They repaired a monitor speaker for me. It was quite expensive but my speaker is fixed now and will probably last another decade so well worth it. It took longer than I'd expected at almost 2 weeks, but they are fairly busy here so dont expect a turn around of a couple of days and if they tell you 1 week, dont be surprised if it takes a little longer. Experts in their field I must say. The chap who repaired my speaker gave me a free Neutrik stereo XLR to mini jack and advised me on how to get the best quality sound from my speakers which was really nice of him. Those cables probably cost that which I'd paid above the labour charge for the repair.There is no shop frontage as they're based on the first floor so it's easy to miss but keep an eye out for their sandwich board and signage. This shop is up a staircase to a cramped space stuffed with electronics for repair.....don’t be put off by the dodgy looking appearance of Galaxy Repairs and Spares. Excellent service and first class, prompt, communication by email and 'phone. When I needed someone to repair my Sony Walkman Pro, Galaxy Repairs and Spares were one of only 2 companies of the many I contacted I contacted who took the trouble to respond to my enquiry, and the only one I trusted to carry out the work because of their previous experience with these machines. When a repair wasn't possible, they sourced a replacement unit, in fantastic condition, and got it posted back to me within a week of my original enquiry. These guys are wizards. Took a 1970s tape/vinyl/radio sound system to them & they fixed it in two days. The communication was excellent & they are very friendly & knowledgeable. When we went to pick it up, as we came up the stairs, we heard music - it was coming from our now fully functional sound system, which they had set up so we could hear it before taking it home. I was curious how Tottenham Court Road was since the 80's when it was full of electronics shops. Few remain now but Galaxy is a treasure trove and up the stairs you can see the guys working on retro kit and repairing it. I took a treasured walkman I had when on the oil rigs in Dubai thinking it was irreparable ... but they repaired it and the communication was great. I love places like this and hope they survive. Tried to install new ram to my old laptop and (clumsily) broke the power connector to the motherboard. Took the laptop to "We Computing" on Goodge Street because of their good Google reviews. The Laptop was still disassembled and I pointed to the bit that needed fixing/soldering - they required a £25 "diagnostic fee" and would then give me a quote - when pushed they said the minimum would be £79 if only soldering was required (so £104 minimum). Way too much for an old computer and I was not happy to pay £25 for "diagnosis" when the problem was obvious.I therefore left and stumbled upon Galaxy Repairs with their "No fix No fee" sign. Happily they fixed my laptop that afternoon - sorted out the RAM and charged me 40 quid. Bearing in mind it was a fiddly job and they did it at once I was more than happy. Yes I was asked to put this review up but it is a valid assessment of galaxy repairs and spares I have been visiting Tottenham Court road for the last 15 years when I needed things repaired. There are repair shops that come and go but this one has always been there and I have always found that they have managed to help me to sort out my problems at a reasonable price. Sometimes they have taken time as parts for my equipment haven't necessarily been readily available. I look for someone who is going to be there and not a fly by night. I know that if something goes wrong I can always take it back to them and they will sort it out don't know what happened to the last review it must've been a bad day I think. More...
