McNally, Jerry Ghionis, Jeff Newsom, Denis Reggie and many others.

This is my profession, the way I provide for my wife and four boys. I take your photography very seriously. I am very experienced. I strive for excellent communication. I have tons of raves from former wedding & elopement clients (if you google "wedding wire steven joseph photography" you'll see my nearly 50 5-star ratings). I have tremendous fun with my couples and elopement clients. I'm pretty cool and relaxed for an old guy LOL.
