We have lived in Wimbledon since 2004. Before this my wife a I lived in Tooting. I am half Indian and have lived and traveled all over the world and am very fussy about Indian food. If it isn’t as good as I cook at home I am not going to eat it. Tooting has a few gems but often chefs use too much oil, pre-ground spices or a few pre-made sauces for everything. We were so happy to find Sai back when it first opened and have come ever since. It is one of the few Indian restaurants I can take my mum where she doesn’t complain about the oil, colouring or added sugar. The owner prides themselves on only using fresh whole spices. You just need to look at the Pilau rice to understand this. Over the years the decor has changed but the ethos is the same. I especially like the new specials board which is introducing the owners Kenyan origins. Even my wife has agreed on occasion to move away for her chilli paneer, butter chicken and sag paneer combo. For starters you can’t go wrong with the chilli paneer and the lamb chops. Yes the place can get crazy busy and the staff under the watchful eye of the long-standing maitre-d can be running around like crazy, but this is because it is the highest quality, freshest Indian food available anywhere. I hope they never leave. More...

Fantastic food and first class service. Everything was cooked freshly and they were able to alter recipes slightly to make less spicy.
I highly recommend this lovely restaurant.

The food was beautiful and tasted homemade. There was a very good selection of vegetarian dishes on the menu in addition to the meat dishes. It was just a little unfortunate that this evening the service was very slow. We didn't feel looked after; no one asked if we were happy with our food and we weren't offered the dessert menu. It took 40 minutes after our plates were taken away before we were acknowledged so we could ask for the bill. We would have given 5* if the service was better because the good was really great. Excellent food, and very friendly service. I asked for a recommendation and they called the manager to give me an explanation of the dishes and how they would fit my taste. Besides being delicious, the portions were quite generous, too. Definitely recommended! More...

Really nice food and very "real"'. Most Indian restaurants are effectively fusion. This is authentic, like my grandma used to make :) the decor could do with updating and the loos need to be refurbished, but otherwise highly recommended

Me and my girlfriend went here last night. We had a great time here and would definitely be going back to try more dishes off the menu. I have finally found a Indian restaurant in the area that tastes fresh and had great flavours, More...

I was last here in the July of 2017 and if I am being honest it was not then the best of meals I have had out I rated that occasion three stars.
This time round some one has pulled their socks up, I loved the meal from start to finish. Four stars
Service still a bit on the slow side on ordering otherwise an enjoyable visit
I hope to return where I can then give the five stars

Staff is so lovely and patient towards weird foreigners who don't get Londoners' proclivity for Indian currys... but now do!
