Absolute worst insurance company ever. I am a 48 year old man, and have had insurance since I was 15. I have never had more than a copay to see a doctor, and then the doctors office contacts insurance and all is settled-not with GBG. I emailed them about having strong pain in my left chest, arm and shoulder, and was going to head to South Africa to get treated. Prior to leaving, i asked them to send me hospitals in their network, which they did. I picked the hospital closest to my hotel, the secretary even said they work with GBG and all i had to do was to get GBG to authorize the visit and all would be handled.Well, I emailed GBG and didn't hear back from them for 2 days. Contacted my representative, and it went online this for two weeks, GBG was claiming my emails weren't going through, when all they had to do, was reply back instead of doing a new email. They asked me to give them an alternate email, which i did, same result. I wasted 2 weeks in Joburg, with no accomplishment. GBG told me my issue wasnt covered even though we are supposed to have full coverage worldwide. GBG said I would have to pay out of pocket, then I would get reimbursed-the price for a CT scan and an MRI? 1000 US dollars. Correct, gbg wanted me to pay 1000 dollars out of pocket with full insurance! I flew to Tanzania and had it done there 600 dollars. I submitted the GBG online checklist copies of my receipts. GBG told me they needed to pe in PDF, so I converted them to PDF, and sent them in. Then GBG said I needed to send in the checklist again, even though I had already sent them in. This has been going on 2 weeks now. They say they can't see the receipts and all the info, even though you really can. I just emailed them and told them, to stop emailing me,that I will be getting a lawyer. They are a bunch of scammers-you have been warned! More...

This is one of one of the worst Insurance companies you will ever deal with. FRAUD/SCAM would be the right term to describe this company. Read reviews before buying any product from them.It was same as being un-insured rather than having an GBG policy . You will Only know when you file a claim. They will say everything is an pre-existing condition and will deny the claim. Forgot to mention that they take 1+ years to process the claim. Good luck. More...

Thankfully I haven't had to claim on my insurance but when I had to move countries mid policy, Expatriate were very helpful in making sure I was still covered by my policy, with no extra charges.

As an expat for the last 14yrs I have been insured with a number of very large insurance companies and they have all been horrendous to deal with when making a claim, (which is when you discover what they are really like),. ..Not Expatriate Healthcare, they are beyond fantastic to deal with, from the sales dept through to claims and everywhere in between, I would not hesitate to recommend them! After a health issue whilst on holiday in Belgium I contacted Expat Insurance to advise them of the situation. Following an initial complication with their call centre representative I contacted Deborah Falvey (claims manager), who straightened everything out and has been dealing with the claim ever since. She has kept me fully informed and made the whole process as smooth and stress free as possible. Today, 3 months after the initial incident, the hospital emailed me with more spurious invoices, I simply cc'd her into the email and she immediately stepped in the took control of the situation, putting my mind at rest once again. We will definitely be staying with expat insurance. More...

My second review after just signing up for the 3rd year with Expatriate Healthcare Insurance. I made a rather quick dash from Indonesia to Malaysia due to multiple and seemingly unrelated pain, not an emergency. .. In doing so I quickly dashed off a late note to Karen Goldstraw and explained what I was doing. As usual, her kind and thorough follow up set my mind at ease and I went through all the tests without stress. This will be my first claim so I have no feedback on that service yet. However, I trust it will follow the same excellent service I experience each time I contact Karen with a question or problem. To be continued... More...

They simply decline every benefit with a long explanation that existing conditions are not covered when we purchased a policy that covers existing conditions. They pretty much take your money and provide nothing in return. I would not recommend them or rely on their coverage. More...

Brilliant!I recently renewed my travel insurance policy with this company for a third year. Changing from European to Worldwide for the second year was easy. When I had difficulties working out how to revert to European again this time the Live Chat option was very helpful.I had my first ever medical emergency on holiday in July and when I visited the hospital an administrator rang the Emergency Number for me. They were given a Letter of Guarantee and a case number, which meant I did not have to pay any fees directly. It couldn't have been easier and was very reassuring. A big bonus at what was a stressful time. More...

First I will say I only just signed up for my policy today so I have had no experience yet with making any claims with Expatriate Healthcare. But the assistance and communication I was given by Karen Goldstraw who signed me up for the policy was without a doubt 5 star. My situation is quite complex so i had a lot of unusual necessities for cover and had a lot of requests and questions. All my emails were answered promptly and clearly. It was very important to me that my family's health insurance came from a company where communication was of a high standard as I need to know that if I ever make any claims they will be dealt with efficiently. Their value for money is also a lot better than almost all the other insurance companies I made enquiries too. More...

Whilst living in Thailand I had pain in my left knee. MRI Scan showed damage to my Meniscus.I gave my details to the hospital who contacted Expatriate insurance to confirm that they would pay for the operation. It took around a week for confirmation to be giving but as it wasn't life threatening there was no major rush. I did have to pay for the MRI scan myself, but i theory i could have claimed it back as it led to treatment being needed, but to be honest i could not be bothered All in all they did what it said on the Tin so i can have no complaints. I recently renewed with them for a second time with no hassle, so i would recommend them so far. Hopefully i won't need them again. But if so i have confidence in their service. More...

So far this cover looks great and has been really easy to book with good service provided when I had questions. I actually got to quite an advanced stage with two other companies and was so frustrated by their dysfunctional websites, long winded forms and rude customer service that I moved on and found Expatriate Healthcare who have not missed a beat. I'm a bit surprised to be asked for an opinion before I take the trip that the cover is for but so far I cannot fault it and hope that continues if we have to make a claim for any reason. More...

I hunted around for some time to find a policy that made sense, gave decent coverage and didn't cost the earth. Also important were the positive reviews Expatriate already had compared to the major providers in the market. To date, I have no reservations and the service I received both by phone and online in setting up - and since renewing - the policy, was excellent. I have not had to make a claim (thankfully), so cannot comment on that side of the equation, hence the 4 rather than 5 star rating. More...

I haven't had a good experience with insurance companies. Fortunately I haven't had many claims either, but friends have, and it's easy to get the impression that some insurance companies will do anything they can to get out of paying. What a breath of fresh air Expatriate Group have been. Not just when setting up the policy, when everyone was polite, friendly and helpful. Many companies achieve that, when they want your business. But then in my very first year of an annual travel policy, the unexpected happened. I thought I was fit and healthy and least likely to claim. But out of the blue, the retina in my eye became detached. I've found that this can happen for no apparent reason - it can happen to anyone. If you don't get medical attention fast, you can lose the sight of your eye permanently. It was an emergency. I had to pay out, in all, nearly 4800 euros for all the treatment and medication.Expatriate Group paid out the claim in full, without quibble, fast. They agreed it within days, and when they'd agreed it they paid it into my bank within hours. All for my measly 130 euro premium - sorry, Expatriate Group, I've left you running at a fair old loss there! I would have to say based on my own (slightly jaundiced) experience in the past this is the best insurance company I have had any kind of policy with and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend their travel insurance.
