Portable appliance testing (PAT) is the term used to describe the examination of electrical appliances and equipment to ensure they are safe to use. Most electrical safety defects can be found by visual examination but some types of defect can only be found by testing . However, it is essential to understand that visual examination is an essential part of the process because some types of electrical safety defect can't be detected by testing alone.
A relatively brief user check (based upon simple training and perhaps assisted by the use of a brief checklist) can be a very useful part of any electrical maintenance regime. However, more formal visual inspection and testing by a competent person may also be required at appropriate intervals, depending upon the type of equipment and the environment in which it is used

​I offer this service and will discuss with you to determine how often your appliances are checked formally (it varies based on your workplace and what the item is) and test everything to a professional standard using modern testers. I am a competent person as described above and will supply your business with an appliance register and also a test certificate (these are sometimes needed by insurers)

I can also offer add on services in the form of microwave leakage testing, socket checks and plug and fuse replacements.
Microwaves, believe it or not, can deteriorate with use and the seal that keeps the microwaves inside can start to fail. I can check your microwave to make sure that no harmful leakage is present. I can also run tests to ensure that the output power that is advertised is still correct and advise if you may need to replace it.
On top of this I can check your power sockets (for FREE if your PAT testing comes to more than £50) to see if they are correctly wired and not a danger to anyone.
Finally, one of the common causes of PAT test failure is a damaged plug or damage or incorrect fuse. For a very small fee (see PRICES page) I can check and replace these items with brand new high quality products.
