I've been taking 3 classes per week for almost a year. I am impressed with the skill of the instructors. Even when I am the only student to come to class they hold the class for me which truly impresses me. The classes are very important to me and I'm thrilled I found Body Balance. I train with my girl, Leslie, at this gym. She's a fantastic trainer, and the gym is super user friendly, and should you need assistance, there is always someone there willing to help. Not only are their free weights, machines and bosu balls, but resistance bands and kettle balls too! The owner is the nicest Gentleman you could ask for, and they are in the middle of getting some new equipment! I am so glad I switched gyms. I would definitely recommend checking them out and support a small business near the mall if you're looking for somewhere to sweat! More...

Jeff and the entire staff at Body Balance are phenomenal. They really care about the whole person, not just the physical workout. They are extremely knowledgeable about physiology, and will work around any areas of sensitivity or injury as needed. I'm so lucky I get to go to Body Balance. I've been working with my trainer, Damon, for more than two years. He has worked with me to improve my posture and increase strength and balance. He has helped me to overcome an injury that is 25 years old and prevented me from living a full life. I have more energy and am stronger than I've ever been. I'm 69 years old. I have been a member at Body Balance for nearly 19 years and have been involved with personal training the entire time. I mostly train exclusively with Jeff Spurgeon but have also worked out with most of the other trainers over the years. They all are professional and very experienced. I had let myself go. Gained a lot weight, stopped exercising, started eating poorly, and injured my back. I can give you all the reasons why this happened but it doesn’t matter. What does is that I made the decision to change. I lost some weight, started to exercise and then hit a frustrating wall. The group exercise classes I was taking could not give me the attention I needed and I reinjured myself. What I was doing was not working. I was feeling discouraged, mobility challenged and old. A friend suggested I talk to Damon Schaefer at Body Balance. The idea of having a personal trainer was completely foreign to me and very very intimidating but I had nothing to lose so I made the appointment. That was 5 years ago and it has been the best gift I have ever received. Next month I will be 62 and I am stronger, fitter, happier with my body and definitely healthier than I have been since my 20’s.There are no words to adequately describe my respect and appreciation for Damon Schaefer. He has kept me going despite having a bad ankle, broken wrist, torn hamstring attachment and at times a bad attitude. Pam Criswell, my go-to trainer when Damon is away is equally wonderful. Regardless of whom you work with, the staff at Body Balance are welcoming, attentive, very knowledgeable and supportive. Training at Body Balance has been a life changing experience for my husband and me. At 64 years of age I'm stronger than I've ever been. It's helped with my energy level as well. We've trained with both Pam and Jeff, currently with Pam. She makes the workouts fun but challenging. Pam is attentive to how we're feeling and adjusts workouts as needed to address any injuries, energy, and ability. She is fun, engaging, and encouraging. The trainers at Body Balance treat me as friend, not just a client. The atmosphere of the studio is relaxed and casual. The training is top notch. I have worked with three specific BB trainers over nine years. I am stronger now then I have ever been and any previous joint injuries have been corrected. Q&As

I meet them where they are, not where they want to be. I find that many people have an unhealthy emotional relationship with the gym. They may feel a level of intimidation or lack the confidence to move freely through they're exercises. Being and feeling safe is the most important emotional need that a human can feel! So, I like to find fun ways to break the ice and help my clients feel self confident and independent with their fitness experience.
Next, I will focus on the nutritional side. Not calories or numbers, but whether or not the person has a healthy emotional and physical connection with their food. I will ask whether they eat from the earth or a Laboratory. I will ask what time of day they eat, what their favorite snacks are, and their history with food.
After nutrition, I focus on the physical fitness side and develop a plan based upon the goals of the client. Whether the goal is athletic performance, flexibility, muscular growth/ endurance, losing body fat, increasing cardiovascular fitness, or they just want to have a great workout to set there day for success or, burn off the stresses of the day, I have a plan for you.

Having the body you want is not easy ( in the beginning). It takes self discipline, learning, and commitment. So the secret would be the mindset. Once the mindset is right, the rest is simple.
From there, we dial in the diet using natural foods, reducing processed and fast foods, and incorporating various dietary techniques such as, Intermittent fasting, Ketogenic diets, supplementation, and how/when you should eat around your workouts.

The feeling I get at the end of a session when a client says " that was exactly what I needed today" and walks away with a smile on their face.
The feeling I get after training a client for 3 months and seeing their growth in self confidence after losing 60lbs.
The feeling I get when I help others become the strongest versions of themselves.

I knew what my skills were and I knew I wanted to help others. I knew that fitness training was the way that I could express my skillset and help other people. But, in order for me to feel free to express my skills the best way I knew how, I knew I needed to start my own business.

Because of my dynamic approach to fitness. I put myself in the trainee's shoes, I have an ability to be able to relate to my clients and make the sessions fun and yet challenging. I always meet the client where they are , and help them progress to meet they're goals. Success= the progressive realization of your goals.

Services

I provide in home fitness training for those who would rather be in the comfort of their own home/ neighborhood. I often train clients in their living rooms, garages, calisthenics and jogging in their neighborhood, or use a nearby park. Clients who already have fitness equipment is a plus but not required.

I teach grappling to both children and adults at Impact Jiu Jitsu.

I teach corporate group classes, small group, and private classes.
My style is a medium paced Vinyasa flow. My class begins slow and builds to more dynamic postures. I use breathing to help relax the mind and help my clients into a calm, mindful space. All classes end with relaxing music and a long moment of silence.
