About

Goosetown came up on the rough side of Denver, Colfax at Adams, in the 1990's. We are blood brothers and sisters with some of the baddest back-alley and Borough bars in the world. Nearly every local band to make good and push on through has played across Colfax at the Bluebird Theater.

So I like barbecue and this place has barbecue, specifically, they have burnt ends, and it is really good. Been here twice, almost tried the smoked wings, but man, did I mention the burnt ends? KC style, so good. Also, across the street from the Bluebird, so great location. Nice selection of gin and whiskey, average beer selection which includes some great local selections like Ratio and DBC. Outdoor seating, sometimes they have live music. Staff are chill, polite, they even explained the barbecue sauce options without me even asking. They have multiple types of gravy if you are into that sort of thing. Anywho, if you like BBQ go here. Probably not a good choice for vegetarians or vegans. More...

Alternative little dive off Colfax. Mostly for meat lovers but to my delight they had BBQ tofu. I ordered their kale and avocado salad with the tofu and it was very fresh and a great portion size. My husband ordered the burnt ends with collard greens. He enjoyed it. We ordered our daughter the basic burger on gluten free bread. They missed the spot here. Toast was torched on the inside and the burger was chard a bit on the outside. Go for it I had a very unique martini made with kettle one grapefruit and rose and it was absolutely delicious and only 6.00 bucks! Our server was very attentive and friendly. Overall cool little spot if you like barbecue and are downtown. More...

Such a rad local hangout and small music venue for local and touring bands. Upscale dive, very down-to-earth and laid back crowd, where in truth everyone knows your name. Decent selection of drinks, there is also your standard pub food if you need. There is always an event going on here, bands, open mics, reggae night, karaoke nights, etc. Great location close to downtown. Lots of people stop here before and after heading to the Bluebird Theater across the street. Patio on the sidewalk in the summer. Don't go there if you're black, Latino, support equality or value good service. The doorman and some of the staff there are definitely rac ist. Went here for the first time tonight. The doorman/front of house let my girlfriend and I know that there would be a short wait to get a table. We sat at the bar for 30 minutes and watched him just give away a table to a couple who just walked in. When I confronted him about it he looked me straight in the eye and said that he forgot, and that it was his first time doing this. He then  used my name  in conversation without any reminder, making it very clear that he remembered who we were. Only giving 5 Stars so that my review doesn't get hidden. More...

Bought the door guy a shot of Jager which was on special and ordered a vodka cranberry and a Red Stripe before joining our friends outside. The patio was strange and narrow, and there were a lot of people sitting outside because it was the most lovely night of the year. Great prices on beer, pool tables and skee-ball.  It's nice to have a place like this along Colfax.  It's a great place to either begin or end your evening, and if you're going to a show at the Bluebird, it doesn't get any more convenient. That said, if it's a night where a show's going on at the Bluebird, expect to park some blocks away, and the look at the signs carefully... some of the streets are restricted to Congress Park residents 24/7, and the Denver parking enforcement are all over it like yellow on a school bus.One more thing.  That skee-ball machine flips out a lot.  One time I had my best game ever and loser buys beer was on the line. I've always enjoyed day drinking at Goosetown Tavern. It's the perfect place to play hooky and spend the day. The décor is totally strange and perfect for the spot on Colfax. It's actually larger than it seems from the outside so no harm in bringing in a group of peeps for some boozin'.The food menu is...interesting. Can't say I usually think of this place when I want a good meal but when the drinks are flowing and some solid nourishment is needed this place will do the trick. Generally, I just stick to the day drinking tho.More times than none it's a laid back crowd who will just go about their business. Then again, I only come here in the day so maybe the crazies aren't out and about yet. I find the staff to be really cool most of the time. Nothing too wild or crazy - but every now and then some of the gal bartenders are just off their rockers. Let's just say I've seen a few rip into co-workers in front of customers. Hmm. Still, it's always an entertaining experience. There is a really good selection of drinks and drink specials at this place. Really, isn't that all that a tavern needs? This is a great place to go before a show at Bluebird theater. The food was good and there was a wide variety of Colorado beers on draft. I personally liked the Agave Wheat which just so happened to be the beer of the day and cost me $3 for a pint! I don't hate it! My brother and I had the chicken and waffles which he claimed were the "best he has ever had" which I can't quite argue against. It had a sausage gravy which added an extra delicious touch in this token sweet and savory combo. Overall the reason I am not giving this place a 5-star is because the service was slow at the start and the plates are slightly pricier than they should be ($11 for the chicken and waffles?) I'll be back for sure! Apparently the bands that play at Bluebird frequent this place before the show? Yet another reason to go! More...

Bar crawling down Colfax can be a lot of fun.  Enter bar #3, Goosetown Tavern.  The guy at the door, Seth is a very nice guy checking ID's and with a welcoming smile.  Bartenders are very nice and chatty, some great looking eye candy for both of the genders to behold.  Back to the bar, a couple great late night HH specials.  I was enjoying a draft beer, one of my drinking companions was enjoying the PBR and shot of Jameson for $6 special.  Not a bad a deal if I say so myself.  The highlight besides the wonderful ambiance was the food.  I know you're doubting me right now, the food at the bar - YES - the food was delicious.  On the recommendation of Seth we decided on the Chicken Artichoke Dip Sandwich with a side of pasta salad and the Open Faced Tuna Melt Sandwich with tots.  The Chicken sandwich was succulent sliced chicken on ciabatta topped with warm Artichoke dip.  Best drinking sandwich I would possibly think of - it should be wrong to eat something so heavenly.  The Tuna Melt was okay, nothing to write home about and I definitely wouldn't order it again knowing I could have the Chicken Sandwich again.  Another surprise was the pasta salad - an excellent pasta salad.  One of the best bars on Colfax with delectable food! We don't come here often, but when we do I always wish it were closer. With all the super trendy and/or super hipster vibes throughout Denver, it's nice to go to a traditional sorta dirty bar, but clean enough I don't want to run. The bartender was a grungy guy who was just friendly enough to make me comfortable while still being cool rather then bitchy.Went for lunch today with a friend and it was exactly what I was looking for in atmosphere. Pretty quiet and laid back. I was craving soup and/or green chile and know their green chile is pretty good so I got a Club with a cup. This one has a pretty decent spice though today's was a little milder then usual. Colorado is not known for it's major spice so I always gravitate to the places that just go for it. While it's been awhile since I've had a club, this one is one of the better ones I've had. Bread was toasty but soft; Bacon was crispy; Mayonnaise was was just think enough to give moisture and coolness, but not make everything soggy. I've never been here and always had decent service. I'm not someone who needs a lot of attention; I just need my drinks. What we've eaten here has always been good. I guess this might should be a 3 star, but they get an extra star for not following the hipster trend and just giving us a good neighborhood spot. More...
